Volunteer Telephone Welcome Agent, can you help?
The Hospice Lottery Partnership runs a weekly lottery in support of local charities such as: Florence Nightingale Hospice Charity in Aylesbury, Michael Sobell Hospice Charity in Northwood, Rennie Grove Hospice Care in Buckinghamshire and West Hertfordshire, South Bucks Hospice in High Wycombe, and The Hospice of St Francis in Berkhamsted.
We are looking for someone that could spare a few hours a week at our office based in Tring to help welcome new players to the weekly lottery. The role involves thanking players for their support of our partner charities, checking their details are correct, and providing them with the opportunity to ask any questions. If you have a warm personality, would enjoy the company of a small and friendly team with copious supply of tea and biscuits, then we would love to hear from you!
What we're looking for:
An ability to represent The Hospice Lottery and our partner charities appropriately and enthusiastically.
A warm personality with the ability to engage with supporters on the phone.
Excellent communicator and people skills.
Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel is required.

My Name’5 Doddie Foundation was set up by late rugby legend Doddie Weir, who was diagnosed with Motor Neuron Disease (MND) in 2017. A devastating disease with no effective treatments and no cure, each of us have a lifetime risk of developing MND of 1:300. The condition takes the life of one third within a year of diagnosis and half within two years.
The Foundation has a single, clear vision: a world free of MND. Funding research lies at the heart of everything we do; it’s what allows world-leading experts to investigate potential drugs, expedite new treatments and, fundamentally, work towards finding a cure for this disease. In April 2023, we launched our ambitious new research strategy “Catalysing a Cure”, which outlines our continued commitment to our vision and to all the people affected by MND.
Trustees
We have an exciting voluntary opportunity to bring in new Trustees to join the board and we are keen to hear from candidates who can bring high level experience, skills and expertise to support the delivery of our ambitious plans.
As a Trustee, you will be taking on a highly valued and critical role at the Foundation, which will include setting and monitoring progress against our strategic vision; working with our Executive team; and acting as a high-level ambassador for our work.

What will you be doing?
Longfield provides a range of services to people living with life limiting conditions, terminal diagnoses or with a need for end of life care, alongside supporting their families, carers and loved ones. As a trustee you will play a crucial role in shaping our strategic direction, ensuring that our services remain responsive and effective. This includes,
- Ensuring we have a clear vision, mission and strategic direction and are focused on achieving them.
- Having clear oversight of organisational performance.
- Supporting the development of a healthy organisational culture.
- Ensuring all legal and regulatory compliance.
- Ensuring organisational governance is maintained to the highest possible standard.
Time commitment
The board meets every quarter, as do each of our committees. Meetings take place both online and face to face and last approx. 2 hours.
Time commitment is meeting attendance, time before meetings to read papers and occasional ad hoc discussions, strategy and planning sessions or events.
What are we looking for?
We are looking for people with experience of one or more of the following,
- Enterprise & business development: Entrepreneurial and innovative with business expertise and income generation experience. Insights into commercial activities such as repurposing facilities or partnering with other providers, to maximize the use of resources for long-term sustainability.
- Fundraising & Income Generation: Broad understanding of income generation, particularly in engaging major donors and corporate partners, with a strong focus on diversifying income streams for financial sustainability.
- Retail: Commercial or charity retail experience, with a genuine interest in sustainable practices.
- IT: Strategic guidance on maximizing effective use of IT, driving IT innovation and ensuring strong cybersecurity measures across the charity.
- Finance: Finance background with experience in managing or being part of a finance team.

Background of Cystic Fibrosis Trust
Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a condition affecting around 11,000 people in the UK and 70,000–100,000 worldwide. As a genetic disorder, individuals will have CF from birth and for the rest of their life.
Cystic Fibrosis Trust is the only UK charity dedicated to improving the lives of people living with CF. Formed in 1964, the Trust has continued to invest in cutting-edge research into the causes and treatments for the condition, campaigning for fast and equal access to transformational therapies and supporting improvements in the standards of clinical care. As an organisation, we have supported many of the major advances in CF research and healthcare. However, there is still much to be done.
Information about this role
The Philanthropy and Corporate Partnerships team is looking for a Philanthropy Volunteer to support them in securing high-value income.
In this role you will provide support across a number of areas of trust/foundation and high-net-worth fundraising (prospect research, mailings, thanking, application and report writing, etc.). to introduce you to the skills needed for an entry-level philanthropic fundraising role, whilst you also help us to raise much-needed funds for the charity. We have had great success with this role in the past, with all of our past volunteers so far having secured 4-figure donations for Cystic Fibrosis Trust and gained valuable experience for a career in fundraising. We may also be able to offer work within the Corporate Partnerships team to provide more varied experience.
We are looking for someone who:
- has some experience in general admin tasks and working with Microsoft 365 applications (e.g. Word)
- is available to volunteer over the next six months in Head Office
- is organised, with good attention to detail
- is good at team working.
Training and support
- You will be managed by an experienced Philanthropy Manager.
- Full support will be given with software packages that we use, e.g., NG donor management database.
- You will be provided with a laptop to use for your volunteering.
- We would also be open to offering career advice and mock interviews, depending on length of time with us.
- Volunteering hours are flexible to fit around you.

