Job description

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of individuals affected by drug and alcohol use? Join Collective Voice as our Independent Chair!

Applications for this role close at 9 a.m. Wednesday 4th December.

Who we are.

Established in 2015, Collective Voice is the national alliance of voluntary sector drug and alcohol treatment and recovery services. We advocate for a system that reduces harm and nurtures recovery and the vital role of charities in delivering this.

We work in partnership with a range of organisations to:

  • Advocate for treatment and recovery by influencing policy at a national level and championing the voluntary sector’s role in treatment and recovery.
  • Build the field by informing, connecting and innovating.
  • Strengthen our collective voice by renewing our governance, growing and diversifying our membership, and leading through collaboration.

About the role.

This is an exciting time to join Collective Voice. We are a young charity; originally created as an alliance of treatment and recovery charities in 2015 and constituted as an independent charity in 2019.

Thanks in considerable part to our first independent Chair, Lea Milligan, we have built a strong reputation and are ambitious to build upon our foundations as we look to work with a new Government and develop plans beyond our current 2022-25 organisational strategy.

Our new Chair will help us realise the next stage of our evolution. Working closely with our Director and Board of Trustees, you will help us think through and drive our future direction, leading our next strategy and involving more diverse voices to build on our work to date.

Who we are looking for.

We are looking for someone with vision and ambition who will understand how to shape and develop great governance and formulate and deliver strategy. You will have deft interpersonal skills, experience in representation, and the ability to engage with a wide range of stakeholders. As the board continues to evolve and mature, you will also be an expert in offering constructive critique and challenge and drawing out healthy and generative debate.

Given that independence is important in this role, your experience is likely to come from outside of alcohol and drug treatment, but this could be in allied areas such as mental health, criminal justice, homelessness, children’s or adult social care. However, we are looking for a Chair who can drive and support change and development with gravitas and credibility, so we are open-minded about your background. What is important is your commitment to ensuring the voice of the drug and alcohol treatment sector and the people who use its services is heard.

We are keen to encourage applications from a diverse range of candidates to ensure we have an inclusive Board with different skills and perspectives, and we welcome applications from a wide range of backgrounds.
