About us:
Long Covid SOS is a registered charity dedicated to throwing a lifeline to people living with the impact of Long Covid by pushing for greater recognition and awareness, advocating for targeted research and providing support and resources. With a passionate team of volunteers and Trustees, we use our voice to promote recognition and understanding of the experiences of people with Long Covid and its devastating effects on their lives. We advocate for and encourage inclusive and appropriate research into Long Covid and support those with Long Covid to live the best lives they can by providing extensive resources and working with stakeholders to help secure effective and appropriate care and treatment for them.
Role overview:
As the Chair of the Board of Trustees, you will provide pivotal strategic and inspirational leadership and direction to the Board, ensuring that Long Covid SOS is effectively governed, and remains focused on its mission and strategic goals. This is a unique voluntary opportunity for an accomplished leader with strong governance experience to make a significant impact for those with Long Covid. You will act as an ambassador for the charity, fostering relationships with key stakeholders, partners and the wider community. The role is a remote position and will require a commitment of 2-4 days per month.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Strategic Leadership: -
- Collaborate closely with the CEO to support the delivery of Long Covid SOS’s strategic objectives.
- Provide strategic leadership and direction to the Board of Trustees, ensuring effective governance and oversight.
- Develop and articulate a clear vision for the charity’s future.
- Collaborate with fellow Trustees to establish strategic goals and objectives and devise an execution plan to achieve these goals.
- Ensure alignment between the charity’s mission and operational activities.
- Contribute to the charity’s fundraising strategy and ensure the charity stays on target to achieve its fundraising goals.
2. Trustee Engagement: -
- Promote a culture of active engagement, collaboration, and transparency within the Board, ensuring all Trustees are effectively contributing to discussions and decision-making.
3. Meeting Facilitation: -
- Lead Trustee meetings in a manner that encourages open dialogue, ensuring that every opinion is considered and respected.
- Ensure board meetings are effective, inclusive, and focused on the charity’s key priorities.
4. Governance: -
- Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and best practice requirements.
5. Ambassadorship: -
- The Chair will occasionally be asked to attend external events and meetings, enhancing the charity’s profile and building relationships with key stakeholders to further our goals.
Person Specification:

- Proven experience in a significant leadership role within the charity, public or private sectors.

Who are Dougie Mac?
We are an all age hospice, delivering all our services free of charge to adults, young adults and children living with a life-limiting illness in Stoke-on-Trent, North Staffordshire and the surrounding villages; we also offer supportive wrap-around care for their families and carers. We have been caring for local people since 1973 and our dedicated staff and volunteers are central to the care we provide and all we do. We strive to go that extra mile to provide a warm, friendly and peaceful environment both at the hospice or in a family’s home.
Dougie Mac has over 700 dedicated volunteers that give their time in every department across the hospice including retail, finance, fundraising, gardening, catering and care services. Our volunteers are absolutely essential to the work we do. Without the fabulous support we receive from our volunteers, in every area of the hospice, we simply couldn’t continue to provide, or fund, our care services.

What does being a Dementia Carer Support Group volunteer involve?
- Assisting in the setup of the venue before the session starts
- Welcoming attendees to sessions, helping to provide a warm and welcoming environment without judgement
- Facilitating refreshments such as teas and coffees for carers and people with dementia
- Talking with carers and people with dementia, providing a friendly face and redirecting any queries on dementia support to one of the staff members present
- Be an empathetic and enthusiastic participant in the sessions, making sure that attendees enjoy their time in the groups
- Assist in the taking down of the venue after the session, leaving it clean and presentable

Sibling Support
- Engage siblings in play, recreation and sports

Pamper Sessions: ad-hoc role

- Therapists who are able to offer treatments to parents/carers of the children under Dougie Mac’s care and also to the young adults
- It is preferred the therapist comes into Dougie Mac – treatment rooms available in both children’s and young adult’s buildings
- Dougie Mac can purchase products for the treatments with prior agreement
Saturday Club
- Planning sessions with other volunteers
- Organising of materials, equipment and rooms prior to sessions
- Engaging with children and young people during the sessions
- Cleaning up and storing of materials and equipment after sessions
- Completing necessary paperwork

What’s involved?

