Job description

Volunteers retail assistant need to help with the general merchandising of stock and to serve customers in a polite and pleasant manner. The aim is to give a enjoyable shopping experience.

What’s involved?

  • To interact with the public in a friendly, polite and efficient manner.
  • To liaise with shop staff and take instruction.
  • To accept donations as well as following the gift aid procedure.
  • To sort through donations.
  • To price and merchandise stock.
  • Steam clothes as required.
  • To serve customers using a cash register, including giving correct change.
  • To help keep the shop areas clean and tidy.
  • Report any complaints or problems to the shop manager.

This role will suit people who:

Have a friendly and enthusiastic manner and enjoy Volunteering.  This role can sometimes be physically demanding, and you may be on your feet all day.  

General:

·                To act responsibly at all times ensuring that any actions do not bring the Hospice into disrepute

·                To contribute to the team working and efficient functioning of the Hospice

·                To ensure compliance with the Hospice policies and procedures and have regard for the employees obligations under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, reporting all mishaps/accidents as and when they occur to the Community Engagement Lead

·                Report any equipment shortages and/or electrical faults to the Community Engagement Lead

·                To attend mandatory training sessions as required and demonstrate awareness of the correct procedure to be undertaken in the event of a fire

·                To attend and participate in such meetings and events as may be reasonably required

A full Disclosure Barring Services (DBS) check is required for this role
