Who are Dougie Mac?

We are an all age hospice, delivering all our services free of charge to adults, young adults and children living with a life-limiting illness in Stoke-on-Trent, North Staffordshire and the surrounding villages; we also offer supportive wrap-around care for their families and carers. We have been caring for local people since 1973 and our dedicated staff and volunteers are central to the care we provide and all we do. We strive to go that extra mile to provide a warm, friendly and peaceful environment both at the hospice or in a family’s home.

Dougie Mac has over 700 dedicated volunteers that give their time in every department across the hospice including retail, finance, fundraising, gardening, catering and care services. Our volunteers are absolutely essential to the work we do. Without the fabulous support we receive from our volunteers, in every area of the hospice, we simply couldn’t continue to provide, or fund, our care services.

What does being a Dementia Carer Support Group volunteer involve?

• Assisting in the setup of the venue before the session starts
• Welcoming attendees to sessions, helping to provide a warm and welcoming environment without judgement
• Facilitating refreshments such as teas and coffees for carers and people with dementia
• Talking with carers and people with dementia, providing a friendly face and redirecting any queries on dementia support to one of the staff members present
• Be an empathetic and enthusiastic participant in the sessions, making sure that attendees enjoy their time in the groups
• Assist in the taking down of the venue after the session, leaving it clean and presentable

What skills do I need?

Sibling Support

• Engage siblings in play, recreation and sports
• Choose activities which are child-led where possible
• Assist at mealtimes with drinks and meals

Pamper Sessions: ad-hoc role

• Need to be able to show qualifications
• Therapists who are able to offer treatments to parents/carers of the children under Dougie Mac’s care and also to the young adults
• It is preferred the therapist comes into Dougie Mac – treatment rooms available in both children’s and young adult’s buildings
• Dougie Mac can purchase products for the treatments with prior agreement

Saturday Club

• Planning sessions with other volunteers
• Organising of materials, equipment and rooms prior to sessions

Volunteers retail assistant need to help with the general merchandising of stock and to serve customers in a polite and pleasant manner. The aim is to give a enjoyable shopping experience.

What’s involved?

• To interact with the public in a friendly, polite and efficient manner.
• To liaise with shop staff and take instruction.
• To accept donations as well as following the gift aid procedure.

• To help keep the shop areas clean and tidy.
• Report any complaints or problems to the shop manager.

This role will suit people who:

Have a friendly and enthusiastic manner and enjoy Volunteering.  This role can sometimes be physically demanding, and you may be on your feet all day.

General:

· To act responsibly at all times ensuring that any actions do not bring the Hospice into disrepute

· To contribute to the team working and efficient functioning of the Hospice

· To ensure compliance with the Hospice policies and procedures and have regard for the employees obligations under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, reporting all mishaps/accidents as and when they occur to the Community Engagement Lead

· Report any equipment shortages and/or electrical faults to the Community Engagement Lead

· To attend mandatory training sessions as required and demonstrate awareness of the correct procedure to be undertaken in the event of a fire

· To attend and participate in such meetings and events as may be reasonably required

Guided by the Parkinson’s community, we’ve shaped our strategy ‘Every Parkinson’s Journey’ for 2023 to 2026.   Our strategic aims are focused on improving access to health and care; improving our community offer and continuing with our groundbreaking research.

We're a growing organisation with 605 employees, 4000 volunteers and a projected income of £43m. The Board of Trustees and its committees govern the charity with diligence and enthusiasm and make sure we're financially stable, well-run, and delivering what the Parkinson's community really needs.

Our trustees and independent committee members come from a wide range of backgrounds and have diverse experience, which we draw on to guide and oversee the charity’s work. Trustees share this responsibility both individually and collectively. This requires Trustees to contribute in an informed and active way to all aspects of the Board’s work. 

What you’ll bring 

To complement our collective skillset we are looking for a new Trustee to join the Board (currently comprising 13 Trustees) who is, or who has significant and recent experience as a Parkinson’s health and care professional in the UK,  to help oversee the charity’s activities in health and social care.

We welcome applications from candidates, who can demonstrate the following:

• Substantial specialist Parkinson’s clinical experience in a UK health or social care setting

• Good understanding of wider issues and opportunities in UK health and social care, for example in:

1. the delivery of services to people with Parkinson's and/or 
2. educating and developing the workforce

• Understanding or willingness to learn about what it means to be a trustee

• Willingness and availability to devote the necessary time and effort

• Ability to work effectively as a member of a team

• Effective networking and  communication skills to represent the charity with external stakeholders

Are you a proactive fundraiser and looking to support a small charity? We're looking for 2 energetic and enthusiastic fundraiser volunteers to increase the fundraising opportunities for the charity as well as developing corporate partnerships, legacy giving, individual giving and major donors. This role may also include:

• Develop new and imaginative fundraising activities, many of which involve organising events
• Project manage fundraising events, from inception all the way through to evaluation
• Recruit and promote supporters and volunteers for challenge and national events.
• Assisting with researching and approaching corporate entities for event sponsorships, partnerships, Charity of the Year partnerships, and donations from corporate foundations
• Assisting with writing and delivering grant proposals for funding to trusts, foundations and other institutes
• Writing emails and speaking with potential partners about the work of Burning Nights CRPS Support with the aim of securing funds for the organisation
• Helping to maintain the fundraising database, ensuring accuracy and consistency of all records;
• Development in fundraising opportunities
• Keeping in contact with current & past donors and assisting in finding new donors
• Communicating with past fundraisers and encourage them to consider fundraising in the future
• Assist in marketing our events

Key & Desirable Skills:

About the Charity: Burning Nights CRPS Support is a UK wide charity that works to improve life for those living with Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS), their families, loved ones, carers and friends. As a charity we raise awareness about the condition amongst the public, health and legal professionals by providing CRPS awareness sessions so that patients can be diagnosed quicker to enable treatment to start more rapidly.

