What we’re looking for
We’re looking for 1-3 new Trustees to strengthen the board of Bradford District Community Foundation. You’ll join a friendly, diverse and effective team of Trustees and staff, and work to take the charity forward with your experience, skills, passion and commitment.
A recent skills analysis has identified gaps in certain areas, leading us to prioritise the following:
> Someone with a strong background in Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI)
> A local business owner with strong local business connections
> A marketing professional, ideally with strong experience in a fundraising environment
> Someone with excellent financial skills, preferably with knowledge of charity finance
Our aim is for our Trustee Board to represent the diverse communities we work with. Following a recent Trustee diversity survey, we would particularly welcome applications from women, trans and non-binary people, people under 40 years of age and disabled people, as these groups are currently under-represented on our Board.

Overview
Charity Purpose
- Raise funds for research into the cause, prevention and management of dementia.
- Allocate funding to university research project meeting the highest academics standards.
- Raising awareness of dementia.
Objective
- Holds the Executive team and the Board to account to:
- remain focussed solely on the BRACE stated purpose
- remain compliant with all English and Welsh laws and the regulations of the Charity Commission. - Support the Chief Executive in ensuring both the Board members and Executive team work closely together to achieve the agreed strategic objectives.
- Act (in partnership with the Chief Executive) as an ambassador and the public face of BRACE.
Charity Structure
- BRACE the charity has a sole Trustee “BRACE Trustee Limited”. All members of the Board are Directors of BRACE Trustee Limited and act as Trustees of BRACE. There are up to 15 directors of BRACE Trustee Limited who for reasons of clarity are called Trustees.
- The Chair and Trustees are usually appointed for a fixed term of 4 years which can be renewed once, enabling Trustees to serve for a maximum continuous term of 8 years.
Meetings
- Board meetings are held 4 times a year plus 1 awayday. Each meeting is +/- 4 hours.
- There are currently 3 sub-committees of the Board (Scientific Advisory Committee [SAC], Finance and HR). The 3 sub-committees meet no more than one month before the board meetings either in person or on Zoom. SAC reviews applications for grants and makes recommendations to the Board for approval.
- Board Meetings are generally held in person in the Bristol area, online or hybrid meetings are not encouraged but can be facilitated.

Sutton Mental Health Foundation was established as a charity in 1998. Its aim is to support individuals experiencing serious mental health issues in the London Borough of Sutton. We aim to keep such individuals well and active helping them to have a voice in the provision of mental health care in the Borough. Our vision is to provide a community in Sutton which values mental wellbeing and understands how to respond positively to individuals’ anxiety and distress. The Foundation works together to promote mental wellbeing resilience and recovery from mental distress.We provide nonclinical support through our Intentional Peer Support programme together with a Day Service and a Crisis Cafe at our centre in Belmont. We receive funding mainly from the NHS and the London Borough of Sutton although we are part of the Voluntary Sector.
We are seeking to add to the expertise of our experienced, professional Board of Trustees all of whom are volunteers. All our Trustees require excellent communication skills, the ability to work effectively as part of a team, strategic vision and good independent judgement. Who we are
One in Four is one of the UK’s leading counselling support charities, with over 24 years’ experience of specialising in the long-term recovery support for adults and children who have a lived experience and survived sexual abuse and violence. The role
Your role as treasurer will be to
– Monitor the financial standing of the charity and report to the Board regarding cash-flow forecasting, income streams, out-going expenses and the overarching strategic management of the organisation’s financial resources.
– Oversee the charity’s financial risk-management process and report financial health to the Board of Trustees at regular intervals.
– Act as a counter signatory for on-line payments and applications to funders, and ensure that annual accounts are submitted to all relevant regulators in a timely fashion.
– Liaise with external auditors on financial issues and ensure that the organisation’s finances are responsibly managed and invested for the betterment of the organisation’s work and for the beneficiaries it serves.

The Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust is recruiting for a Trustee (Treasurer) and wants to hear what you could offer.
You will support our Board of Trustees, Youth Advisory Group, Chief Executive Officer and Leadership Team in achieving our strategic Ambitions. With this role’s Treasurer responsibilities, additional support to the CEO and Bookkeeper will be required around the annual audit (usually March-June). The role is unpaid.

My Name’5 Doddie Foundation was set up by late rugby legend Doddie Weir, who was diagnosed with Motor Neuron Disease (MND) in 2017. A devastating disease with no effective treatments and no cure, each of us have a lifetime risk of developing MND of 1:300. The condition takes the life of one third within a year of diagnosis and half within two years.
The Foundation has a single, clear vision: a world free of MND. Funding research lies at the heart of everything we do; it’s what allows world-leading experts to investigate potential drugs, expedite new treatments and, fundamentally, work towards finding a cure for this disease. In April 2023, we launched our ambitious new research strategy “Catalysing a Cure”, which outlines our continued commitment to our vision and to all the people affected by MND.

About the role.
We are looking for a new trustee with senior experience in an organisation supporting people experiencing homelessness and/or disadvantaged young people. This person will be contributing as a key member of our trustee Board with a particular focus on our grant giving and how we direct our funds to organisations creating longer-term impact in our areas of focus.
As a proactive grantmaker, we are always looking to refine and develop our grant-giving activity. You will play a key part in helping us think through and advise on grant-giving opportunities, bringing your insights and understanding to inform our grant-giving activity.

We are partnering Music Therapy Works (MTW) an independent charity based in the West Midlands, whose mission is to deliver comprehensive music therapy services for individuals, groups and communities in a wide range of circumstances.
MTW provides music therapy to support and enhance communication, self-expression, and wellbeing. They work in a variety of settings including schools, hospitals, care homes and hospices to help people whose lives have been affected by injury, illness or disability through supporting their psychological, emotional, cognitive, physical, communicative and social needs.
We are seeking a new Trustee for MTW to join their current board and support the CEO to bring new insight and skills to set and approve the strategic direction of the charity.
What is a Trustee?

- Trustees are the people who lead the charity and decide how it is run. They play a vital role in helping to define and develop the work of the charity.

- Trustees are also Directors of MTW as it is both a registered charity and a company limited by guarantee.

Why do we want Young Trustees?
It’s crucial to our work to have young people’s ideas and expertise in the organisation. We need the broadest range of perspective on our Board, and we want to be guided by a range of people who can contribute to the continued development of our work across all communities, and that includes young people. We are looking to recruit at least one person aged 18 to 25 to bring their voice to the table, to help us find the best ways forward for the future of opera, for the future of the company and most importantly, for future audiences and artists from all backgrounds.
We also want to support young people in their professional and personal development, and we will work with Young Trustees to ensure this is an opportunity for them to build their knowledge and experience. Young Trustees will receive mentoring from existing Trustees and training will be provided for any areas they feel less confident in.

