Our vision is enabling university students to live God-centred lives, so we teach structured, engaging and transformative face-to-face foundational Islamic education to over 1,800 students across the UK.

Role Summary

As the grants officer, you will work closely with the fundraising team and the academic team, to write proposals and apply for funding. This will involve research into grants offered by trusts, foundations and institutions, identifying which opportunities Roots Academy would be eligible for, and playing a key role in developing proposals for grant applications.

Key tasks

- Research:

○ Research trusts, foundations, institutions and other funding bodies that offer funding for Islamic education, BAME education, other faith based or inter-faith work, building community cohesion, or other areas which would be applicable to Roots Academy.

○ Identify key funding opportunities and calls for applications.

- Grant Writing and Coordination:

○ Plan and oversee the proposal development process, working closely with the academic team to collate relevant planning and impact information for proposal narrative, and with the finance team to prepare budget requirements.

○ Ensure proposals are written in line with the relevant proposal guidelines.

○ Submit grant applications.

- Donor Relations:

○ Act as the main point of contact for trusts, foundations, institutions and other funding bodies.

As a Fundraising Volunteer, you will work with the fundraising team lead to raise funds for Roots Academy. The funds will be used to support Roots Academy’s work – providing free, essential Islamic education to university students across the UK and beyond.

Key tasks

• Using your connections and communication skills, raise awareness of Roots Academy’s work, and ask for donations in an effort to raise money to support our education programmes.
• This may include but is not limited to:

○ Networking, attending or hosting events

○ Reaching out to contacts, mosques, and community centres

○ Arranging and attending collections

○ Online fundraising through Launchgood, Justgiving or other online platforms

○ Other ways of fundraising e.g. bake sales, bucket collections, challenges etc.

What we’re looking for

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Strong understanding of the Muslim community
• Passionate about Islamic education

We’re extending Ealing Book Festival'sBoard of Trustees to fulfil our long-term ambitions. We have a friendly, experienced team and financial strengths. Activities take place in central Ealing. Transport links are good.

Ealing Book Festival registered as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) in November 2023. Its objects are to advance the public education in West London’s Ealing through an annual book festival and writing-related events for the enjoyment of books. We encourage reading for pleasure, working widely and inclusively. We are volunteer led.

Our April 2024 the charity ran its successful first main event, with 86% tickets sold and very positive feedback on the quality and range of the events. The festival comprised 19 events including a great children’s poetry competition. We’re planning for April 2025.

Skills we’re seeking

We’re strengthening our outreach capacity, diversity and enterprise. We’d especially welcome people with skills and experience in

1.Enterprise: fundraising and income generation

2.Working with Ealing (or equivalent) based networks and communities

3.Knowledge and experience of arts and culture

Trustees work collectively, using skills, knowledge and experience to help the Board of Trustees reach sound decisions.We offer induction and training.

The time commitment will vary but could be around 2-3 hours per week, flexed according to what you can offer.

We are seeking experienced and skilled people who would like to join our talented Board of Trustees.

As a Trustee you will play a crucial and active role in shaping the strategic direction of the Hospice based in Ashton under Lyne.  With your commitment and enthusiasm, you will be involved in both governance responsibilities and proactive initiatives, as well as provide support, scruting and challenge to ensure the Hospice is able to grow and operate effectively.

The role of a trustee can be demanding but ultimately rewarding, as your contribution will help to make positive changes to people's lives.

We are looking for trustees from a variety of backgrounds, including those with clinical experience, faith leaders, local government officials and business professionals, among others.

Being a Trustee

IRMO’s Board of Trustees is made up of six to nine Trustees, who work together to ensure the charity is run properly. As a trustee, you will have the opportunity to support IRMO’s strategic development and oversee its finances. Trustees meet every two months (usually online in the evening) and are asked to commit an additional eight to ten hours between meetings to follow up on actions and provide advice and input on strategic documents and areas of work relevant to their areas of expertise.

Specific responsibilities

● Ensure that the Board receives appropriate budgetary and financial information on the activities of the charity, and highlight any variances

● Help the Board to understand the charity’s financial position and whether its resources meet present and future needs

● Ensure that the Board is aware of, and advise the Board on how to carry out, its financial duties and responsibilities

● Oversee the preparation and scrutiny of IRMO’s annual accounts

● Ensure that robust financial policies, procedures and controls are in place and reviewed on a regular basis

● Set an appropriate reserves policy

● Review banking arrangements with the Director every three years

● Review and approve, as appropriate, transactions above the threshold set out in the Financial Controls Policy that require triple-approval

● Sign funding contracts and financial reports when required

● For the purposes of good financial governance, carry out bi-annual spotchecks on IRMO’s transactions and monthly reconciliation

Music in Mind Powered by Manchester Camerata working with Stockport and District Mind.

A Music Champion is a volunteer programme that combines face to face and online training to use the proven therapeutic power of music as part of dementia care without any prior music experience.

You will train with staff and musicians in a community group setting as well as on line support and training.

