A Good Thing is a not-for-profit set up with one mission: to send less to landfill, and more to a good cause. We are rolling out fast across the UK, momentum is building, and we are growing a network of passionate local volunteer champions right across the country to drive our growth.

You’ll be using your connections (friends, family, colleagues, neighbours...), as well as your insights into the local area, to help us to build the numbers of businesses and charities signing up in your part of the UK. You might do this through making connections with businesses in your area, taking A Good Thing to the doorstep. Or you could approach businesses virtually, using your expert written communication skills to create communications that will engage and inspire them. You’ll definitely be using social media and your brilliant online networking skills to build links and relationships where you live.

About us:

Long Covid SOS is a registered charity dedicated to throwing a lifeline to people living with the impact of Long Covid by pushing for greater recognition and awareness, advocating for targeted research and providing support and resources. With a passionate team of volunteers and Trustees, we use our voice to promote recognition and understanding of the experiences of people with Long Covid and its devastating effects on their lives. We advocate for and encourage inclusive and appropriate research into Long Covid and support those with Long Covid to live the best lives they can by providing extensive resources and working with stakeholders to help secure effective and appropriate care and treatment for them. 

Role overview:

As the Chair of the Board of Trustees, you will provide pivotal strategic and inspirational leadership and direction to the Board, ensuring that Long Covid SOS is effectively governed, and remains focused on its mission and strategic goals. This is a unique voluntary opportunity for an accomplished leader with strong governance experience to make a significant impact for those with Long Covid. You will act as an ambassador for the charity, fostering relationships with key stakeholders, partners and the wider community. The role is a remote position and will require a commitment of 2-4 days per month. 

Key Responsibilities:

1. Strategic Leadership: - 

• Collaborate closely with the CEO to support the delivery of Long Covid SOS’s strategic objectives.
• Provide strategic leadership and direction to the Board of Trustees, ensuring effective governance and oversight. 
• Develop and articulate a clear vision for the charity’s future.
• Collaborate with fellow Trustees to establish strategic goals and objectives and devise an execution plan to achieve these goals. 
• Ensure alignment between the charity’s mission and operational activities.
• Contribute to the charity’s fundraising strategy and ensure the charity stays on target to achieve its fundraising goals.  

2. Trustee Engagement: -

• Promote a culture of active engagement, collaboration, and transparency within the Board, ensuring all Trustees are effectively contributing to discussions and decision-making. 

3. Meeting Facilitation: -

• Lead Trustee meetings in a manner that encourages open dialogue, ensuring that every opinion is considered and respected.
• Ensure board meetings are effective, inclusive, and focused on the charity’s key priorities.

4. Governance: -

• Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and best practice requirements.

 5. Ambassadorship: -

• The Chair will occasionally be asked to attend external events and meetings, enhancing the charity’s profile and building relationships with key stakeholders to further our goals.

Person Specification:

We are looking for an individual who embodies the spirit of Long Covid SOS and has:

• Proven experience in a significant leadership role within the charity, public or private sectors.
• Strong understanding of governance and board management, with experience in chairing meetings and committees.

Dougie Mac has over 700 dedicated volunteers that give their time in every department across the hospice including retail, finance, fundraising, gardening, catering and care services. What does being a Dementia Carer Support Group volunteer involve?

• Assisting in the setup of the venue before the session starts
• Welcoming attendees to sessions, helping to provide a warm and welcoming environment without judgement
• Facilitating refreshments such as teas and coffees for carers and people with dementia
• Talking with carers and people with dementia, providing a friendly face and redirecting any queries on dementia support to one of the staff members present
• Be an empathetic and enthusiastic participant in the sessions, making sure that attendees enjoy their time in the groups
• Assist in the taking down of the venue after the session, leaving it clean and presentable

Sibling Support

• Planning sessions with other volunteers

This is an opportunity to join a team making a difference to your local area, supporting the chair and Council members by attending meetings, taking and typing out the minutes, and developing an interest in the environmental impact of government legislation and national companies. There is the opportunity to become more involved with the environmental issues and talking to other interested parties.

Monthly minute secretary to Solent Protection Society (SPS) Council Meetings. Monthly by Zoom and quarterly attending a meeting of full council. Attendance at December AGM and assist with preparing agendas.

This is a voluntary role amounting to a maximum of one day per week. Expenses and honorarium will be paid by agreement.

This is an interesting role for someone interested in protecting all aspects of the environment including safeguarding our seas, rivers and countryside for future generations.

