Demelza Charity is seeking high calibre individuals to join our team of Trustees.

You do not need previous Trustee experience. We offer comprehensive training, and we pay all out of pocket expenses. Time commitment is up to 3 days every 3 months, broken down into meetings of around 2 hours and reading papers beforehand. All dates are given one year in advance. 

This year we have added targeting to our general trustee recruitment by looking for talented individuals with expertise in the following specific areas, to support our vital work in providing expert palliative and end of life care to babies, children and young people and support to their families.

Medical expertise to strengthen the clinical strategy delivery and support a multi-disciplinary approach. Your expertise might come from any relevant medical discipline – e.g. paediatrician, critical care, any area of acute medicine. 

Are you a senior experienced retailer, familiar with all aspects of maximising profitability and positive customer experience. You will help us to maximise the financial, reputational and PR opportunities of our suite of retail outlets and optimise the model to support growth. 

We also seek professionals with experience in technology or data. Your experience might be in IT, applications and systems, cyber security, artificial intelligence, networks and infrastructure. Alternatively you may be 
experienced in data protection, data analytics, data governance or digital transformation.

You may have other valuable skills. 

Approximate time commitment – a total of three days per quarter minimum.

Help us make people’s experience of homeless temporary accommodation short, safe and healthy.

The Treasurer will support the Board to oversee the financial matters of the charity in line with good practice, the

Constitution and legal requirements, and report to the Board at regular intervals about the financial position of the charity.

The Treasurer will ensure that effective financial measures, controls and procedures are put in place and are appropriate

for the charity. (Despite this all trustees are jointly and severally responsible for the administration of the charity).

Main responsibilities:

• To support the Board to oversee and to ensure appropriate presentation of budgets, accounts, management accounts and financial statements.
• To ensure appropriate presentation of accounts and records, ensuring that financial resources are spent in accordance with the charity’s policies, good governance, legal and regulatory requirements.

Main duties:

• Liaising, where applicable with the CEO (or other appropriate member of staff).
• Supporting the Board to monitor the financial viability of the charity.
• Creating in conjunction with relevant senior staff sound financial instruments for the control of charity assets.
• Ensuring that staff create sound financial instruments for the control of charity assets.
• Advising on the financial implications of the charity’s Strategic Plan.
• Ensuring that the annual accounts are compliant with the current charities’ SORP.
• Ensuring close working relationships with the internal audit team and Committees of the Board.
• Ensuring that sound financial management is maintained and ensuring expenditure is in line with the charity’s objects.
• Acting as a counter signatory on charity cheques and any applications and receipts of funding (if necessary or mandated).

We Stand - Formally Mosac  provide a free National Helpline service to non abusing parents and carers of sexually abused children. We are currently seeking Helpline Volunteers to provide support, information and a listening ear to parents and carers whose children have been sexually abused.

We know a caring, sensitive and non judgemental response can make a real difference to someone seeking support. We are looking for volunteers with good verbal, listening and communication skills, no previous experience on a helpline is required. Trained, experienced staff will always be on hand to provide support and guidance.

Helpline Volunteers will:

• Receive full training prior to the formal induction (8 week training programme) Dates to be confirmed 
• Commit to volunteer 4 hours per week for a minimum of 1 year
• Receive ongoing support and supervision from a friendly team
• Make a difference to the lives of families impacted by child sexual abuse

Your Responsibilities: 

• Answer calls that come through the National Helpline 

• Provide support, information and signposting to relevant support organisations 

• Complete all call log and monitoring information after each call 

• Attend mandatory supervision meetings fortnightly or monthly to support you in the role. 

• For volunteers working remotely - attend 30 minute supervision after your shift.

Volunteers are at the heart of everything we do. The Prince’s Trust couldn’t function without the support of thousands of volunteers across the UK, who can offer a vital network to young people facing significant barriers to jobs, education, or training.

Our employability and progression mentors support young people thorugh 121's to develop their confidence and skills and achieve a positive outcome. If you have experience within Health and Social Care, you can support groups of young people through assisting and leading on delivering sessions.

If you have a background in H&SC, you will assist and lead in delivering Healthcare-specific sessions such as Infection Control, Adult Support and Protection and Values Based Recruitment, providing guidance and encouragement to develop young people’s knowledge and employability skills. There will be session plans and training provided for this, so that you feel confident and equipped to deliver the sessions to a group of young people.

The Prince’s Trust is looking for volunteers to develop young people’s employability skills, e.g., CV reviews and mock interviews and help them search for jobs in H&SC. You will be a vital resource assisting with deciphering job descriptions and suitability criteria to support young people to make an informed choice about the jobs they apply for. You will also provide a framework to encourage self-development activities and resilience as part of being job-ready for H&SC. During the first few months of the young person’s employment; you will provide guidance and support while they are adjusting to the work and the environment.

By volunteering to be a mentor with The Prince’s Trust within our Health and Social Care (H&SC) project, you will be helping to shape the next generation of healthcare workers. You will be working 121 with Young People who want to work in H&SC and need your support to get there.

Mentoring partnerships with a young person usually last around six months and will take about an hour of your time once a week. Most mentor meetings occur virtually in a provision provided by the Trust and will flex around your and the young person’s availability. You do not have to have a background in H&SC to apply for this role although it would be preferable - however, if you have specific skills of H&SC background, please let us know on your application.

Knowledge and skills important to the role:

• Building trust with young people from various backgrounds – mentoring skills, great communicator, positive, encouraging, giving and receiving constructive corrective feedback and reinforcing learning and progress.
• Being a role model with experience or a growth and progress story that young people can relate to.
• Experience in job searches, the application process, and interview experiences.

