Sutton Mental Health Foundation is looking to recruit a volunteer secretary position to the Trust Board, to support and assist the Chair and CEO. This is an important and confidential role within the Trust. The main areas of the role are, in consultation with the Chair and CEO, the preparation of all Board/AGM meetings, the preparation of Board/AGM papers, minute taking and writing up the minutes in a timely manner. We are looking for a confident, friendly, organised person to join Citizens Advice Test Valley. We are looking for new trustees to work at Citizens Advice Test Valley. We are a well-established charity - we work hard as team to help the community of Test Valley and are supported by a small team of trustees.
Trustees are volunteers who are expected to use their skills, knowledge and experience to help guide and govern. They work with the Chief Officer and other staff to shape strategy and give direction.
This includes making sure that their local Citizens Advice is:
- Doing what it was set-up to do, such as offering high quality advice services to the local community.
- Complying with the law, including upkeep of premises, insurance, recruitment and equipment.
- Securing money to meet current and new demands, and that all funds are used responsibly.
- Recognised and valued by local organisations, funders and people, who are aware of the vital service their local Citizens Advice provides.
Attendance at regular meetings is expected by all trustees. Sometimes trustees will get involved in additional governance projects, such as supporting fundraising, developing strategy or overseeing HR procedures.
Within a board, some trustees will have a specific role, such as being the Chair, Treasurer or Secretary. These positions have defined responsibilities, such as chairing and facilitating meetings (Chair), overseeing the budget (Treasurer) and taking and circulating minutes (Secretary).
No specific qualifications are required to be a trustee. We welcome people of all ages, backgrounds and experience who are passionate about advice services and can bring innovative ideas, unique perspectives and good judgement.
Your time commitment will be about 4 hours every month undertaking trustee business.
Most trustee boards meet in the evenings to allow people to fit around full-time employment or studying. However, outside of meetings, trustees may be required to give additional support, such as working with members of staff on key projects (such as budgeting, recruitment or communications).

We are looking for talented individuals to join the Board of Trustees at the Ecology Centre; an inclusive, community-led charity in Kinghorn, Fife that connects people with nature for the benefit of both.
Along with our existing, dedicated Board of Trustees, you will help to drive the present and future of the charity to achieve its mission.
This is a voluntary role and, though we ask that Board members are able to devote approximately 3-5 hours per week to the charity’s work, we work in a respectful environment that is scalable to your individual circumstances.

With the Chair and other Board members, these new trustees will be responsible for the direction, management, and control of Phoenix Futures through involvement with strategy formulation and monitoring, risk management and internal control.
Who we are looking for.
Ideally you will come with an understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities, and liabilities of trusteeship, along with specific professional knowledge, experience, and skills in clinical governance or finance. A background in either health, criminal justice, social care, or civil service, although not essential. Willingness to devote time, enthusiasm and effort to the duties and responsibilities of a trustee will be crucial.

YOUR COMMITMENT
Whilst the Trustee Board meets for formal meetings 6 times a year, successful candidates will be expected to contribute to the organisation more widely, taking part in fundraisers, external events, strategic planning and advising the staff team when needed. The average contribution expected of Trustees is around one hour a week.
Work-related travel costs will be reimbursed.

We have been supporting families in West Berkshire since 1997 using a volunteer model that allows us to reach families with children under five at what can be a difficult and stressful time. What we do.
We provide support for families with children aged 0 to 5 who may be facing physical or emotional issues and who are finding the challenge of bringing up young children overwhelming. By offering support to families through their toughest times we ensure that parents have the support they need to give their children the best start in life. Home-Start’s ethos is to empower and enable, allowing families to develop self-resilience and confidence in their ability to cope with challenging situations and integrate more within their own communities.
How We Do It.
Using a volunteer led model, we provide support to parents through home visits, family and post natal depression groups and a baby bank. A nurturing and caring culture is central to our work. Our volunteers are invited in to their homes by families, building empathy and trust to help provide community centred, accessible, non-judgmental relational support. We believe that engaging and embracing a broad spectrum of diverse lived experience is fundamental to our shared learning experience. Our trustees, staff and volunteers are committed to living and learning the values and behaviours which best facilitate this approach.
The commitment.
Our board of trustees meets four times each year with at least one additional date set aside for strategy review and development. Trustees are alo encouraged to spend time getting to know other Trustees, staff and volunteers, hearing from those who use our services and learning from each other. We are a comparatively small charity and whilst we will not ask you to get involved in the day to day running of our of the Charity we are looking for people who are prepared to spend time supporting some of the aspects of the Charity where you may have skills or experience, or a particular interest.
The responsibility.
The duties of a trustee are to:
• ensure that the Charity pursues its stated objects (purposes), as defined in its governing document, by developing and agreeing a long-term strategy and that it complies with its legal and regulatory obligations
• ensure that the Charity spends its funding carrying out its charitable objects for the benefit of the public
• ensure that the Charity defines its goals and evaluates performance against agreed targets
• safeguard the good name and values of the organisation
• ensure the effective and efficient administration of the Charity including having appropriate policies and procedures in place
• ensure the financial stability and sustainability of the Charity
• protect and manage the property of the Charity and ensure the proper investment of the Charity’s funds; and
• put in place and monitor arrangements for the appointment, supervision, support, appraisal and remuneration of the Charity’s Executive Director.
In addition to the above statutory duties, trustees are expected to use any specific skills, knowledge or experience they have to help the board of trustees reach sound decisions. This may involve scrutinising board papers, leading discussions, focusing on key issues, providing advice and guidance on new initiatives, or other issues in which the trustee has special expertise.
Person specification
You will join a committed Board of Trustees to further the breadth of experience that we currently have. Specific skills and experiences that we are looking for includes:
Expertise in fundraising, marketing or events management, which may have been in the charitable sector but could also come from a commercial environment
Experience of Home-Start’s work in supporting familities, which may as a family member who we have supported, a commissioner of our services, or a former staff member or volunteer
A background in people management and development to support the ongoing development of our staff (8 part time) and our volunteers (60)
Experience in legal, governance or business management In the commercial or charitable sector.
You will also need to demonstrate:

- Attend fortnightly board meetings and contribute actively to discussions during the setup phase. Meetings will transition to quarterly once the setup phase is complete.
- Provide guidance and oversight on the organisation's strategic direction.
- Review and approve budgets, financial reports, and fundraising plans.
- Support the fundraising efforts of the organisation.
- Act as an ambassador for the organisation and promote its mission and values.
Skills and Experience:
We are looking for individuals with a passion for social impact and a commitment to our cause. Ideal candidates will have expertise in one or more of the following areas:
- Housing or homelessness support
- Fundraising and financial management
- Legal or governance
- Marketing and communications
- Youth development

Help Close By is a charity which uses technology to fight poverty - connecting people with vital support in their area. Founded in Birmingham in 2020 to coordinate relief efforts during the pandemic, we've developed with focus on identifying people in need, supporting them and connecting them to services that will make a lasting change to their lives. Our next step is to roll out our app national-wide, and to encourage change with the reporting of real-time mapping and statistics.
Our Secretary of the Board of Trustees will support the organisation as it develops, ensuring oversight and scrutiny of vital decisions. Tasks will include keeping minutes, managing communication between the board and volunteer teams, and preparing all necessary documentation for the Charity Commission.