It Gets Better UK envisions a world where all LGBTQ+ youth are free to live equally and know their worthiness and power as individuals. We strive to tell the stories of LGBTQ+ people and to provide positive and reassuring messages to LGBTQ+ youth.

The It Gets Better Project was founded in 2010 in America. Since then, affiliated charities have been formed in over 20 different countries. We are now at the exciting stage of continue to grow and develop the UK affiliate having formally launched in October 2018.

Join our network of Regional Ambassadors to help promote It Gets Better UK, to inspire and engage with members of their local LGBTQ+ communities to get involved, and to help fundraise.

We're particularly looking to fill vacancies for volunteers in Northern Ireland, Wales, and the North of England (North East, North West, Yorkshire and the Humber). If you are not based in these areas but are interested in the role, you are still welcome to apply as the local role exists across the country. 

What will I be doing? 

We ask Regional Ambassadors to deliver four self-led regional actions per year, and to expect to be asked to be involved in more ad-hoc centrally-led actions and activities as these arise. Key activities include: 

• Raise awareness of It Gets Better UK and our work through talking to members of the LGBTQ+ community in your area, and on social media 

• Look after our information and fundraising stands at local events – most importantly, hosting an It Gets Better UK Pride stall in your local area. Members of the It Gets Better team will support you with sign-up admin and capacity on the day. So far, we're planning to attend Edinburgh Pride!

• Support other members of the It Gets Better UK volunteer team to deliver events in their area by adding capacity where possible, and within a distance that suits you – for example, helping out at a Pride stall run by another Ambassador nearby. 

• Deliver talks to local LGBTQ+ groups, community groups, schools etc about the work of It Gets Better UK and how they could help us achieve our goals 

• Inspire members of the LGBTQ+ community to add their own It Gets Better story to our work

• Confident public speaker with excellent communication skills 

• Confident in crowds and talking to new people 

• Excellent organisational skills 

• Reliable and professional demeanour 

• A personal and friendly manner 

• Flexibility to be called upon when needed

What is the time commitment? 

This is a flexible role and the times will vary. Taking into account four self-led regional actions per year and ad-hoc centrally-led actions and activities, we recommend expecting to spend at least two hours a week on your role. We ask Regional Ambassadors to try to be available for Pride events over the summer: this means some half/full day activities over the summer period, usually on Saturdays. You’ll be able to sign up for days which suit you. Regional Ambassadors are appointed for up to two years. Regional Ambassadors will have a monthly online meeting with their It Gets Better UK point of contact. 

 
How will I be trained and supported? 

• You will receive a full induction into It Gets Better UK and to your role 

• You will have a named contact who will support you and answer any questions 

• You will join our international and UK networks of volunteers where you can share ideas, ask questions, and support one another

Where will I be based? 

This role is based within your local area, with some travel at your discretion and with expense reimbursement as pre-agreed.

One25 began in 1995 in response to the unmet needs of women who were street sex-working in Bristol. Over the last 29 years we have learnt much about working with this marginalised group. One25 is still the only organisation specifically for street sex-working women in the city.

From May 2023 – April 2024, we provided vital services for 260 women. Of the women we supported:

• 36 exited street sex work
• 213 were healthier
• 127 were safer
• 104 were connected to the specialist services they needed

We work with some of Bristol’s most marginalised women, supporting them to move from crisis and trauma to independence in the community. Wherever they are in their journeys, we give love and practical support, without judgement or expectation.

Women’s needs have become more complex, so our work is more important than ever. The impact we make as a charity saves lives.

About the role
This is an important time to join the Board as we work to deliver our strategic goals and continue to focus on the positive steps One25 can take to increase and diversify income to sustain our vital work. Being a Trustee is an excellent way to develop your skills and can be a fascinating and rewarding experience.

Our new Trustees will be joining a talented Board, working alongside an inspiring CEO and senior management team, and our dedicated colleagues and volunteers. You will be able to connect with staff and gain insight into our work with the women.

You will attend four two-hour board meetings and four 1.5-hour committee meetings a year, plus two annual away days with our staff team and senior management team. There will be an additional time commitment to review meeting papers which are circulated in advance of board and committee meetings.

This is a voluntary role, and we are able to reimburse expenses.

We are seeking new Trustees for specific roles, but also welcome applications for other areas of skill and expertise:

• Finance expertise (who will succeed our current Treasurer after a period of induction)
• HR expertise (who will also benefit from an induction with our current HR lead)

The Person

You should be a creative thinker with an ability to communicate clearly whilst acting with integrity. You will be able to interpret and understand complex information and have an understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trustees.