At the end of the training a Music Champion will have the skills and confidence to help facilitate music sessions in their own community groups such as Care homes, day centres etc. If you think you can make a difference, you can spare half a day each week, and you are passionate about music please get in touch.

Home-Start believes that the earliest years make the biggest impact. Our work is with families who have (at least) one child under five and that are facing challenges such as loneliness, postnatal depression, or multiple births. We train volunteers to visit the family once a week, supporting them in a variety of emotional and practical ways. This is for 2 to 3 hours a week, one day per week.

By visiting a family in their own home, our volunteers represent a lifeline to families who are struggling to cope. They offer non-judgemental, confidential support in a way that is tailored to the needs of that individual family. By doing this, our volunteers support them to grow in confidence, strengthen their relationships with their children, and forge links within their local community.

Our approach works because our volunteers have parenting experience or experience with children, and they understand the stresses and strains of life. They are there to listen; not to judge.

To volunteer with Home-Start, we ask that you are a good listener, have an interest in supporting families, and are able to volunteer in the daytime for a minimum of 6 months. You should have experience with children/families, a desire to help and support others and have a 'can-do' attitude.

You might not think it, but your lived experience, your unique background, and the languages you speak, could hugely benefit the families we support. You can work alongside them to help them regain their confidence and resilience. In doing so, you can directly increase the chance of local children growing up happier and healthier.

Full training is provided (25- hour course) and an enhanced DBS check will be required. 

Languages particularly needed: Albanian, Arabic, Syrian Arabic, Farsi, Dari, Bengali, Pashto, British Sign Language.

We are looking for youth leaders and anti-racism activists to help us mentor the young people on our Activism Academy programme who are striving for racial justice across the UK. Our Activism Academy is a 6-month leadership development programme for young people interested in creating racial justice solutions.

You should be able to demonstrate a commitment to anti-racism or social justice through your past/current experience, either paid or voluntary.

As a volunteer, you would mentor 1 to 3 students for 13 weeks to help them plan and pilot a racial justice activism campaign of their creation.

Dates of commitment: February 2025 - May 2025 (exact schedule in application form)

Volunteer mentors must commit to:

• 4 x 40-minute online mentoring meetings with your mentee.
• Fill out post-session surveys and notes after each mentor session.
• Completing a 30-minute e-learning training to cover our safeguarding guidelines and how to support your mentees best.
• Provide ad-hoc support as and when your mentee needs it.
• Attend the final pitch event on the 10th of May 2025 (optional)

Help to increase biodiversity and enhance public access to nature by joining the Board of Histon & Impington Green Spaces. It's a member-based charity which has successfully raised over £500,000 to purchase two wild green spaces within Histon & Impington. It's now looking after them and looking to add to them through a program of engagement with other bodies which share its values.

We are currently recruiting for a Chair of the Thames Chase Trust Board of Trustees. Our new Chair will help continue to develop and strengthen the organisation, share our vision and support enrichment, preservation, and stewardship of the Thames Chase Community Forest. Collaborating with the Board of Trustees, Deputy Chair, Staff and Volunteers their role will help shape the long-term sustainable future of Thames Chase Trust as a charity and serve as an ambassador for our cause.

About the role 

• Term: Committee members are usually appointed for a period of three years, with the possibility of a second three-year term. 
• Location: In order to balance commitments of committee members, meetings are split between weekends and weekdays. Primarily meetings are by videoconference, with the possibility of one in-person meeting a year. 
• Remuneration: The role is voluntary.

This money is life changing for our clients; improving quality of life and wellbeing, and supporting local services

We are looking for volunteers who are patient, sensitive and reliable, to assist older people to complete benefit forms such as Attendance Allowance. Appointments are usually in the older person's own home but can sometimes take place over the telephone. Full training and ongoing support are provided by our friendly and knowledgeable team.

Our volunteers will also raise awareness of and promote Age UK Devon services to clients, and record details of any other queries or concerns so that our Advisors can follow up with clients.

Skills required for this role are:

· Ability to empathise with others.

· Good verbal and written communication skills.

· Understanding of confidentiality.

· Patience, sensitivity, and reliability.

· Ability to respond appropriately to different and sometimes difficult situations.

· Working as a team member, referring to other team members when appropriate.

· Ability to work unsupervised and manage appointments.

· Knowledge of the Benefits System (training will be provided).

People with a learning disability or additional needs are often isolated and excluded from mainstream leisure and social activities.  Our adult citizens want to enjoy social & leisure activities with their friends, and by giving just a little time each month, you can help them do that.

What would I be doing?

You will help us to support a small group of people to enjoy a variety of activities including:

· Going to a local café or browsing the shops

· Going to the pub, restaurant, or cinema

· Activities such ten-pin bowling, visiting a park or attending a local event.

This is a nice, light touch way to make a difference, have fun and gain valuable experience. Expenses are reimbursed.

What do I need?

To be a volunteer you need to be