We are looking for a new Trustee to join our welcoming and dynamic team at an exciting time and to make a meaningful difference through our work supporting disabled people to live with greater independence.
Designability is a national charity who for over 50 years have created equality of opportunity for disabled people, by removing barriers to independence, enabling them to live the life they choose.
Following a person-centred design approach, and by including disabled people at each point of the design process, we ensure their ideas and lived experiences are taken onboard and that what we create reflects people’s needs as well as products and services they want to use. We are best known for the iconic Wizzybug powered wheelchairs for very young disabled children. To date, they have been loaned to over 1,400 children, typically aged between 14 months and 5 years, across the UK completed free of charge thanks to the support of our generous donors.
Designability has a strong leadership team and we appointed a new Chief Executive at the beginning of 2024 who has over 20 years of experience as a founder, leader and consultant in a wide range of start-ups, commercial, public sector and not-for-profit environments. As we come the end of the first year of an ambitious three-year strategy, we are in a strong financial position with healthy reserves, and celebrated the end of 2023 with a highly successful televised BBC Lifeline Appeal demonstrating the impact of our work to a new and wider audience.
Having reviewed the skills, experience and diversity of current trustees, we would welcome candidates with experience in the following area:
Clinical expertise with experience of working with disabled people. This could include experience gained through a senior position in occupational therapy, physiotherapy or rehabilitation engineering or rehabilitation medicine.
Working as a team, trustees have three main responsibilities:
· To set a clear direction for Designability.
· To make sure that the charity’s plans are being carried out appropriately.
· To ensure that the charity meets its legal responsibilities .
All new trustees take part in an induction programme with the Chief Executive and Directors of each department and are offered ongoing training and support.
You will be joining an independent, national charity based in Bath. Our creative and inspiring team includes engineers, technicians, product designers, occupational therapists, fundraisers and administrators. Wolfram Syndrome UK (WSUK)
WSUK is a small national charity based in West Sussex that supports children, young people and adults affected by Wolfram Syndrome (WS) and their parents/wider families. WS is an ultra-rare genetic disorder which causes a complex range of symptoms, including diabetes mellitus, vision problems, renal problems, deafness, and neurological problems. WSUK provides current, accurate and family-friendly information, raises awareness of WS among health professionals and the public, and helps to fund WS research.
WSUK Treasurer
The WSUK Board is seeking to recruit a Treasurer to complement and extend the range of skills and experience of its current members. This voluntary role will maintain an overview of WSUK’s activities to ensure its financial viability and that proper financial procedures are maintained. Through active participation in quarterly Board meetings (on-line), this role will help WSUK to achieve its ambitions to continue to develop the activities and services it delivers to the WS community.

WSUK is seeking a treasurer who is committed and motivated to help lead this small, but growing charity. Some financial experience and skills are needed, along with good independent judgement, an ability to communicate clearly and a team-oriented approach. Treasurer role description
Summary of the role:
The overall role of the Treasurer is to maintain an overview of the organisation’s affairs, ensure its financial viability and ensure that proper financial records and procedures are maintained.
Overall responsibilities:
The responsibilities of the Treasurer include:
· Overseeing and approving budgets, accounts and financial statements.
· Ensuring proper records are kept and effective financial procedures and controls are in place.
· Regularly reporting the financial position at Board meetings (e.g. quarterly reports), drawing attention to important points in a coherent and easily understandable way.
· Overseeing the production of an annual budget and proposing its adoption at the last meeting of the previous financial year.
· Being assured that the financial resources of the organisation meet its present and future needs.
· Keeping the Board informed about its financial duties and responsibilities.
· Liaising with members of the WSUK team about financial matters.
· Liaising at a Board level with external auditors on specific issues in the auditing process.
· Guiding and advising fellow trustees to formally approve the annual report and audited accounts.
· Contributing to the fundraising strategy of the organisation.
· Appraising the financial viability of plans and proposals.
Responsible to: This role works closely with the Chair and Board of Trustees
Experience and skills:
The treasurer should have the following qualities:
· Financial experience. (e.g. as a Financial Director, Financial controller or qualified accountant).
· Financial analytical and evaluation skills.
· Good, independent judgement and strong leadership skills.
· Ability to communicate clearly.
· A team-oriented approach to problem solving and to management.
· Understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship.
· A willingness to devote the necessary time and effort and be available to staff for advice and enquiries on an ad hoc basis.
· A commitment to Nolan’s seven principles of public life: selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty and leadership.
This is a voluntary position although all reasonable expenses are paid (in line with the WSUK expenses policy).
This role will require a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
Time commitment
· The Board meets around 4 times per year, held virtually in the evening.
· The AGM is typically held as a face-to-face meeting on a Saturday afternoon in / near Worthing, West Sussex.
· Attendance at fundraising events and the Wolfram Syndrome annual conference is optional.
