We are at an exciting stage in our growth and are looking for passionate, motivated individuals to join our Trustee Board and help increase our impact and ensure digital inclusion for all.

You will be able to dedicate a minimum of 3 hours a month to Community TechAid work, and be available for in person quarterly meetings in London. Ideally you will have experience in HR or business development and have a connection to our south London community.

BRANCH TRUSTEE – MARKETING AND SOCIAL MEDIA

Overview of the Branch Trustee opportunity

We are looking for an enthusiastic and passionate person, with a background in marketing and social media, who could devote their time to volunteer as a trustee for our RSPCA Preston & District Branch and support us in boosting our campaigns online. 

Alongside passing on your expertise, this opportunity will give you the chance to influence how we care for and prevent cruelty to animals and drive the implementation of key initiatives. You will serve on the governing body of the charity and be instrumental, alongside fellow trustees, in the running of the Branch and setting out both the short and long term aims.

As a minimum, trustees would normally be expected to attend a bi-monthly committee meeting lasting around 2 to 3 hours (virtual meetings are an option). However, the commitment may vary depending on your availability,  and if  you decide to take on additional duties.

Trustee do not need to live within the branch boundaries but occasional travel to Branch sites may be required from time to time.

About the RSPCA Preston & District Branch

Over 80% of the animal welfare work of the RSPCA is carried out through local Branches which are run by staff and volunteers, supported by the RSPCA National Society.

Preston & District Branch has been affiliated with the National RSPCA for 150 years!

A separately registered charity looking after animals in the local area and engaging with the local community. 

Our mission is to seek out safe homes for abandoned, neglected or abused animals who are  nursed back to health, rehabilitated and found forever loving homes.

Preston & District Branch is part of a network of 140  branches, and 1 of only 8 in the North of England with an animal centre. 

The rehoming centre is within the Preston area (close to JCN 31 of the M6). 

RSPCA Preston & District Branch is a well established Branch with approximately 20 members of staff and 75 volunteers across 4 locations and raises all its funds locally through supporters and other income streams.

To continue helping animals in need the Branch also operates 3 charity shops in Longridge, Chorley and Penwortham (within our specified branch area) which bring in a regular income to keep our animal centre open. 

Primary responsibilities of the Branch Trustee – Marketing and Social Media

• Take the lead in assisting the Branch to generate and develop social media strategies to maximise the promotion of animal welfare, rehoming campaigns, fundraising opportunities, and engagement with local supporters.
• Support the Branch in using social media effectively and working within the social media strategy. 
• Support the Branch in ensuring any social media or marketing content is in line with RSPCA brand guidelines. 
• Responsible for feeding back key insights and performance markers to the rest of the committee at board meetings. 
• Support the Branch in promoting animal welfare campaigns and events using various digital media platforms.

Core Branch Trustee responsibilities

• Appreciate and support the aims and policies of the RSPCA.
• Work in conjunction with fellow trustees and branch officers and jointly act in making decisions for the best interest of the branch and the RSPCA. 
• Work with national RSPCA staff to ensure that the branch meets all minimum animal welfare standards (MAWS).
• In conjunction with your fellow trustees and Branch Partnership Manager write, adopt, monitor, and review a development plan setting out the short and long term aims of your branch.
• Actively participate in branch committee meetings and to attend the branch annual general meeting and regional conference.
• Be aware of the outcome of regional board meetings and support regional initiatives.
• Actively promote and advertise the society in an ongoing programme to recruit new branch trustees and volunteers and welcome new members.
• In conjunction with your fellow trustees, ensure the proper management and control of all activities and decisions relating to any premises held or staff employed by the branch if applicable.

What we are looking for in a volunteer:

• Ideally you would have some level of knowledge in the following areas- finance, legal, fundraising, project management, business experience, awareness of employment and/or charity legislation. These all can be useful to help ensure we have a sound and robust business model and long term strategic development plan, however, they are not essential.
• We are looking for people who are creative, innovative, who have experience of or are part of groups and communities we want to attract, who can bring new ideas, different experiences and fresh perspectives to the board and to help put those ideas into action.

We are looking for a new treasurer for our Board of Trustees to work with us and support us through this next exciting phase of our journey.

Role Overview:
As a Trustee at The Hepatitis C Trust with a focus on the Treasurer role, you will play a vital part in ensuring the financial stability and integrity of The Hepatitis C Trust. You will work closely with the Board of Trustees and the Chief Executive to oversee the financial management of the charity, providing strategic guidance and ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

1. Strategic

· To assist and advise in the formation of the Charity’s strategy with particular regard to ensuring that the Charity has the resources to deliver the strategy.

· Ensure all strategic plans are financially appraised and budgets are aligned to both short-term and long-term objectives each year.

