Purpose of the role?
People with a learning disability or additional needs are often isolated and excluded from mainstream leisure and social activities. Our adult citizens want to enjoy social & leisure activities with their friends, and by giving just a little time each month, you can help them do that.
What would I be doing?
You will help us to support a small group of people to enjoy a variety of activities including:
· Going to a local café or browsing the shops
· Going to the pub, restaurant, or cinema
· Activities such ten-pin bowling, visiting a park or attending a local event.
This is a nice, light touch way to make a difference, have fun and gain valuable experience. Expenses are reimbursed.
What do I need?
To be a volunteer you need to be

· An enhanced DBS check and references will be required

Treasurer - Open Country Harrogate
We are a dynamic Yorkshire charity enabling disabled people to access and enjoy the countryside through an extensive programme of exciting countryside activities and the provision of access information and advice.
Epsom RDA provides opportunities for disabled people to improve their health and well-being through the therapeutic power of horses.
We are a thriving charity providing therapy, fun and achievement for over 200 disabled participants delivered by a team of volunteers and our own herd of ponies. We have exciting plans for growth and to increase the range of activities we offer.
To assist us in this we are looking for a new trustee with responsibility for fundraising. We are looking for someone with experience of fundraising in a charity or not for profit environment. Excellent relationship building and communication skills are essential, as is a desire to drive improvements and get things done.
As we are entirely run by volunteers, trustees need to be hands on and be able to collaborate with volunteers to achieve our aims. We foster an environment that is inclusive as well as diverse, where our people can be themselves. Every idea and perspective is valued so that we can reflect the community we serve.
Key activities:
- Develop a fundraising strategy which sets out where best to focus our efforts to ensure we raise the funds needed to fund our ongoing operation and deliver our future strategic plans be that corporate fundraising, trusts and foundations, individual giving, legacies, events or a combination of all of these;
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with our existing funders;
- Establish new relationships to develop a range of new income streams and opportunities in line with the strategy;
- Work with our marketing and communications trustee to devise a regular programme of communications to existing and potential funders;
- Build and maintain close working relationships with our team of skilled events fundraising volunteers;
- Continually look for new opportunities, keeping up to date with the work of RDAs across the country and seek out new ideas and opportunities;
- Be a core member of the Finance, Performance and Governance Sub-Committee.
Skills and attributes:
- Experience of creating and/or delivering fundraising strategies;
- Excellent organisational and strategic planning skills;
- The ability to build trusted relationships with a variety of people including existing and potential funders, volunteers and fellow trustees;
- An understanding of our service users and their needs.
Whilst there are no set hours, given the hands-on nature of all of our trustee roles, the successful candidate will need to commit to a minimum of three hours per week on average. Whilst the role can be performed remotely, there is an expectation that the trustee will attend face to face meetings quarterly

To assist us in this we are looking for an Honorary Secretary trustee with a focus on ensuring that Epsom RDA meets its constitutional and statutory responsibilities. We are looking for someone with a detailed understanding of charity governance, ideally gained through experience of working or volunteering in a leadership role for a charity. Excellent organisational and communication skills are essential, as is a desire to drive improvements and get things done.

Key Responsibilities:
- Work with fellow trustees to ensure that the board fulfils its responsibilities for governance and driving the strategic direction of the charity;
- Be familiar with the charity’s governing document, legal responsibilities of charities under the Charities Act 2009 and the charity’s internal governance documents;
- Work with the Chair to drive board effectiveness and performance and ensure that this is reviewed regularly;
- Ensure board of trustees are aware of the requirements to comply with relevant codes e.g. Charity Governance Code, plus relevant legislation relating to health and safety and safeguarding etc
- Help to ensure that trustees file all relevant statutory returns and information with charities regulator (e.g. Annual Report and Accounts, changes to the charity’s details and/or trustees’ details).
- Plan and deliver the annual governance cycle including production of supporting papers for trustee meetings and preparation of the Annual General Meeting (AGM);
- Maintain our register of members, register of trustees and register of trustees’ and secretary interests;
- Keep up to date with developments in best practice in charity leadership and governance through networking with other charities and RDA groups;
- Be the Group contact point for RDA National on governance related matters.
- You will also be required to be a member of the Finance, Performance and Governance Sub-Committee;

