Summary of the role:

As the Business Development specialist, you will be taking on a leadership role in the organisations plans for seeking growth in new markets through institutional relationships. These include (but are not limited to): the Middle East (Qatar, UAE, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait), Canada, and Europe. This is a senior technical position that performs a variety of complex business development work across the organisation.

About the Role:

1. Develop donor and new market engagement strategies and associated implementation plans
2. Engage internal and external senior stakeholders, influencing as needed to ensure that your team can maximise all opportunities.
3. Engage, build and manage relationships with targeted donors in new selected markets. Coordinate efforts with other team members responsible for income generation from Trusts and Foundations, corporate donors, and high-net worth donors.
4. Lead a comprehensive donor scoping and mapping exercise for donors in targeted new market. Continuously, update this mapping document based on engagement with prospective donors.
5. Identify and track relevant upcoming funding opportunities – through advance intelligence gathering, partner relationships, and other available resources
6. Provide grant management oversight on portfolio of grants funded by new Market donors and serve as primarily focal point for donor communications. 

About You:

To be successful in this role you will need:

1. Postgraduate degree in international development, sustainable livelihoods, humanitarianism, programme management, or equivalent.
2. Understanding of development programmes design, implementation and evaluation.
3. Knowledge of overseas markets and/or experience of successfully fundraising in a different market to the UK. Experience with Middle Eastern Donors is highly desirable.
4. Experience of successfully fundraising and dealing with institutional donors and international donors, with a focus on Trusts and Foundations.
5. Excellent technical skills in writing, editing, formatting, research, negotiation, and verbal communications.
6. Excellent networking and influencing skills, both internal and external. Specifically experience of supporting cultural change within an organisation, influencing sideways and upwards to gain buy in and active support from senior staff as needed.

You will have significant experience of working with vulnerable people and doing so in in partnership with a range of stakeholders. Being able to manage multiple projects, including budgets; build the capacity of others and be effective and proactive in communicating are all key. An understanding, and appreciation of, God’s call to serve the poor is essential as is being comfortable in talking about Christian faith and theology.

We are seeking a proactive and detailed Grants Manager to support our development team on the journey to further Cardboard Citizens’ ambitions as a dynamic, flexible and forward-thinking social justice charity and theatre company, working with people who have experience of homelessness and poverty or inequity.

Our organisation secures over £1m in voluntary funding each year and our Grants Manager will play a vital role in securing and growing the broad range of voluntary support which allows to make exceptional art for social change. You will manage a rich portfolio of existing funder relationships across Trusts & Foundations, Corporate and Statutory income streams, in addition to researching and writing applications for new funding and working closely with the Delivery team on impact monitoring and reporting. Pension: Cardboard Citizens offers a 6% employer contribution pension scheme and complies with the employer pension duties concerning pensions auto-enrolment in accordance with Part 1 of the Pensions Act 2008.
Hours: Full Time/ 37.5 hours per week (some weekends and evenings required). Cardboard Citizens is currently trailing a 4.5 day working week to improve team wellbeing for all full-time staff who pass probation. We also encourage flexible working where possible as part of enabling increased autonomy at work.
Holiday: 25 days plus statutory public holidays pro- rata.
Place of work: Hoxton Works, 128 Hoxton Street, London N1 6SH. Hybrid working is also an option, we are currently working on average 50% from home.                 
Notice Period: Two weeks during probation period, and two months once confirmed in post