2  Financial Oversight

· To ensure that the Board receives appropriate budgetary and financial information on the activities of the charity including Annual Accounts

· To ensure that all accounts are prepared and disclosed in the form required by funders and the relevant statutory bodies

· To work with the CEO in  the appointment of auditors and review on a regular basis.

· To work in close partnership with the CEO in executing their responsibilities and achieving their goals.

3 Assets and Investments

· To ensure that the Charity has an appropriate investment policy

· To ensure that the Charity monitors the performance of its investments and to set a appropriate reserves policy

· To ensure that all equipment and assets are adequately maintained and accounted for.

· Ensuring that there is no conflict between any investment held and the aims and objects of the charity

· Monitoring the organisation’s investment activity and ensuring it is consistent with the organisation’s policies and legal responsibilities

4. Governance

· To ensure that the Board is aware of its financial duties and responsibilities and the need to comply with all legislation

· To ensure that all financial policies, procedures and the appointment of external financial advisors are reviewed on a regular basis

· Ensure financial reports to the trustees are comprehensible and properly discussed

· To ensure that the Board’s scheme of delegation is reviewed on a regular basis

· To act as Chair of the Finance and Governance sub-committee of the Board

 Person Specification

· Qualified accountant with demonstration of not-for-profit awareness and knowledge

· Competent IT skills, with working knowledge of QuickBooks (or similar accounting software)

· Proven ability to communicate and explain financial information to members of the board and other stakeholders

· Understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship, and the Treasurer role in particular

· The Treasurer will be expected to visit the charity office at least once every two/three months to meet with the CEO.

· The Treasurer will set up and Chair the Finance Sub-Committee which we anticipate will meet 3 times a year.

Location

Board meetings are conducted at either the Charity office (SE1 3QG) usually once a year or virtually, by prior agreement.

Trustee general responsibilities

In addition to the responsibilities outlined above, the Treasurer as a Trustee has the following general responsibilities:

· Contribute actively to the Board of Trustees' role in giving strategic direction to the charity, setting overall strategy and policy, setting targets and evaluating performance against agreed targets;

· Ensure the financial stability of the organisation and the proper investment of the Charity's funds;

· Ensure the Charity applies its resources exclusively in pursuing its objectives;

· Ensure the effective and efficient administration of the Charity;

· Safeguard the good name and values of the Charity;

· Declare any conflict of interest while carrying out the duties of a Trustee;

· Be collectively responsible for the actions of the Charity and other Trustees;

· Participate in other tasks as arise from time to time, such as interviewing new staff, helping with fundraising;

· Attend meetings and subcommittee meetings as appropriate and read papers in preparation for the meeting;

· Keep informed about the activities of the charity and wider issues which affect its work.

We Are Family is hiring! We have an exciting role within our adopter peer support community to join us as our Chair of Trustees. 

We are looking for a new Chair of Trustees with a strong understanding of the challenges facing adoptive parents and who shares our commitment to supporting adopters and prospective adopters throughout their adoption journey. Ideal candidates will have strong governance knowledge, the capacity to think strategically, work collaboratively and lead the Trustees in making significant contributions to our future.

You will join the Board as the organisation heads into its second decade, with established services, partnerships and a growing membership base. Commitments from trustees and from the hospice

Trustees are expected to attend, in person or via tele-conferencing:

• Sessions agreed as part of each trustee’s personalised induction programme.

• Bi-monthly board meetings.

• Approximately two board away days per year, dedicated to strategic planning.

Where they are willing and able, trustees may be asked to join one of the board sub-committees.

Whilst this is an unpaid, voluntary role, out-of-pocket expenses will be reimbursed. A personalised induction programme, training, support and mentorship will be provided.

University Hospitals Birmingham (UHB) Charity supports four hospitals (and additional community services) that are operated by University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Since 2010 the Charity has spent over £60 million funding equipment, facilities, research and patient welfare. The Chair provides leadership to the Board with prime responsibility for ensuring it has agreed priorities, appropriate structures, processes and a productive culture and has Trustees and senior staff who are able to govern well and add value to the Charity.

Are you passionate about animal welfare? We are looking for an enthusiastic person who understands charity finance to support us in our mission to prevent cruelty, promote kindness and alleviate the suffering of animals.

We have a Rehoming Centre from which we rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming of cats, rabbits, small animals and poultry. We also run three charity shops to help support those activities

We are looking for someone to volunteer as a Branch Treasurer for our West Dorset Branch. This role would play a vital role in supporting the Branches affairs so that it is governed and managed effectively, whilst continually having animal welfare at the forefront of their mind.

As a minimum, trustees would normally be expected to attend a monthly committee meeting lasting some 2 to 3 hours. However, the commitment may vary depending on whether or not the trustee takes on additional duties.

