Why am I needed?
Community is at the heart of everything that we do at Tenovus Cancer Care to help those affected by cancer. Our aim is simple – to deliver a vision where fewer people get cancer and those that do receive equal access to excellent treatment. However, we can’t do this without your help. Our shops in local communities are crucial to us raising vital funds. So, we’d like you to volunteer your time and commitment to help us make a difference. We need you to help process our stock donations ready for the shop floor.
What will I be doing?
Accepting donations from the public
Sorting through donation bags
Hanging, ticketing and steaming stock
Cleaning and processing non-clothing stock
Maintaining high levels of stock room standards
Generating add-on sales and Gift Aid conversion through high levels of customer service
Completing Gift Aid shop paperwork
Promoting awareness of the charity and the services that we provide.
What skills do I need?
A really keen eye for detail
An interest in one of our product areas
Ability to work on your own initiative and as part of a team
Ability to communicate effectively with other members of the team and customers.
How much time do I need to commit?
We’d need you to give around three hours per week if you can with the possibility to do more if you’d like to. However, we appreciate any time you’d like to give; please let us know this on your application form.
What support will I be given?
Before starting with Tenovus Cancer Care, we ask that you visit the Shop Management team in the shop so we can both see how the role may suit you.
Following that the Shop Manager and team will be on hand to advise and help you select products you can use.

Who we are
At Dementia Concern, our primary goal is to empower those living with dementia, here in their local community. With fifty staff and a turnover of £1.1 million, we are exclusively for the people of Ealing, from Southall over to Acton. Their rich diversity is reflected in our staff and clients.
Established in 1982, almost forty years on we are still committed to our central strategic goal to provide amazing person-centred care and support for people living with dementia.
The role
We’re looking to recruit:
Up to 3x Trustees from diverse backgrounds with experience or skills in: Safeguarding, Quality of Healthcare, Law, Health & Safety, Fundraising, Cybersecurity, HR and EDI.
and
1x Chair of the Board
(Trustees do not need to live in London, once they are able to attend two board meetings in person per year, usually held on Wednesdays at 6pm)
Over the last five years of our forty year history, Dementia Concern has been on a mission to reach every person in Ealing living with dementia. We are over halfway there. This Board recruitment campaign is a chance for new Trustees to help us drive forward the charity’s strategy 2024-27 and help us deepen our impact.
A couple of our Trustees will be coming to the end of their second (three year) term on the Board, so we’re seeking to recruit additional trustees and our next chair; our former Chair served from 2020 to 2024 leading the charity skillfully, including through the uncertainties of community healthcare in a pandemic.

To express interest in these volunteer positions on the Board, we are not asking candidates for a formal application in the first instance. We are keenly aware that many good Trustee candidates are very busy people, so we are keeping it simple.

Then, for those invited to the final stage, and wishing to progress, there will be in person meetings at our building: 223 Windmill Road, Ealing, London W5 4DJ which are scheduled for Thursday 24th and Friday 25th October.
New Trustees will be invited to the in-person Board on 13th November at 6pm in Ealing, with some social time included in order to meet Trustees and the Exec.

What will you be doing?
You will join a Board of Trustees who support the organisation in their governance role, through strategic planning support and as ‘critical friends’ to the leadership team. Trustees are offered an opportunity to have a real and meaningful involvement in what the organisation does. Trustees will be asked to commit to:
- Endeavouring to be available for up to 7 meetings per year with a requirement to attend at least 50%.

If I join Shared Lives South West as a trustee what can I expect?
You will help enrich the lives of people we support by becoming a part of this friendly charity known for providing high-quality support to people as recognised by our recent “Outstanding” CQC award. You stand to also enrich your own life through the empowering and satisfying sector of volunteering as well as having access to training and development opportunities through SLSW. This is a voluntary post and would be offered subject to satisfactory references and DBS check. Voluntary, with travel and other reasonable expenses payable.
You will be joining an enthusiastic and committed team of trustees. Induction and training for the role will be provided. The appointment will run for three years and be subject to an annual review with the Chair of the Board. Two further terms of three years may be agreed upon. You will be required to sign a confidentiality agreement, declare any relevant business interests and complete an insolvency check as well as a charity-related parties register prior to your first Board meeting. You will be required to declare, on an ongoing basis, any further relevant business interests and/or conflicts of interest that may arise.

