Shine has a membership of over 14,000 members living with Spina Bifida and/or Hydrocephalus and associated conditions and over 6,500 associated members.
Our Little Stars project for 0–12-year-olds has been established for over 5 years supporting younger members and their families with their diagnosis and beyond. We also have a growing Teen membership known as FIRE (Friendship, Independence, Resilience, Equality) Working alongside our multi skilled, established team, you will be supporting members across all age groups and building on the great foundations already in place.
We are looking for an Early Intervention Project Worker who can cover the South of England, primarily you will be home based, supporting members through phone calls and using online platforms. You will be required to attend clinics, events and meet members one to one where necessary within your allocated area and occasionally across wider areas and nationally.
Purpose of the role

To deliver Shine's Little Stars (funded by The National Lottery Community Fund) project for 0–12-year-olds, supporting early years and younger members with their families, their diagnosis and beyond across the Southern Region. About the charity: Cavernomas look like raspberries and are found in the brain and spinal cord. They're formed of abnormal blood vessels with thin leaky walls, which can bleed at any age without warning. 1 in 625 people are thought to have a cavernoma, and whilst most people won't experience symptoms 1 in 2,700 do. About the roles: The Member Support Assistant is responsible for assisting our Volunteer Manager with administration relating to the support of the charity’s 4,000 members and volunteers. This includes offering a professional service to members of CAUK, typically via phone, email, online, chat, or on occasion in person. The role involves supporting the membership and volunteering processes, ensuring all admin is accurate and up to date. As a Children and Young Persons Support Worker (CYP Domestic Violence Advocate), you will be required to:
- Conduct comprehensive needs and risk assessments and ensure each CYP receives an individual tailored support package that fully meets their identified needs, including safety planning, advocacy, emotional and practical support.
- Provide one to one support to children and young people living in families affected by domestic abuse.

The post holder will play a crucial role in the service delivery, being the first point of contact for survivors who are referred to the Gaia Centre by contacting the survivors, assessing their needs and risks, carrying out and implementing safety plans and needs and will ensure an effective handover to the relevant GAIA team for ongoing support or referring to another appropriate agency for support.
The duty worker will also empower survivors by providing them with emotional, practical, and personal welfare support. You will ensure that survivors are provided with a safe, supportive environment, enabling them to access their rights, make decisions and increase their life options.
The job involves working within a multi-agency framework consisting of the MARAC and local partnership protocols and procedures that prioritise the safety of survivors. The job involves informing survivors of the full range of civil, criminal and practical options that might increase their safety.

Job Purpose: We are looking to recruit an empathic, warm, friendly, hard-working and flexible person who is passionate about improving young people’s emotional wellbeing and mental health. They must be a team player with excellent communication and organisational skills, able to prioritise and manage their own workload. They must be able to work independently within the community.
Salary: £ 26,000 - £29,120
Hours of work: 35 hours per week. Working pattern is Monday 12:30am-8:30pm, Tuesday 9:00am to 5:00pm, Wednesday 10.30am to 6:30pm, Thursday 9:00am -5:00pm, Friday 10:00am - 6:00pm.
Location: Phoenix Youth Centre plus working across locations in East Surrey as necessary.
Annual leave: Five weeks plus bank holidays (pro-rata for part time workers) Holidays increase after two years’ service to a maximum of six weeks after six years’ service. (pro-rata for part time workers)
The holiday year runs from 1 April to 31 March each year.

Main Responsibilities:
To help assess the needs and strengths of the referred young adult and help them identify individual goals to achieve desired change
To deliver early support/targeted group interventions which aim to improve mental health and well-being, build on existing strengths and increase levels of resilience
Record and collect data with various tools such as Outcome Star and Session Feedback Questionnaires to evaluate the ef fectiveness of interventions
To take responsibility for own caseload of young adults, some with complex and multiple needs, with support f rom senior EWMH staf f
To help involve project participants in the co-production of programmes, activities and services
To be proactive in connecting with other agencies who can provide activities to support Step Forward sessions
Attending networking events and meetings, online and in-person, to promote Step Forward
To work collaboratively with Surrey CCGs, GPs, local CYPS and adult mental health teams and other community-based services to provide the most ef fective service for young adults and reach targets set by partners whilst keeping within the YMCA values of service
To keep accurate records of individual engagement, evidence of change and celebrate progress with participants
To record and report the appropriate data to ensure the project can be accurately monitored and evaluated
Where appropriate, to apply safeguarding and child and vulnerable adult protection procedures
To organise and provide written case studies as evidence of the ef fectiveness of individual interventions and activities
To work as part of a team and attend team meetings, training events and participate fully in one to one, peer and group supervision
Support summer activity programmes with partner group WAVES with supervising young people of f -site
Planning, organising and running summer activities for Step Forward participants (Wellbeing Coordinator – Step Forward, September 2024)
To take responsibility for Youth Support Workers, volunteers and colleagues volunteering time to the project, taking charge of a staf f rota and ensuring guidelines are in place and updated regularly to ensure best practice
Outreaching to external volunteer workers and communicating closely with HR
Any other duties are required to be performed within the grade and renumeration of the role
