Responsibilities of our Community Fundraising Officer:
- This role supports the delivery, growth and reach of community fundraising in a defined geographical location and supports the development and delivery of a local fundraising strategy in line with the organisation’s broader income generation objectives.
- The Community Fundraising Officer will establish, implement, develop and maximize all community fundraising opportunities, increase income, deliver exceptional supporter stewardship and exemplary volunteer management, working collaboratively with the Community Fundraising Hub Manager and Community Fundraising Volunteer Team Leader to build on past successes and develop a diverse pipeline of community fundraising events and activities that respond to local audience needs.
- The role will also build and develop exceptional fundraising relationships with supporters and volunteers within the defined geographical location to harness the power of our local footprint and raise income and awarenes

As Head of Development, you will be a key member of a small team. Reporting to the incoming Chief Executive, you will develop and implement the preexisting fundraising strategy and guide the organisation’s communications and PR strategy. As Head of Development, you will:
- Develop and implement the existing fundraising strategy and develop marketing and communications efforts, ensuring cohesive and impactful messaging to effectively engage donors and stakeholders
- Deliver a high standard of supporter care and relationship management tailored to the level of giving, including nurturing their successful new Legacy Club
- Manage and attend an annual series of fundraising events, from relaxed open days to formal receptions
- Oversee NYJO marketing and communications
- Line manage the Development & Communications Coordinator and the Marketing & Communications Coordinator
Ideal skills and experience:
- Experience of securing 5- and 6-figure grants from a range of trust, statutory and/or individual sources
- Tailoring applications to appeal to a diverse range of funders/donors, which may include drawing together distinct areas of activity to create bespoke packages
- An outgoing, approachable, confident and professional manner in dealing with donors, prospects and other stakeholders

About the role
Our passionate Regional Casework Coordinators are SSAFA’s front line of support for members of the armed forces community in need. They are the first point of contact for all beneficiaries into the Regional Office, assessing needs and allocating the case to one of our volunteer caseworkers.
You will sometimes handle complex problems from individuals who may be distressed, identifying the presenting and potential underlying needs to determine the best way to support the beneficiary. You will have ownership of cases from beginning to end, coordinating the casework process in a timely manner and ensure that the beneficiary journey is at the centre of the Service. You will have the opportunity to shape processes and procedures within the office which will lead to improvements in the service offered to clients.
To help you establish yourself in this new post you will receive excellent training and induction to SSAFA.
Whilst the post is homebased, to be eligible for this role you are required to live in the South East region, which includes: Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Guernsey, Hampshire, Isle of Wight, Jersey, Kent, Oxfordshire, Surrey, Sussex.

The team work remotely and pride themselves in maintaining a close working bond which ensures the smooth operation of the office. You will work closely with volunteers from the ten SSAFA branches in the South East, supporting them to administer casework for SSAFA beneficiaries. The wider support team includes a Casework Manager and a Regional Operations Support Manager.
About you
To carry out this role successfully you will have a track record of providing welfare advice in key areas such as, housing benefits, debt, disability, mobility or immigration issues. You will have knowledge of safeguarding and GDPR and experience in dealing with sensitive information and people in vulnerable situations. You will be able to provide excellent customer service by telephone, e-mail and face to face. You will have used Microsoft Office 365 to a high standard. It is important that you have experience of planning and managing your own workload, with minimal supervision.
It would be advantageous if you have an understanding of the way of life for today’s Armed Forces, veterans and their families and if you have experience of recruiting and supporting volunteers. An understanding of the voluntary sector and preferably the military charity sector landscape across the South East Region would be valuable.

Job Summary

The main purpose of this role is to oversee the design, development and delivery of CSE’s grant making to community organisations and to ensure that good practices are applied across our grant making activities. The post holder will be responsible for overseeing CSE’s grant making schemes through a combination of direct scheme management and by supporting schemes managed by other CSE staff (for example, by providing templates, guidance, quality checks, advice and relationship management).
Pay and conditions
The role is full-time (37.5 hours per week).
The starting salary for the role will be £34,788. After your six-month probationary review, your salary may increase to between £35,934-£38,229 per annum.

Specific responsibilities
An applicant appointed to the role will be expected to:
- Designing and developing high-quality grant giving schemes for a range of stakeholders (e.g. community anchor organisations, voluntary community groups, individuals and larger organisations), that enable the realisation of CSE project and programme objectives.
- Make outbound calls to clients when required, such as booking home visits, and keeping client records up to date.
- Developing and implementing a clear set of practices, and making sure they are understood and adhered to, in order to identify, mitigate and monitor potential risks associated with our grant giving projects.
- Maintaining tailoring and adapting our standard documentation (for example, grant agreement template; application form; eligibility criteria; payment form) to different grant schemes, ensuring they meet the individual needs of each scheme and remain as accessible as possible.
- Ensuring efficient processes are in place for evidencing, instructing, and monitoring grant payments, administering payment processes (such as raising and/or checking grant payment requests with our finance team) and that you handle any personal data appropriately.
- Ensuring that high-quality and proportionate project management is in place across our portfolio of grant giving projects, that funders receive the updates and information they need, and grantees are well supported and able to deliver to their objectives efficiently.
- Support project teams with managing relationships directly with grant recipients, including by maintaining strong communications and acting as the main point of contact with CSE; collecting and collating monitoring data; celebrating successes; addressing concerns (for example with review meetings or action plans); escalating issues as appropriate.
- Facilitating learning, networking, and sharing between grantees, ensuring that effective monitoring, evaluation and learning practices are embedded within existing grant-making projects.
- Using learning and feedback to inform how CSE designs future grant programmes and ensure learning is shared effectively with funders with the aim of shaping the broader grant making sector.
- Staying up to date with developments in the grant making sector (including keeping abreast of legal obligations and Equity, Diversity and Inclusion practices), learning from others and continually improving and developing our systems and processes.