· To act responsibly at all times ensuring that any actions do not bring the Hospice into disrepute
· To contribute to the team working and efficient functioning of the Hospice
· To ensure compliance with the Hospice policies and procedures and have regard for the employees obligations under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, reporting all mishaps/accidents as and when they occur to the Community Engagement Lead
· Report any equipment shortages and/or electrical faults to the Community Engagement Lead
· To attend mandatory training sessions as required and demonstrate awareness of the correct procedure to be undertaken in the event of a fire
· To attend and participate in such meetings and events as may be reasonably required

What you’ll do

We're a growing organisation with 605 employees, 4000 volunteers and a projected income of £43m. The Board of Trustees and its committees govern the charity with diligence and enthusiasm and make sure we're financially stable, well-run, and delivering what the Parkinson's community really needs.
Our trustees and independent committee members come from a wide range of backgrounds and have diverse experience, which we draw on to guide and oversee the charity’s work. Trustees share this responsibility both individually and collectively. This requires Trustees to contribute in an informed and active way to all aspects of the Board’s work.
What you’ll bring
To complement our collective skillset we are looking for a new Trustee to join the Board (currently comprising 13 Trustees) who is, or who has significant and recent experience as a Parkinson’s health and care professional in the UK, to help oversee the charity’s activities in health and social care.

Are you a proactive fundraiser and looking to support a small charity? We're looking for 2 energetic and enthusiastic fundraiser volunteers to increase the fundraising opportunities for the charity as well as developing corporate partnerships, legacy giving, individual giving and major donors. This role may also include:
- Develop new and imaginative fundraising activities, many of which involve organising events
- Project manage fundraising events, from inception all the way through to evaluation

About the Charity: Burning Nights CRPS Support is a UK wide charity that works to improve life for those living with Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS), their families, loved ones, carers and friends. Could you use your social media, marketing and communications experience to raise the profile of a small charity? Help us to increase our social media presence and engagement, generate greatr content and help promote existing activities.
Our charity delivers a range of awareness campaigns and support services to patients, relatives, partners and carers who have been affected by a poorly understood pain condition; Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS). We are looking for 2 experienced social media and communications volunteers who are able to develop posts and campaigns from design to inception, create fresh and engaging content, increase engagement and to increase awareness of the charity and of the condition we represent.
Even though we are a small organisation we have big ideas and would like to draw on your experience in the communications world to help the charity deliver engaging content and communications to help us spread our aims and message to all our audience.
What Will You Be Doing?

- Building strategies to increase social media following and /or build fundraising or awareness campaigns
- Developing a coherent brand voice for social media, from content creation to community interactions
- Using and setting up tools such as Buffer, Canva etc
- Creating and executing content calendars to help plan social media activity

Are you an enthusiastic and skilled funding grant writer? Be a part of our small but committed team as a pro-active grant writer volunteer for a small national charity supporting people affected by a debilitating pain condition.
We are looking for 2 skilled grant writer volunteers who can take the lead in researching appropriate funds and writing grant bids to help us continue offering our support services and resources and helping us create new programmes and services to support patients and their families who have been affected by a poorly understood chronic condition; Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS).
As our Grant Writer you will be responsible for identifying appropriate grant opportunities, and managing the grant development and proposal process from research to submitting grant applications with any supporting documents.
As our grant writer, you will:
- Identify appropriate sources of funding where we fit their criteria
- Write appropriately tailored grant/funding bids that meet funders’ interests and requirements and to write any additional documents in support of funding bids
- Help develop a Trusts and Foundations strategy to help create and maintain strong and diverse income that meets Burning Nights CRPS Support’s funding needs
- Create a calendar of grant deadlines and track submitted funding proposals
- Help us develop a case for support
- Report on grant usage and impact
- Review all grant/bid feedback and ensure knowledge is shared, so that learning informs us for future approaches to grants
If you are an experienced grant writer or you just enjoy researching and persuasive writing then we would love to hear from you.
We are looking for a volunteer who has:
- Experience of being a grant writer, project proposal writer and editing skills
- Excellent writing, analytical, and research skills are essential
- Creative and persuasive written and spoken communication skills
- Self-motivated and highly-organised
- Ability to work remotely
- Ability to search online databases and other sources to identify appropriate funds
- Ability to understand and appeal to funders’ differing needs
- Ability to organise your own work, track and report back regularly
- Experience setting up funding email templates (desirable)
- Ability to quickly understand the needs of our organisation and our service users
- Understands the resource constraints of a small charity and can work with these
- Open to feedback
- Ideally have good network with people, organisations and charities which can help us to support our projects

Other Information
This role is done remotely using Zoom, Slack and email. You would be working closely with the charity’s Chair and with other trustees. However we would have regular updates and remote meetings as needed so we know you are getting the support you need.

Marie Curie Home Companions is a professional service provided by trained volunteers who offer one-to-one companionship and support to people with a terminal illness and their families. Home companions provide emotional support, practical support, short breaks for carers and help with signposting for information and support.
The role will include some of, but is not restricted to, the following tasks:
