The role

Being a Trustee
IRMO’s Board of Trustees is made up of six to nine Trustees, who work together to ensure the charity is run properly. As a trustee, you will have the opportunity to support IRMO’s strategic development and oversee its finances. Trustees meet every two months (usually online in the evening) and are asked to commit an additional eight to ten hours between meetings to follow up on actions and provide advice and input on strategic documents and areas of work relevant to their areas of expertise.
General Responsibilities
- Stay up to date with and assess the political, economic and social contexts that affect IRMO’s work
- Support the development of and approve IRMO’s key strategic documents
- Annually review and approve IRMO’s budget
- Review, update and approve major policies
- Approve salaries, benefits, terms and conditions for staff
- Ensure that IRMO’s financial structure is adequate for its current needs and long-term strategy
- Ensure that the organisation has the necessary resources in place to meet its long-term goals
- Ensure that the Board of Trustees is adequately informed of the condition of the organisation and its operations
- Ensure that published reports adequately reflect the nature of the services and the financial condition of the organisation
- Approve major actions of the organisation, such as capital expenditure over authorised limits and major changes in activities and services
- Review staff results in relation to IRMO’s aims and objectives, as well as annual and long-term goals
- Appoint, supervise, support, and appraise IRMO’s Director
- Provide candid and constructive criticism, advice, comments and praise
- Ensure that the Director has established appropriate policies to define and identify conflicts of interest throughout the organisation and are administering and enforcing those policies
- Appoint independent examiners/auditors subject to approval by members
- Ensure compliance with relevant legislation affecting the organisation
- Annually review the performance of the Board of Trustees and take steps to improve its performance

The Barbara Bus Fund is recruiting for a new Chairperson.
The Barbara Bus Fund is a registered charity, which was set up in 1968 to help people who cannot get out or use public transport or an ordinary car, because they have a disability that necessitates full-time use of a wheelchair.
Today the BBF operates a fleet of 16 specially converted vehicles from Stanmore, Aylesbury and North Wales. The BBF is operated by a combination of paid and volunteer staff with head office at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore.
The role of Chair is a voluntary position with the requirement to commit to one to two days per month, attend online meetings every 6-8 weeks and the AGM. The Chair will lead the Board of Trustees, chair committee meetings and the AGM.
Previous trustee / charity experience is required and the commitment to Nolan’s seven principles of public life: selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty and leadership. Previous experience within the health / care / transport sectors will be a distinct advantage however, other relevant experience and the right attributes will also be considered.

The Pelvic Radiation Disease Association (PRDA) is looking for a Chair of Trustees to provide strategic leadership for the charity, working in partnership with our Operations Manager and supported by a committed team of Trustees.
Who we are
Pelvic Radiation Disease (PRD) is a long-term side-effect (‘late effect’) of pelvic radiotherapy treatment affecting an estimated 100,000 people in the UK. People affected by PRD often have a complex set of symptoms affecting the bowel, bladder, sexual function or other functions for many years after radiotherapy, sometimes only appearing several years after radiotherapy treatment
PRDA is a small UK charity whose objectives are to see that the effects of PRD are minimised, that people affected by PRD are given the best possible care and treatment, and that PRD is accepted as a serious problem and given the attention it deserves.
Duties of the Chair
In addition to the duties of a Trustee, the Chair will:
- Provide strategic leadership to the charity and the Board, ensuring that PRDA achieves its mission.
- Work in partnership with the Operations Manager and team to achieve our mission.
- Lead the board in ensuring that it fulfils its responsibilities for the governance of the organisation.
- Optimise the relationship between the board and PRDA’s staff and volunteers.
- Plan and chair the board meetings and the AGM, with others as appropriate.
- Act as a spokesperson and figurehead for PRDA.

Job description
Introduction to the role:
The Chair of Trustees will provide leadership and direction to the Board of Trustees and centre staff ensuring that the governance and strategic direction of the charity is being fulfilled. The Chair will support and sometimes challenge the team and ensure the Board functions as a unit and works closely with the wider team to achieve our aim to continue to be an exceptionally well run and sustainable organisation so that we can make the greatest practical impact for people managing their lives with MS.
Key Responsibilities:

Leadership and Governance
-
Provide leadership to the charity and team ensuring the charity has the maximum impact for members and users and follows the vision/missions stated in the Strategic Plan.

Ensure the Board and Staff fulfil their obligations, duties and responsibilities for the effective governance of the charity.

Ensue the Board operates within the charities objectives as stipulated within the Articles of Association.

Lead the Board and ensure it operates as a team, engaging all Trustees and fostering a culture of open discussion and debate.

Ensure the operation of the centre is realised and systems are in place to manage and mitigate risks
-
Chair bi-monthly Board Meetings and other meetings such as Finance and Health and Safety where appropriate.

Act as the support mechanism and critical friend for the Centre Manager and team for operational and strategic queries.

Work with Trustees and the Centre Manager to recruit and appoint new Trustees and staff and ensure they receive induction, training and support.

Undertake an annual appraisal for the Centre Manager.

Perform annual remuneration reviews in consultation with the Board.

External Duties

Act as an ambassador for and represent the charity at external meetings, events and functions.

Build strong relationships with other MS charities, local charitable organisations, funding partners and key stakeholders.

Strategy and Planning

Lead the Trustees in developing, agreeing and implementing the Strategic Plan.

Ensue the plan is robust and regularly reviewed and/or amended.

Work with the Centre Manager to agree priorities aligned with the Strategic Plan.

Support the team in the absence of the Centre Manager and offer advice and guidance where applicable.

Essential:

Experience of working at a leadership level within a charity or organisation.

Experience of charity governance and working as a Trustee.

Commitment to the charity, its missions and values and drive and energy to implement positive change.

Strong leadership, motivational, interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.

Great communicator and able to effectively write reports and chair meetings.

Understanding of legal requirements for the charity and liabilities of being a Trustee.

Located within Sussex or commuting distance from the centre.

Additional Information:

The position requires between 10 - 15 hours per calendar month with regular duties including chairing board and sub-committee meetings, ad hoc visits to the Centre, supporting the Centre Manager and training.

Board meetings are preferably in person but can be via zoom if required.

The position is voluntary and as such not remunerated however reasonable expenses incurred in the course of duties will be reimbursed.

Who are Dance Professionals Fund?
Dance Professionals Fund is an award-winning registered charity providing financial and wellbeing support to dancers, dance teachers and choreographers. Our dedicated services bring together a range of effective ways of supporting dance professionals, including financial grants, signposting to support services, rehabilitation, career upskilling support and access to professional counselling. Dance professionals will receive unbiased support from us whatever their situation.
Role Description
We are seeking several trustees to join us from mid-January 2025 for an initial term of three years. We are looking for a range of skills and experience, including:

Salary
All Trustee roles are voluntary. We will cover the travel costs of attending in-person meetings, and other costs such as childcare when required.

Dance Professionals Fund is based at The Dance Space, 2 Market Square, Circus Street, Brighton BN2 9AS.
Board meetings are held four times a year in central London in accessible locations. Committee meetings dates are in line with each Committee’s remit and are held in person or online.