Good judgement and understanding of the need for confidentiality, sensitivity and a non-judgemental attitude are paramount for this position. We would be keen to speak to people with expertise and experience in one or more of the following areas:

At Age UK Westminster we run a weekly Information and Advice telephone helpline for our clients, service users and the public. The telephone line remains busy throughout the open hours and we completely rely on the support of our friendly, diverse and dedicated team of Telephone Enquiries and Signposting Volunteers to ensure this vital service continues. 

We are looking to recruit more student volunteers for this role.  As our volunteer, you will be part of the Information and Advice Team, and we will train you in handling telephone enquiries and offering information to callers. All we ask for is a commitment of 4 hours, once a week from 10am to 2pm on any day between Monday and Friday.

Waldorf Learning Foundation - Enriching Minds, Empowering Hearts.

Job summary:  The role involves serving on the committee of WTRRP, supporting the Committee and its Chair in the overall management of the charity.

WTRRP is a registered charity (England, reg no 1162226) that exists to support people in the Watford Borough and Three Rivers District of West Hertfordshire, who do not yet have status in the UK, or who have specific needs related to their application process or welfare. Currently WTRRP has around 160 live cases (defined as a family unit or individual currently in need of our help).

WTRRP is run by a Committee, which includes several Trustees. The Committee meets typically every 2 months and also for an Annual General Meeting, but it also provides day-to-day support to our staff members (Casework Coordinator and part-time Office Manager) and to our ~80 volunteers.

The main roles of the charity are to run a drop-in session every Tuesday (at St Mary’s Church in central Watford), a social hub at the same time, and to provide financial and other assistance to its clients for their application process for leave to remain in the UK.

Principal responsibilities:

• Be part of the committee, supporting the organisation as it grows and develops.

• Support the Chair in meetings, including running occasional meetings where the Chair cannot be present

• Attend the Tuesday hub / drop-in to support both activities as required.

• Listen, encourage and empower our staff and volunteers to provide support to our clients and adapt our services according to our client needs.

• Be aware and report any safeguarding concerns immediately to WTRRP Safeguarding Lead and/or a member of the Committee.

• Represent WTRRP and work constructively as part of a WTRRP team.

Desirable:

• An understanding of immigration matters and keep abreast of safeguarding matters.

• Be able to offer 4-6 hours a week of your time.

• Attend volunteers’ and training meetings.

Skills / experience:

• Experience in management of people, especially volunteers

Volunteer Safeguarding Lead  for Watford and Three Rivers Refugee Partnership (WTRRP)

Job summary:  The Safeguarding Lead will play a crucial role in developing, implementing, and overseeing safeguarding policies and procedures. This individual will work closely with staff, volunteers, and the Committee to promote a safe environment and handle any safeguarding concerns effectively.

WTRRP is a registered charity (England, reg no 1162226) that exists to support people in the Watford Borough and Three Rivers District of West Hertfordshire, who do not yet have status in the UK, or who have specific needs related to their application process or welfare. Currently WTRRP has around 160 live cases (defined as a family unit or individual currently in need of our help).

WTRRP is run by a Committee, which includes several Trustees. The Committee meets typically every 2 months and also for an Annual General Meeting, but it also provides day-to-day support to our staff members (Casework Coordinator and part-time Office Manager) and to our ~80 volunteers.

The main roles of the charity are to run a drop-in session every Tuesday (at St Mary’s Church in central Watford), a social hub at the same time, and to provide financial and other assistance to its clients for their application process for leave to remain in the UK.

Commitment: [ approximately 5 hours per week]

Key Responsibilities:

Policy Development: Develop and regularly review safeguarding policies and procedures to ensure they are up-to-date and compliant with legal and best practice standards.

Training: Organize safeguarding training sessions for staff and volunteers and review exisiting training.

Support: Provide guidance and support to staff and volunteers on safeguarding matters, including responding to concerns and allegations.

Monitoring: Monitor the implementation of safeguarding policies and practices across the organization.

Reporting: Maintain accurate records of safeguarding concerns and incidents, and ensure timely reporting to relevant authorities and stakeholders.

Review: Conduct regular reviews of safeguarding practices and make recommendations for improvements.

Key Requirements:

Experience: Prior experience in safeguarding, child protection, or a related field is preferred. Experience in a leadership or advisory role is advantageous.

Knowledge: Strong understanding of safeguarding legislation and best practices. Knowledge of working with vulnerable individuals is essential.

Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and professionalism.

Commitment: A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people, and vulnerable adults.  The role will require approximately 5 hours per week.

Qualifications: Relevant qualifications in safeguarding, child protection, or related areas are desirable. Training in safeguarding is a plus.