Primary responsibilities of the Branch Treasurer

• Implement and maintain sound financial systems.
• Take a lead role in ensuring the committee set annual financial budgets and plan the branch income and expenditure.
• Provide a written financial report for every branch meeting.
• Liaise with auditors/independent examiners regarding the production of the annual branch accounts and the treasurer’s report.
•  Maintain control of all bank accounts as authorised by the committee.
• Execute and operate branch committee financial decisions and act as branch co-signatory.
• Maintain control over all branch paying-in books and receipt books and to ensure their correct use.
• In the absence of a branch box secretary, to assume responsibility for the branch network of collection boxes.
• Arrange payment of the annual branch contribution to the appropriate RSPCA fund.
• Coordinate financial control of all branch fundraising activities.
• Make quarterly VAT returns to headquarters promptly.
• Ensure the production, monitoring and annual review of the branch’s financial risk management strategy in accordance with the charity commission’s requirements.
• Liaise with branch officers, branch support specialist and Branch finance co-ordinator on Financial affairs as necessary and alert them immediately to any possible difficulties or irregularities.
• Ensure the retention and safekeeping of all branch financial documentation for the appropriate time as set by the charity commission.

 What we are looking for in a volunteer:

• We are particularly looking for someone who has knowledge and experience in finance, who may already understand charity finance.
• As a trustee, you would be able to dedicate the time to attend monthly committee meetings, which last approximately 3 hours.
• In between meetings, there will be additional volunteer duties such as; providing financial reports at committee meetings, monitoring the budget which has been set by the trustees for the year,  processing payments, querying invoices, doing VAT returns, and processing Gift Aid claims.

We are currently seeking two new trustees to join our board. The Board of Trustees is responsible for the governance of the charity, setting and overseeing its strategy. They ensure the organisation is run effectively and that its activities and outcomes are properly accounted for. We welcome applications from both members and non-members of the organisation.

Main responsibilities 

1. Developing and reviewing strategic aims consider the Region as a whole, including its trading operations, and its members:

About the board and Trustee role 

Trustees are volunteers who oversee the strategic direction of the charity and ensure its compliance with regulators and the law. They are also ambassadors for the charity; and they provide the staff team, which does the day-to-day work, with both scrutiny and support. 

The full board meets quarterly. Two meetings focus on ‘business’ – approving budgets and policies, making key decisions, etc. The other two are more discursive, covering strategic issues. 

We have four sub-committees: Finance Audit Investment & Risk, Impact & Income Development, Research & Policy, and Governance & People. Trustees are generally invited to sit on at least one sub-committee, which gives them more detailed insight into the charity’s work in that area. A number of trustees choose to sit on multiple sub-committees (there is no upper limit) and trustees are also welcome to attend any sub-committee, for example as a one-off, to see what happens or if they have an interest in a particular agenda item. Sub-committees also meet quarterly. 

And there is usually one strategy day a year. 

We currently have ten trustees on our board, with skills and experience in charity leadership and governance, addictions psychiatry, academic research, public affairs, policing, and marketing. We are looking to a recruit a further one trustee.

Trustees’ Role Description and Person Specification 

Being a Trustee of Alcohol Change UK 

Our Board of Trustees has overall responsibility for the UK’s leading charity in the field of alcohol harm. We are a registered charity (No. 1140287) and a company limited by guarantee (No. 07462605). Our trustees are also members of the charity and directors of the company. Governance is in accordance with both charity and company law. This role description uses the term ‘trustee’ to refer to all three roles (trustee, member, director). 

As well as overseeing proper governance, the Board is responsible for strategic decision-making, upholding the reputation of the charity and ensuring that it delivers on its charitable object to reduce alcohol harm. As a trustee you will share this collective responsibility and bring your personal skills, experience and connections to bear.

This is an exciting time for the charity as we are in the first year of our newly approved five-year strategy from Apr 2024 to Mar 2029. Our new trustees will play a key role in helping us deliver on this strategy. 

The Duties and Responsibilities of Trustees 

Governing Documents 

Our primary governing document is the Memorandum and Articles of Association which sets out the formal duties and responsibilities of the trustees, directors and members. It is complemented by our Scheme of Delegation. We have also adopted the Code of Good Governance, and remain compliant with the rules of the Charity Commissioners and Companies House. 

General Duties and Responsibilities 

The following are general duties, based on documentation from the Charity Commission and Companies House: 

1. To act in the interests of the charity’s objects – that is, its cause and its beneficiaries. 
2. To act reasonably and prudently in all matters. 
3. To avoid personal views and prejudices affecting your decision-making. 
4. To protect – and actively promote – the property, interests and reputation of the charity. 
5. To set the strategic direction, provide strategic oversight, and make critical decisions. 
6. To always make decisions collectively as a board and in particular to actively support all board decisions (that are made in accordance with the charity’s constitution) regardless of your personal position on such decisions. 
7. To understand how the charity works, including being fully aware of the charity’s general risks and its financial position. 
8. To ensure compliance with all statutory requirements as set out by Companies House and the Charity Commission and by other relevant statutory bodies and legislation. 
9. To challenge and support the CEO and, through them, the broader staff team. 