What skills do I need?
It’d be great if you have some knowledge of or interest in books, know what to look out for with book publishing dates etc.
A really keen eye for detail and ability to cross reference items across a number of websites to provide the most realistic valuation
Ability to work on your own initiative and as part of a team
Ability to communicate effectively with other members of the team and customers.
Ability to use computer for research
You may need to handle bags and donations from the public and there may be stairs to climb depending on which shop you are based in. If you have any concerns about this, please speak with the Shop Manager when expressing your interest in volunteering.
How much time do I need to commit?
We’d need you to give around three hours per week if you can with the possibility to do more if you’d like to. However, we appreciate any time you’d like to give; please let us know this on your application form. All we ask is that you give the same hours each week and that you let us know as soon as you can if you’re not able to make it. This’ll help us to plan our week.
What support will I be given?
Before starting with Tenovus Cancer Care, we ask that you do try a small number of hours in the shop so we can both see how the role may suit you. The amount of hours can be decided between you and the Shop Manager.
Following that the Shop Manager and team will be on hand to run you through the basics of helping in a shop in your first few days and they’ll always be on hand after that.

We are looking for self-motivated and compassionate individuals to help deliver our Helpline service and make a difference to the lives of anyone affected by cancer.
The Helpline offers those with cancer a chance to share their feelings and experiences with someone who has empathy for what they are going through. Helpline Volunteers create a safe and welcoming environment, listen, and provide emotional support and signposting individuals onto further information.
No special qualifications are needed for this role, but access to a telephone in a comfortable quiet setting is essential.

Why am I needed?
Community is at the heart of everything that we do at Tenovus Cancer Care to help those affected by cancer. Our aim is simple – to deliver a vision where fewer people get cancer and those that do receive equal access to excellent treatment. However, we can’t do this without your help. Our shops in local communities are crucial to us raising vital funds. So, we’d like you to volunteer your time and commitment to help us make a difference. We need you to help create exciting displays in our windows and in our shops to help turn clothes into cash.
What will I be doing?
Creating visually inspiring displays in our windows and in our shops under the guidance of our shop management team
Merchandising, displaying and maintaining high standards of presentation in the shop according to promotional activities and seasonal trends
Maintaining high levels of shop standards, presentation and cleanliness
Speaking with customers, making them welcome and answering queries
Promoting awareness of the charity and the services that we provide.
What skills do I need?
Creativity
A strong interest in fashion and retail
It’d be great if you have some knowledge of fashion, labels and trends
A really keen eye for detail
Ability to work on your own initiative and as part of a team
Ability to communicate effectively with other members of the team and customers.
Many of the standard tasks within the shop involve standing or sitting for periods, handling bags and donations from the public and there may be stairs to climb depending on which shop you are based in. If you have any concerns about this, please speak with the Shop Manager when expressing your interest in volunteering.
How much time do I need to commit?
We’d need you to give around three hours per week if you can with the possibility to do more if you’d like to. However, we appreciate any time you’d like to give; please let us know this on your application form. All we ask is that you give the same hours each week and that you let us know as soon as you can if you’re not able to make it. This’ll help us to plan our week.
What support will I be given?
Before starting with Tenovus Cancer Care, we ask that you do try a small number of hours in the shop so we can both see how the role may suit you. The amount of hours can be decided between you and the Shop Manager.
Following that the Shop Manager and team will be on hand to run you through the basics of helping in a shop in your first few days and they’ll always be on hand after that.
Becoming a volunteer with Tenovus Cancer Care can be a rewarding experience and is certainly invaluable to the charity and its goals.

Sorting through our book donations and pricing them ready for sale
Researching interesting books online on sites such as eBay, Amazon and Abe Books to value them for sale in the shop
Displaying the books on the shop floor ensuring books are rotated regularly to increase sales
Enlisting help from local auction houses when needed
Speaking with customers, making them welcome and answering queries
Promoting awareness of the charity and the services that we provide.
What skills do I need?
It’d be great if you have some knowledge of or interest in books, know what to look out for with book publishing dates etc.
A really keen eye for detail and ability to cross reference items across a number of websites to provide the most realistic valuation
Ability to work on your own initiative and as part of a team
Ability to communicate effectively with other members of the team and customers.
Ability to use computer for research

Why am I needed?
Our shops depend on a regular supply of quality donated stock. As some shops receive more donations than others, we need drivers to move stock between our shops to ensure they are all fully stocked.
Our fantastic supporters rely on stock donations being collected from their door when they are unable to bring it to us. Here at Tenovus Cancer Care we receive donated stock in many different ways, and this includes us collecting stock from supporters at their front door and picking up collections from local business partners.
All of this vital work needs to happen for us to raise more money to help cancer patients and their families.
What will I be doing?
Dependant on your volunteer location, duties may include but may not be limited to:
Predominantly assisting the Retail team in moving stock between shops
Taking this donated stock to shops and to the Warehouse
Delivering donation bags to homes in selected areas and collecting the full bags on an agreed day
Collecting donations at businesses where our ‘Donation Stations’ are located
Offering feedback to the Retail team on how to improve the collections service.
What skills and qualities do I need?
An enthusiasm for the work of Tenovus Cancer Care
A good level of fitness and enjoy being outside
Good communication skills to be able to respond positively with any queries from members of the pubic
Reliability, honesty and like helping as part of a team
This role would suit a proactive and outgoing person who enjoys meeting with others
The ability to drive and have a good size car or van is essential for the driving role if based at one of our shops. You will need to check with your car insurers that you are insured for business use before starting with us (this can usually be arranged at no extra cost) and your driving licence and business insurance will need to be checked before you can start.
How much time do I need to commit?
This can be discussed with the Retail team and hours are very flexible to fit around you – please note on your application how much time you can give.
What support and training will I be given?
A dedicated member of staff will be on hand to offer you advice, support and guidance in your role.

Where will I be based?
You’ll be based at one of our Tenovus Cancer Care shops across Wales and England, with regular travel around agreed areas. You must have access to your own vehicle.
