About Been There:

 

Been There is a small (but growing!) charity in the form of an app that connects people aged 18 and over with a vetted and trained mentor to help with any body image issues they may be experiencing. This gives them the opportunity to speak to someone who has ‘Been There’ themselves. Our Mentors are here to support, empower and, most importantly, listen.

About the role:

 

If you are an experienced fundraiser, we need your help! Been There’s Board of Trustees share ultimate responsibility for governing the charity and directing how it is managed and run. As a member of the Board, you will help set the strategic aims, objectives and direction of the charity. The skills and knowledge you bring will enhance the Board and support Been There in achieving its charitable objectives

 

As a Fundraising Trustee, you will play a key role within our charity in assisting the Board to develop an ambitious fundraising strategy and help us to further improve the effectiveness of our income generation so we can maximise the number of service users we can provide support to. You will help to ensure our fundraising is of the highest standard and that we are meeting our fundraising objectives as well as complying with our legal duties. Alongside relevant experience, you will also possess an ability to work to tight deadlines, prioritising multiple tasks, and will be a natural team player with excellent written and spoken English.

Board meetings are held every other month for 2 hours (two via Zoom and one per quarter in Kingston-Upon-Thames). If required, this role can be completely remote and you can attend the quarterly meeting over video call.

 

Role Summary:

 

· To assist the Board of Trustees to develop a comprehensive fundraising strategy for Been There

· To guide, support, and challenge the Communications Manager and fundraising volunteers.

· To report to the Trustees on a regular basis, giving an update on fundraising achievements, plans, and progress.

· To ensure fundraising is of the highest standard and priority within a robust governance framework that meets all relevant legislation.

Main Responsibilities:

 

· Oversee fundraising to make sure it is carried out in legal, honest, and accountable ways.

· Strategically assess where fundraising fits into the overall charity strategy, and work with the Trustees to ensure effective income generation is being achieved.

· Contributing knowledge of fundraising techniques, best practice, and strategies.

· Assessing risks in new fundraising directions, alerting the Board of Trustees in a timely manner, as and when necessary, of key concerns.

· To report to the Board at a strategic level on the successes and challenges of the fundraising strategy.

· To help the charity further develop its fundraising capabilities through effective people and processes.

· On an ad hoc basis, to work with the Chair of Trustees and the Communications Manager, outside of the Trustee meetings, to support and develop the fundraising strategy.

Person Specification:

 

· To have substantial background as a senior charity fundraiser with a sound understanding and experience of charity fundraising at strategic and operational levels.

· A good understanding of fundraising within a small charity and the challenges facing small charities.

· Experience of diverse income generation practices.

· Sound, independent judgement and ability to think creatively.

· Ability to give constructive feedback and provide challenge.

· Experience in the charitable or voluntary sector.

· An ability to work to tight deadlines, ensuring prioritisation of multiple tasks.

Context:

The statutory duties of a trustee are:

What will you be doing:

We are looking for a new Trustee to act as Company Secretary. This role is for someone who is organised and methodical, with an eye for detail. Compliance and Governance

• To work with the Chair to ensure the Board of Trustees complies with the relevant charity and company regulations

Support to Trustees

• To oversee the induction of new Trustees into the charity, including the undertaking of the Disclosure and Barring check (DBS)
• To fulfil such other duties as may be required from time to time by the Board of Trustees

Meetings and Annual General Meeting (AGM)

• Liaise with the Chair to organise the AGM in accordance with the organisation’s governing documents, including the preparation and distribution of necessary reports and documentation
• Ensure that proper notice is given, and all necessary legal requirements are fulfilled for the AGM
• To take concise and relevant minutes of meetings subgroup and board meetings, sending them to the board in a timely manner

Person Specification  - Essential

• Proven experience in a company secretary, governance, or administrative role, ideally within a non-profit or charity setting
• Be a Director of the company (limited by guarantee) Please check that you fulfil the conditions on the UK government website 
• Be willing to provide data required to be added to the Charity Commission website, Companies House website and the Financial Conduct Authority Register – your name only will be visible to the public.

Operating since 2001, The Hepatitis C Trust (HCT) is the only national UK hepatitis C charity. Role Overview:
As a Trustee at The Hepatitis C Trust with a focus on the Treasurer role, you will play a vital part in ensuring the financial stability and integrity of The Hepatitis C Trust. You will work closely with the Board of Trustees and the Chief Executive to oversee the financial management of the charity, providing strategic guidance and ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

1. Strategic

· To assist and advise in the formation of the Charity’s strategy with particular regard to ensuring that the Charity has the resources to deliver the strategy.

· Ensure all strategic plans are financially appraised and budgets are aligned to both short-term and long-term objectives each year.

2  Financial Oversight

· To ensure that the Board receives appropriate budgetary and financial information on the activities of the charity including Annual Accounts

· To ensure that all accounts are prepared and disclosed in the form required by funders and the relevant statutory bodies

· To work with the CEO in  the appointment of auditors and review on a regular basis.

· To work in close partnership with the CEO in executing their responsibilities and achieving their goals.

3 Assets and Investments

· To ensure that the Charity has an appropriate investment policy

· To ensure that the Charity monitors the performance of its investments and to set a appropriate reserves policy

· To ensure that all equipment and assets are adequately maintained and accounted for.