About Crisis
Crisis is the national charity for people experiencing homelessness. We believe everyone should have somewhere safe and warm to call home and are committed to ending homelessness. Every year we work side by side with thousands of people from all sections of our communities to help them rebuild their lives and leave homelessness behind for good.
How you will contribute to ending homelessness
The Housing First team at Crisis Skylight London provides intensive support to 40 clients who are multiply excluded and have experienced a long history of homelessness. You will be supporting the team and its clients with administrative tasks, including recording and analysing accurate data, identifying community services that clients can access, contacting clients to encourage involvement in the service and other general admin tasks.
Time Commitment: Minimum 8 hours per week during office hours, any day(s) Mon-Thurs.
Core tasks
- Identifying community services that coaches can access as part of client support and updating the team’s bank of resources
- Using internal data systems to record, track and communicate accurate client information and activities
- Supporting with document gathering/redaction for service evaluation and ensuring client data is accurate and up to date
- Promoting activities by maintaining effective communication with the team and members and preparing advertising materials
- Contacting members to encourage member involvement in development of the service, e.g., carrying out surveys by phone
- Assisting with printing, filing, photocopying, scanning, shredding and recycling and any other general administration that is required
Who we are looking for
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint, PowerPoint and Publisher) and the ability to use the internet
- Excellent organisational skills, reliable and able to prioritise tasks
- Able to work efficiently as part of a team and proactively using own initiative
- Friendly and polite with the confidence to interact with individuals from a diverse range of backgrounds including those with English as a second language
- Patient and non-judgmental approach to supporting clients
- Understands the importance of confidentiality and maintaining boundaries
- Able to commit to the role for a minimum of six months
- A strong desire to help end homelessness

About Kith & Kids
We provide activities, opportunities, information, and support for people with a learning disability or autism, their parents, and siblings.
For all our projects and activities we are dependent on volunteers.
Our Employability Project
10am to 3pm, Monday and/or Friday during term-time
Our Employment & Life Skills Project (ELSP) helps adults with learning disabilities or autism to access further education, work experience and visits to mainstream community opportunities.
What you’ll do
You’ll act as a mentor to the members of the group. You’ll be helping the group(s) develop a range of life skills, things that many of us take for granted. These include Maths and English skills, independent living, the use of public transport, social skills and even the sourcing of employment.
For the people in these groups, these things can be very difficult to develop and achieve without regular support. Through regular support and meetings, members and volunteers develop greater trust, skills, and confidence together.

Requirements
What you need
You do not need experience. Full disability awareness training will be provided before you begin volunteering with us.
The only requirements we ask of you are enthusiasm, energy and to be open-minded.
Minimum age for volunteers is 20.
How much time?
The project runs from 10am to 3pm, Mondays and/or Fridays during term-time.
Everyone gets the most out of the project if you come every week for at least a term as you'll build a close relationship with the members you'll have been supporting and will create the most impact.

Typical tasks the role could involve:
- Be the Welcoming Face: Collect tickets and entrance fees, welcome guests with a smile and help set the tone for an unforgettable event.
- Get Hands-On: Assist in setting up and taking down equipment and stalls.
- Be a Cheerleader: Join a cheer station and support our runners to the finish line •
- Guiding Star: Assist with marshalling duties, from directing car parking to guiding runners along their routes, ensuring the event runs smoothly and safely.
- Refreshment Hero: Serve refreshments to participants, supporters and staff, keeping everyone energised and ready for action.
- Information Sharer: Actively engage with members of the public and be the go-to person for those seeking information about Rainbows and our important work.
- Entertainment Champion: Run our raffles, tombola’s and other fundraising games engaging participants and members of the public.

What is the purpose of this role?
To support the Patients’ Representative by providing advocacy (both in person in a hospital setting as well as over the telephone) to older patients in Lings Bar Hospital (and their family/carers) and following their discharge home, as well as providing crucial administrative support to the service.
What impact does this role have?
Advocacy support and administration assistance will ensure the continued effective and efficient running of the Patients’ Representative Service. It ensures that we can reach and support as many patients and their families/carers as possible during their stay, as well as signposting and referring them on to services to help them remain as independent as possible on discharge.
What activities might you be involved in?
The following are examples of the type of support you could be asked to provide:
- Undertaking simple advocacy cases or aspects of cases, as identified by the Patients’ Representative.
- Meeting with patients and their families at the hospital to listen to their views and to support them to determine desired outcomes and act according to their wishes.
- Undertaking follow up telephone calls once people have been discharged from hospital for a period of up to 3 months.
- Supporting patients and families by signposting/referring onto other services.
- Documenting interventions and outcomes onto the charity’s client computerised database.
- Documenting interventions and outcomes onto the services Excel spreadsheet which will assist the Patients’ Representative to complete reports for commissioning purposes.
- Alerting the Patients’ Representative or Service Manager to any safeguarding concerns that may arise.
What are we looking for?
Someone who….
- Has a genuine interest in the wellbeing of older people.
· Is honest and reliable with a friendly personality.
· Has the ability to follow instructions and understands the importance of confidentiality.
· Has a good standard of literacy, numeracy, and computer skills (can use Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel for the purpose of data entry).
- Will work closely with the Patients’ Representative to ensure the best outcomes for patients and their families and be able to identify any issues or concerns that will need raising to the Patients’ Representative, demonstrating a willingness to seek advice and support where necessary.
- Can remain independent when advocating for patients and/or their family members whilst remaining professional to members of hospital staff.
- Can use their own initiative and volunteer unsupervised whilst at the same time being a valued member of the wider advocacy team.
· Will undertake training essential to the role.
- Will volunteer within the policies, procedures, and guidelines of Age UK Notts, including the Age UK Notts’ Volunteering Policy.
When would you be needed to volunteer?
Ideally, we would like a minimum of 2 days support a week, at times that meet your availability and our service requirements.
What training will you be given?
All volunteers receive an introduction to the charity as well as the necessary training you need to fulfil your volunteering role. In addition to this you will also receive ongoing support and access to further training opportunities as they arise, ensuring that your volunteering experience is a fulfilling and positive one.

