Chance to Shine is an independent children’s charity. We change young people’s lives through cricket giving them the opportunity to play, learn and develop through the sport. Since 2005 our Chance to Shine Schools programme has helped reverse the decline of cricket in state schools with millions of boys and girls in over 13,000 state schools playing and learning through cricket. Chance to Shine Street supports young people in under-served communities to access and benefit from cricket in a free, inclusive, fun and fast-paced tape ball environment.

Purpose of the Role

A key part of Chance to Shine’s Communications department, this role will have help to drive awareness of the charity – communicating our mission, vision and messages to key audiences.

Principal Responsibilities

The Communications Officer will support include the following areas:

• To offer support on a range of diverse projects and events to increase the profile and awareness of Chance to Shine
• To help with the planning, execution and analysis of communications and marketing campaigns throughout the year
• To help manage the Chance to Shine brand internally and externally – including both written and visual brand guidelines
• Supporting the Director of Communications and Digital and the Fundraising team with the activation of corporate and funding partners
• Assisting with media liaison and monitoring including but not limited to:

Ø  Managing the media contacts database

Ø  Monitoring and organising media coverage

Ø  Pitching stories to local print, online and broadcast media

Ø  Managing relationships with designated media outlets

•  To lead the charity’s application process for internal and external awards

• To drive content and media activations with key partners such as the England  and Wales Cricket Board and the Chance to Shine delivery network
•  To help carry out any other tasks as required

Crisis is the national charity for people experiencing homelessness. In 2024 we embarked on our new 10-year strategy for ending homelessness. We know it is not inevitable. We know together we can end it.

About the role 

As Crisis’ Media Officer, you will play a key role in securing impactful media coverage that inspires the public and politicians to join our fight to end homelessness by raising awareness of our influencing campaigns and fundraising events. You will help to build Crisis’ profile by bringing to life our work, demonstrating how we end people’s homelessness for good through education, training and support with housing, employment, and health.

Your role will be creative and varied. You’ll work with our frontline staff to identify people facing homelessness who want to share their stories and empower them to do so. At Crisis we always champion the voices and experiences of the people who we support. You’ll help create bold and hard-hitting news stories to engage our audiences and bring to life some of our biggest organisational campaigns, like our annual Christmas appeal. You will also help make the most of reactive opportunities that come through to our press office and help build relationships with key journalists. 

About you 

You will have: 

• Experience of working within a busy press office environment/ PR agency or as a journalist. 

• Experience of supporting with or delivering impactful media campaigns or stories that have helped secure quality coverage in national and regional news outlets, as well as softer consumer features.

• Excellent writing skills, with the ability to craft engaging copy for a range of audiences, including political, consumer, tabloid, trade and everything in between. 

• Experience of working with case studies, identifying and preparing stories for the media and empowering people to share their experiences.

• Strong news sense, with a good working knowledge of the UK media, including digital media production, with experience of creating digital first coverage and amplifying campaign messages creatively in the digital sphere.

The Methodist Church in Britain is seeking a Ministry Development Officer (MDO) for ministerial and vocational flourishing to drive this critical work within the life of the Church.

The role is based within the Ministries: Vocations and Worship (MVW) team of the Connexional Team of the Methodist Church in Britain, which exists to equip the Methodist Church by training, developing and supporting those called by God to serve in lay and ordained ministry. The MDO will support the embedding of strategies which support the Church’s aspiration to be inclusive, justice seeking, evangelistic and growing.

Within the team, the MDO will be responsible for:

• Researching, developing, implementing and evaluating the impact of preventative strategies for ordained ministers’ flourishing and wellbeing.
• Developing wellbeing provisions in collaboration with others across the Connexion for lay volunteers and employees.
• Developing, implementing and delivering a vocations strategy to ensure that people’s rich diversity of gifts are valued, recognised and encouraged within the life of the Church, especially those traditionally under-represented and on the margins of the Church.
• Developing, implementing and delivering structured and planned vocational courses, programmes and discernment opportunities for those at various stages of their life, and faith, journeys.
• Developing the online presence (such as learning resources) of the M:VW team, especially in the areas related to vocational and ministerial flourishing.

You will also be able to forge partnerships as this role will require working and liaising with a variety of colleagues across the Connexional Team, and wider Connexion. The ability to reflect theologically and apply this to all aspects of the post is essential.

Employment Details

 

Contract type

This contracted post is fixed term until March 2025 with the possibility of extension and is 35 hours per week.  We welcome application for flexible working including reduced hours and other flexible working arrangements.

Location

The post holder will be mostly based across East London.

Salary 

Between £28,840 and £31,930 Plus 5% employer pension contribution.

We have recently introduced a salary bands system. This salary range refers to the lowest and top steps of the grade. Salary will progress every year until the top salary is reached.

 

Holiday entitlement

25 days (pro-rata for contracted hours) of paid holiday per year plus bank holidays. This increases after two years of service to 27 days, and then a further one day per every year of service up to a maximum of 30 days after five years of service. Sensory Services by Sight for Surrey is a county-wide charity supporting people of all ages who are Deaf, hard of hearing, blind, partially sighted, and deafblind. We have been supporting Surrey residents for over 100 years. Our main office base is in Fetcham, near Leatherhead, and our team of staff and volunteers work out in the community across the county.

The post holder will have excellent communication and organisational skills and be able to prioritise effectively and manage a busy and varied workload. This is an exciting opportunity to join a highly motivated and ambitious team, and to play an integral role in growing fundraising activity across Surrey.

Job Purpose:

The post holder must have a minimum of two years fundraising experience and use their initiative, personal presence and drive to support all fundraising activity to achieve a substantial increase in unrestricted income.

Principle Accountabilities:

· Research, identify, approach and secure new partnership opportunities

· Provide excellent account management to new and existing partners in order to meet key fundraising and engagement objectives

· Work collaboratively to generate income from partners through creative fundraising initiatives

· Represent the charity at local functions and give presentations when required

· Create engaging assets for applications and pitch presentations

· Support individuals and organisations fundraising for the charity

· Maintain accurate and up to date record keeping of written and oral communication with supporters.

· Ensure all fundraising income is entered onto the database in a timely manner

Work Context:

The post holder will be highly motivated and organised to research, identify and build new and existing relationships with local businesses and community organisations in order to increase unrestricted income and engagement for the charity.

Sensory Services by Sight for Surrey constantly needs to reassess its priorities in line with a changing funding environment and the needs identified by its members and service users. These factors are crucial to the charity’s survival and need careful attention. PERSON SPECIFICATION

The charity’s mission is to support students from disadvantaged backgrounds to access top universities, through a unique combination of tuition and in-school mentoring. The University Access Officer mentors GCSE students, delivering group workshops, mentoring and coaching them on how to access and transition to university. 

This is an exciting opportunity to foster mentoring relationships with students who will likely be encountering such support for the first time. This allows for early intervention, guiding the students to make decisions which will lead to successful and fulfilling choices at a top third university. The University Access Officer is in a position to open up a world of opportunities to the students which is extremely rewarding.

Key responsibilities include:

• Engaging with students in school and enrolling them onto the programme
• Matching students with volunteer tutors
• Monitoring student attendance to tutorials and devising innovative solutions to encourage attendance
• Assessing student progress towards being able to make successful university applications
• Uploading information onto the Salesforce database (training is provided)
• Building and managing relationships with volunteer tutors to ensure they have a positive experience of the programme

• Chairing and presenting at termly school meetings with Senior Management to report on programme progress.
• Supporting the delivery of tutor training and attend university site visits, approximately 3 times a year including occasional Saturdays and weekday evenings. Paid time off in lieu is provided.