· Ensuring that there is no conflict between any investment held and the aims and objects of the charity

· Monitoring the organisation’s investment activity and ensuring it is consistent with the organisation’s policies and legal responsibilities

4. Governance

· To ensure that the Board is aware of its financial duties and responsibilities and the need to comply with all legislation

· To ensure that all financial policies, procedures and the appointment of external financial advisors are reviewed on a regular basis

· Ensure financial reports to the trustees are comprehensible and properly discussed

· To ensure that the Board’s scheme of delegation is reviewed on a regular basis

· To act as Chair of the Finance and Governance sub-committee of the Board

 

 Person Specification

· Qualified accountant with demonstration of not-for-profit awareness and knowledge

Trustee general responsibilities

In addition to the responsibilities outlined above, the Treasurer as a Trustee has the following general responsibilities:

· Contribute actively to the Board of Trustees' role in giving strategic direction to the charity, setting overall strategy and policy, setting targets and evaluating performance against agreed targets;

· Ensure the financial stability of the organisation and the proper investment of the Charity's funds;

· Ensure the Charity applies its resources exclusively in pursuing its objectives;

· Ensure the effective and efficient administration of the Charity;

· Safeguard the good name and values of the Charity;

· Declare any conflict of interest while carrying out the duties of a Trustee;

· Be collectively responsible for the actions of the Charity and other Trustees;

· Participate in other tasks as arise from time to time, such as interviewing new staff, helping with fundraising;

· Attend meetings and subcommittee meetings as appropriate and read papers in preparation for the meeting;

· Keep informed about the activities of the charity and wider issues which affect its work.

In addition to the duties of all Trustees, each Trustee should use any specific skills, knowledge or experience they have to help the Board of Trustees reach sound decisions. We are seeking a dedicated and experienced individual to join our Board of Trustees as a Treasurer Trustee. The Treasurer Trustee will play a pivotal role in ensuring the financial integrity, sustainability, and accountability of NBR.

Key Responsibilities:

Budgeting and strategic financial planning

• Safeguard the organisation’s finances.
• Regularly assess the charity’s reserves position, keeping the board informed and advising whether this needs modification if financial circumstances change.

In relation to Governance

• Lead the Board’s duty to ensure proper accounting records are kept, financial resources are controlled, and economically spent in line with governance, legal and regulatory requirements.
• Chair finance committees in line with terms of reference and report findings/developments back to the Board of trustees.
• Advise on the financial implications of the charity’s strategic plans and oversee the charity’s financial risk-management process.

Time Commitment:

• The board meets a maximum of 4 times a year and the Treasurer is expected to be available for all meetings, in person or virtual – dates agreed in advance.

THE DETAILS

Feeling Strong is an exciting Dundee-based charity with the ambition to improve the lives of young people living with mental health and wellbeing challenges by fostering the skills, confidence and aspirations they need to flourish. Our services are designed by young people, delivered by young people for the benefit of young people, and we believe that this youth-led/peer-led approach is our biggest asset in tackling issues around mental health and wellbeing. We support stable recovery journeys for young people, lead campaigns to tackle societal issues, develop quality resources based on our own research, and tackle the disparity they face in unemployment, underemployment and accessing opportunities like further and higher education.

YOUR COMMITMENT

Whilst the Trustee Board meets for formal meetings 6 times a year, successful candidates will be expected to contribute to the organisation more widely, taking part in fundraisers, external events, strategic planning and advising the staff team when needed. The average contribution expected of Trustees is around one hour a week.

Work-related travel costs will be reimbursed.

Mulberry Schools Foundation is looking for a Finance Trustee to support it in its next stage of development. The Foundation was set up by the Mulberry Schools Trust and builds on its work to create exceptional educational opportunities.

Who we are

Mulberry Schools Foundation is the charitable arm of Mulberry Schools Trust, established in 2019. The Foundation is creating exceptional opportunities for children and young people facing disadvantage, strengthening their capacity to make a difference in their world. We support, develop and champion young people and their families in the Trust’s schools, its partner schools and its local and global communities through a wide range of commissioned and funded work.

The role

We are looking for an individual with financial experience at a senior corporate level to become the designated Finance Trustee for Mulberry Schools Foundation. The candidate is expected to be a qualified accountant and may have investment experience. Experience of charity funds would be helpful but not essential. We can provide training. Commitment to support MSF’s mission and values is essential. There are currently six Trustees and the board meets three times a year. Meetings are usually held at Mulberry School for Girls, E1 2JP, but occasionally are held remotely for convenience. Trustee terms are four years.

The Foundation has recently resumed operational activity and intends to grow its funds significantly over the coming months and years. The finance team of MST provide the operational financial administration for the Foundation. The Finance Trustee will support the Foundation’s Trustees with oversight of the financial reporting and management of the Foundation’s funds and with identifying and attracting funding partners. The Foundation is particularly interested in securing a large sponsor for its endowment fund.

The successful candidate will:

· be passionate about creating opportunities for those from disadvantaged backgrounds

· have professional expertise in finance and an accounting qualification

· have experience at a senior level

· be commercially astute and comfortable with fundraising

· be willing to leverage their own networks for the Foundation

· be a strong ambassador for the Foundation and its stakeholders

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Board of Trustees at Refugee Support Devon. As Chair, you will have a unique chance to champion the charity’s mission to support and empower refugees and asylum seekers as they rebuild their lives.

What will you be doing?

The Chair leads the board of trustees, ensuring that it governs the charity effectively, in service of the charity’s vision and mission. The Chair leads in an inclusive way, supporting the board to work together well, and providing support and challenge to the manager. The Chair is also an ambassador for the charity.

Time Commitment is estimated as equivalent to 2-4 days per month.

• Be responsive. As a small charity, things sometimes ‘come up’ that require the Chair to advise, support or give consent to. It is very helpful to have a Chair who is available and responsive.