Volunteering with Independent Choices, the domestic abuse helpline for Greater Manchester

We are looking to recruit female Helpline Volunteers to support callers on the Greater Manchester Domestic Abuse Helpline. The Men in Sheds Project: Is a project specifically for men aged 50+. It provides a well equipped workshop space where men can work together on a range of practical activities. We currently have ‘sheds’ in Blidworth and Worksop. The project aims to:
- encourage men to be more socially active
- give members an outlet for their skills and the opportunity to learn new skills
- provide a break amongst friends for older men who are carers
- give retired men the opportunity to make a valuable contribution to the local community
- provide access to information and other local services Members are encouraged to take ownership of their ’shed’.
What impact does this role have? This role helps combat social isolation for men over the age of 50.
What activities might you be involved in?
• To unlock the shed and get it ready for use, heating, check for unsafe items of machines etc.
• Supervising workshop sessions, alongside another volunteer.
• Collect or oversee the payment of subscriptions, ensure that members book in on the attendance register
• Assist members if needed with projects, lifting etc.
• Agree with members in advance on the price of projects that members make
• Take payment for items when finished, issue a receipt and record the sale
• Encourage work that could be done to members, orders, seasonal items etc.
• Meet and greet visitors, ensure they comply with all safety requirements and to sign in
• Meet and greet potential new members, show them around the shed and briefly describe the aims and function of the shed. Arrange a meeting with a shed leader for induction if interested. Ensure they comply with all safety requirements and to sign in
• (With one other Volunteer or member) Count and record subscriptions & tea fund at the end of the day and put away in the safe
• You will be supported by a staff member from the Men in Sheds Team
• To check that everything is switched off, the ‘Red Button’ is pressed and to lock up at the end of the day
• Reporting any concerns to the Shed leader
What are we looking for?

➢ Appreciation of the need to follow health and safety guidelines
o Ensure members follow the shed’s General Safety Rules

o Ensure members wear the correct PPE equipment as per the H&S notices,
o To wear PPE equipment yourself, if you don’t use PPE and injure yourself, you could be negligent, the shed will not accept any responsibility for your injury. This should also be pointed out to members
o Ensure there is no smoking in the shed, only in the outside designated smoking area
o Stop other members from carrying out unsafe practices or report it to a Shed Leader immediately
o Actively contribute to keeping the shed clean and tidy
➢ Expected levels of conduct include:
o Treat members and fellow volunteers in a friendly and supportive approachable manner
o Not use rude, offensive, threatening or abusive behaviour, language or gestures
o If anybody is deemed under the influence they will be asked to leave the shed and not to return until sober
o Report any incidents or breach of any of the above to the Shed Leader in confidence
o Report any complaints about the project / charity in line with Age UK Notts’ Compliments and Complaints procedure
➢ Be able to cover a session either weekly or to provide cover on an ‘as needed’ basis.
Ability to work sensitively and confidentially with men from a variety of backgrounds.
➢ Willingness to undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service check.
We are looking for volunteers who can regularly commit to at least one session per week.
- The Worksop Shed: Open Monday - Wednesday: 9am - 2pm and we are looking for volunteers on all days.
- The Blidworth Shed: Open Tuesday 9am - 2pm & Thursday 9am - 1pm and will soon be opening on a Wednesday (9am until 2pm), and we are looking for volunteers on a Wednesday and a Thursday.
Days to be agreed with the shed.