Additional Duties and Responsibilities 

The following additional duties and responsibilities have been adopted by Alcohol Change UK: 

1. To abide by Alcohol Change UK’s policies, such as those on equal opportunities, health and safety, safeguarding, code of conduct, conflicts of interest, GDPR, etc. 
2. To endeavour to achieve at least 75% attendance at Board meetings. In accordance with the governing documents, trustees missing three consecutive board meetings without reasonable cause will normally be asked to step down. 
3. To undertake training as required and to participate in an annual development appraisal. 
4. To join at least one of the charity’s four sub-committees. 
5. To represent Alcohol Change UK at events and to act as a positive ambassador for Alcohol Change UK amongst its key audiences. 
6. To understand and respect the boundary between governance and the operational matters that are delegated to the staff team. 
7. To respond to Alcohol Change UK correspondence in a timely manner.

Mary Ward Settlement was founded in 1895, and today is a multi-service charity that focuses on empowering people to enrich and transform their lives by offering inclusive education opportunities, legal advice, and community support services. Advancing equality and diversity remains at the heart of Mary Ward Settlement, born from its inception in the Settler’s Movement, and our founder Mary Ward’s vision of ‘equalisation’ for adult learning to open up educational opportunities for all. In 2018 we merged with Blackfriars Settlement, sharing a common vision and foundation, which has strengthened our offering to the communities we support in London. 

We deliver our services from our newly opened, purpose-built  Mary Ward Centre, and from Blackfriars Settlement in Southwark. It's an exciting time for Mary Ward as we now look forward to fully utilising both our new facility and increased outreach as focal points in our communities.

About the role 

The Board of Trustees is an integrated Board, offering strategic oversight and professional expertise across the three charities that make up Mary Ward. The Chair of Mary Ward is more than a conduit between our Board of Trustees and our Senior Management team. The Chair orchestrates support from our trustees which recognises skills and experience, provides guidance and challenge to the management team, and is a visible connector, champion, and leader of our inclusive and warm culture. Our organisation is inquisitive and reflective, excited about learning, committed to community, and our Chair helps us reflect this passion across the group and to our wider community.

Requirements/Person Specification

• Working knowledge of good governance principles 
• Strong interpersonal skills grounded in supportive and positive values
• Strong leadership skills including those of diplomacy, influence, and mediating
• General business senior management experience which includes financial understanding, staff management, operational efficiency and effectiveness
• Commitment to a truly inclusive organisation, understanding equality, diversity, and inclusion has a wide application to reach all of our communities we serve.

YMCA Lincolnshire is seeking new Trustees to join us in bringing energy, enthusiasm, wise governance and strategic guidance to maximise our reach and impact on people's lives and communities. We are passionate about the causes we support, we are an ambitious team and we operate within an equitable, open and engaging culture. We hold bi-monthly Board meetings in Lincoln, which we ask Trustees to attend in-person. As well as some other training and Sprint events taking place in-person. Other tasks such as reading Board papers can be done remotely. 

Help us make people’s experience of homeless temporary accommodation short, safe and healthy.

The Treasurer will support the Board to oversee the financial matters of the charity in line with good practice, the

Constitution and legal requirements, and report to the Board at regular intervals about the financial position of the charity.

The Treasurer will ensure that effective financial measures, controls and procedures are put in place and are appropriate

for the charity. (Despite this all trustees are jointly and severally responsible for the administration of the charity).

Main responsibilities:

• To support the Board to oversee and to ensure appropriate presentation of budgets, accounts, management accounts and financial statements.
• To ensure appropriate presentation of accounts and records, ensuring that financial resources are spent in accordance with the charity’s policies, good governance, legal and regulatory requirements.

Main duties:

• Liaising, where applicable with the CEO (or other appropriate member of staff).
• Supporting the Board to monitor the financial viability of the charity.
• Creating in conjunction with relevant senior staff sound financial instruments for the control of charity assets.
• Ensuring that staff create sound financial instruments for the control of charity assets.
• Advising on the financial implications of the charity’s Strategic Plan.
• Ensuring that the annual accounts are compliant with the current charities’ SORP.
• Ensuring close working relationships with the internal audit team and Committees of the Board.
• Ensuring that sound financial management is maintained and ensuring expenditure is in line with the charity’s objects.
• Acting as a counter signatory on charity cheques and any applications and receipts of funding (if necessary or mandated).