Even though we are a small organisation we have big ideas and would like to draw on your experience in the communications world to help the charity deliver engaging content and communications to help us spread our aims and message to all our audience.

What Will You Be Doing?

• Engagement: Help increase engagement, improve the number of followers/likes, create & execute a content calendar
• Content Creation: Produce fresh, branded and engaging content for our social media channels 
• Graphics: Prepare graphics and text for sharing across channels 
• Strategy: Help develop a social media strategy
• Engage with our followers and encourage interaction 
• Manage and maintain social media channels on a regular basis

• Building strategies to increase social media following and /or build fundraising or awareness campaigns
• Developing a coherent brand voice for social media, from content creation to community interactions
• Using and setting up tools such as Buffer, Canva etc
• Creating and executing content calendars to help plan social media activity

Are you an enthusiastic and skilled funding grant writer? Be a part of our small but committed team as a pro-active grant writer volunteer for a small national charity supporting people affected by a debilitating pain condition.

We are looking for 2 skilled grant writer volunteers who can take the lead in researching appropriate funds and writing grant bids to help us continue offering our support services and resources and helping us create new programmes and services to support patients and their families who have been affected by a poorly understood chronic condition; Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS).

As our Grant Writer you will be responsible for identifying appropriate grant opportunities, and managing the grant development and proposal process from research to submitting grant applications with any supporting documents.

As our grant writer, you will:

• Identify appropriate sources of funding where we fit their criteria 
• Write appropriately tailored grant/funding bids that meet funders’ interests and requirements and to write any additional documents in support of funding bids
• Help develop a Trusts and Foundations strategy to help create and maintain strong and diverse income that meets Burning Nights CRPS Support’s funding needs
• Create a calendar of grant deadlines and track submitted funding proposals
• Help us develop a case for support 
• Report on grant usage and impact
• Review all grant/bid feedback and ensure knowledge is shared, so that learning informs us for future approaches to grants

Other Information

This role is done remotely using Zoom, Slack and email. You would be working closely with the charity’s Chair and with other trustees. However we would have regular updates and remote meetings as needed so we know you are getting the support you need.

We have an induction process that will help successful applicant to understand how our Charity operates and full support of all our volunteers.

Are you ready to make a lasting impact on families affected by childhood cancer in Yorkshire? Candlelighters, a charity that provides vital financial, emotional, and practical support to over 150 new families each year, is seeking an Independent Trustee to join our Board and help guide our work.
Term: 3 Years
Time Commitment: There are a minimum of three scheduled meetings across the year, in person in Leeds or via Microsoft Teams, with extra time needed for preparation.  We have an annual Board Away Day in November. There are opportunities to join sub-committees - Finance and Audit, Family Support, Research, Nominations and Remunerations.

Marie Curie Home Companions is a professional service provided by trained volunteers who offer one-to-one companionship and support to people with a terminal illness and their families. Home companions provide emotional support, practical support, short breaks for carers and help with signposting for information and support.

The role will include some of, but is not restricted to, the following tasks:

• Carry out weekly visits with the person(s) you're supporting, as agreed with the Volunteer Co-ordinator. This could be in a variety of settings, eg family home, a care home or in the community.

• Provide one-to-one companionship and support.

For example: offering a listening ear and spending time engaging in every-day conversation, activities or hobbies with the person you are supporting. Driving clients to pre-arranged health or social care (e.g. to medical appointments) or taking short trips out. Helping with small, daily tasks, e.g. making tea or accessing the internet. Allowing carers to have a short break. You may be supporting your client's family or carers before or during bereavement. This may involve offering emotional support, signposting to relevant local support services or finding out information as requested

Catalyst Support works to promote the mental health and well-being of people in Surrey, improving lives in terms of stability and well-being, with the aim of reducing harm to themselves, their families and the community. This is achieved through a wide range of projects, many carried out in partnership with other agencies, across the county.

This is an important time for Catalyst Support, having grown significantly in the last five years, with a turnover that now sits at around £5m. Our work is more vital than ever in a world where consideration of our mental health and well-being is so important.

Catalyst Support is now seeking a new Chair and Trustee (Finance) as both post holders are retiring at the end of the year. We are seeking individuals who are genuinely committed to the mission and values of the charity.

For the Chair we are seeking a strategic thinker with:

• Proven experience in a leadership or governance role, demonstrating the ability to lead and inspire a diverse group of trustees and stakeholders.
• Experience of chairing and facilitating meetings of a strategic and/or business nature, and monitoring that decisions taken and agreed by others are implemented.

Expenses
These roles are unremunerated but reasonable expenses incurred in the execution of trustee duties will be reimbursed.