Mencap Mates Coffee Mate Ipswich
We support a gentleman who is 62 he likes to travel and also enjoys going out for a coffee there are some nice coffee shops that can be travelled to in Ipswich but he would also be happy to go further with your support, he is free on the later part of the week and weekends.
He is looking to make a friendship with a someone who is kind and can meet up monthly.
We support adults with a learning disability in a shared home in your local area. They all have different interests and would love a volunteer to come and spend time with them doing what they love! As well as sharing their interests, you will be supporting to improve their social lives and as a volunteer you will have the opportunity to make a real, positive, and meaningful impact in the lives of people with a learning disability.
This role will take place on a weekly basis for a few hours (dependent on what you get up to) and we can be flexible to arrange this around the best time for you. It could be a weekday, weeknight or weekend. We’d appreciate any time that you can spare.
Whilst on shift, you will do activities based on the interests of you and those you volunteer with, you will arrive at their home each shift, see who is keen to hangout, and simply spend time together.
**Activities you could get up to whilst volunteering could include: **

- Going for a stroll/coffee/shopping in your local area
- Playing games or doing activities at home

External Relations
· Act as an ambassador for the charity.
· Represent the charity at external functions, meetings and events.

Befriender Role
We are looking for compassionate, friendly volunteers 18+ with good communication and organisational skills with the ability to maintain accurate records, reporting to our office in Newcastle-Under-Lyme. The role will involve helping to build social interaction and the confidence of the client, establishing and maintaining a friendly, sympathetic and professional relationship. Volunteers will be matched to clients with similar interests, introduced to ensure they are happy to work together and accompanied by a mentor on the first few visits. This could involve meeting the client at a café, going shopping or going to the gym as examples. Encouraging engagement with our and other organisation activities helping the service user to socialise, to gain confidence and improve their standard of life. We welcome people to make an appointment to discuss volunteering with us.
Commitment
The time required for the role varies from 1 to 4 hours a week dependent on how much time you can give. We are looking for a reasonable commitment (6 months+).
Suitability
Must be 18+. We are especially looking for mature volunteers (possibly ex NHS staff) as many of our clients interact well with such people. Those interested in tackling social isolation/exclusion. The role may be of interest to those interested in psychology or looking to go into counselling, social work or care roles.
Training and Expenses
Training & supervision is provided, travel and reasonable volunteer role related expenses are paid. You will be fully supported by the CEO and staff from our Newcastle-Under-Lyme office.
Requirements
References will/may be required and a DBS check will be carried out at the charities expense so we are looking for a reasonable commitment (6 months+).

Vacancy - Chair of the Board of Trustees Barbara Bus Fund, Stanmore
The Barbara Bus Fund is recruiting for a new Chairperson.
The Barbara Bus Fund is a registered charity, which was set up in 1968 to help people who cannot get out or use public transport or an ordinary car, because they have a disability that necessitates full-time use of a wheelchair.
Today the BBF operates a fleet of 16 specially converted vehicles from Stanmore, Aylesbury and North Wales. The BBF is operated by a combination of paid and volunteer staff with head office at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore.
The role of Chair is a voluntary position with the requirement to commit to one to two days per month, attend online meetings every 6-8 weeks and the AGM. The Chair will lead the Board of Trustees, chair committee meetings and the AGM.
Previous trustee / charity experience is required and the commitment to Nolan’s seven principles of public life: selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty and leadership. Previous experience within the health / care / transport sectors will be a distinct advantage however, other relevant experience and the right attributes will also be considered.
The BBF holds an annual meal to thank the volunteers and staff, and there are other periodic meetings and events throughout the year.

We are looking for a patient volunteer to visit a gentleman who lives in Newcastle. This man has learning disabilities. The visits will likely be short, enough time for a chat, a cuppa, and to check in on how he is doing.
This gentleman is supported by a dedicated team who regularly take him swimming, horse riding, out for walks and for meals in the local pub or café, which any volunteer is very welcome to join.
We offer a lifelong befriending service for adults with learning disabilities. Matching the skills and interests of passionate visitors with the specific hobbies and interests of the people we visit. Visitors visit six times a year to create a 1-2-1 connection, offer companionship, encourage people to do the things they enjoy and check-in on their wellbeing.
In many cases, the visitor is the only person in someone’s life who isn’t paid to be there for them. In this role you will spend quality time with the person you visit and could do a range of different activities like:
- Sitting and having a chat
- Checking in on their well- being
- Going out to a local cafe/pub for a meal/drink
- Enjoying a walk
- A craft activity at home
- Reading a book/magazine together

In this role you will only be helping individuals in places open to the public, often in a group setting. We will provide training in sighted guiding techniques and understanding sight loss.