Joining elop’s youth mentoring team, you will be part of an enthusiastic and dedicated team who values and appreciates volunteers and the benefit of supporting LGBTQ+ young people. 

You will be an integral part in supporting young LGBTQ+ people of colour with issues related to their lived experience. elop is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people and expects all volunteers to share this commitment. In order to do this you will need to undertake an enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service check and provide two references.

Our Mentoring Volunteers provide support and are role models to the young people we work with, and must be responsible, reliable and committed to the mentoring relationship. You will need to be good at communicating, enthusiastic and have a desire to help LGBTQ+ young people. Previous experience of working with young people would be beneficial but is not essential. No formal qualifications are required. You will need to commit to meeting with three young people on a one-to-one basis each for an hour a week for 6 months. This could be online or face to face in a designated location.

Duties and skills

• Have relevant experience and training to support young people aged 12 - 24 in a 1:1 capacity.

• Understand the issues and lived experience of LGBTQ+ young people of colour.

• Have the ability to be non-judgemental, listen and support, and create a safe space for LGBTQ+ young people of colour to achieve positive outcomes from mentoring.

• Have the ability to plan and deliver mentoring sessions to support a young person with individual needs related to their identity.

• Have the ability to set professional boundaries with young LGBTQ+ people in 1:1 settings and adhere to elop policies particularly safeguarding and confidentiality.

• Have the ability to accurately record written notes for mentoring sessions and admin for the role as necessary.

• You must identify as a LGBTQ+ person of colour to apply for this role.

In addition, all volunteers need to meet the minimal essential requirements for the volunteering at elop.

Induction and support

elop will provide an induction programme which will include induction to the organisation, induction to the role of mentoring which will include, elop mentoring programme, safeguarding induction training, use of materials, trauma informed approaches, support available. Volunteer mentors will receive line management support and supervision from an elop worker once a month and group reflective practice 1.5 hours every other month.

Age UK Birmingham teams up with the Dementia Carers Hub to offer specialized groups that include vital peer support, activities, and awareness sessions for those looking after people with dementia.

Volunteers are essential in running these weekly groups, leading activities, and helping to create a friendly atmosphere. Tasks include setting up the room including refreshments, guiding discussions, organizing activities, and keeping track of attendance.

Volunteering:

Volunteers should enjoy working in a team, be dependable, and be eager to support older individuals through enjoyable activities and meaningful interactions. This opportunity not only allows volunteers to make a real difference in the lives of dementia carers but also provides personal growth through training and community engagement

• For our Monday Erdington and Wednesday Sutton Coldfield groups, the ideal people for this role should have qualities like empathy, patience, and friendliness. While some knowledge of dementia is helpful, it's not mandatory and training in dementia skills will be provided and encouraged.
   
• For our Thursday Oscott group, where the group is for people with dementia and their carers, in addition to above, experience of working with or caring for someone with dementia is essential.

Additionally, volunteers will have their travel costs and any relevant expenses covered, and will undergo necessary background checks for everyone's safety.

Alliance for African Women Initiative (AFAWI) welcomes volunteer interns from around the world. As a grassroots organization we foster a knowledge sharing environment that promotes an experience to learn about international development, Ghanaian culture and our projects that empowers women and children to create a better future for communities. AFAWI is not a placement agency, all the projects are owned and operated by our staff. Our organization was built to serve Ghanaian communities with a focus on women and children.

Cancer affects us all in different ways. We know it can be difficult. Big C is here, across our county, to support anyone affected by cancer in any way.

We are currently looking for Volunteers to join our Support and Information team at our centre based in Kings Lynn.

Volunteers are an integral part of the day-to-day running of our Support Centres. Our Centres offer a variety of cancer-related information, a wide range of practical and emotional support, a place to relax with a cup of tea, and the opportunity to talk to the trained Centre staff if needed.

Volunteers can get involved with meeting and greeting visitors to the centre, providing a supportive and listening ear to our service users and making refreshments.

Individuals with a genuine interest in the wellbeing of vulnerable people who are committed to volunteering within the charity’s policies and procedures and who will adhere to the volunteering code of conduct.

When would you be needed to volunteer?

Ideally, we ask all applicants to commit to providing a minimum of 2 hours volunteering a week at a time to meet your availability and our service requirements.

As a Business Volunteer, you will work alongside other volunteer mentors and Trust colleagues providing short-term mentoring and guidance to young people or supporting Programme group sessions where expert knowledge, skills or experience (such as language, legal, financial, or sector expertise) is needed. We are currently looking for Business Mentors in Wales.

Our Business Mentors are involved in guiding a young person through regular 1-to-1 mentoring and active support, as they grow the necessary skills and confidence needed to achieve their goals. This may range from providing help, guidance, and support as they identify whether self-employment is right for them, through to remaining alongside them in the early years as their business establishes and grows. You may be helping them to test the viability of their business ideas, launch their enterprise, helping to identify markets and opportunities for growth and will be championing and encouraging them as they navigate the often-difficult early stages of their business journey.

Volunteering can take place at a delivery centre or maybe online, though most likely you will be meeting your mentee in a convenient public location that suits you both.

By volunteering as a Business Mentor you will be directly impacting young people who will benefit from your knowledge, expertise and experience.

Mentoring with The Prince’s Trust is centred around empowering a young person to take ownership of their own journey. For this role we are looking for someone with a good knowledge of the fundamentals of developing and growing a new business. It would be great if you have experience in things like business planning, selling, marketing & finance and are good at building trust with young people from a range of backgrounds. More than this we want you bring to life your experience in a way that empowers our young people to do it for themselves, so being a great communicator, creative, flexible and non-judgemental is essential.

It is important that our business mentors are encouraging, able to give and receive constructive corrective feedback and reinforce learning and progress.

You will be working with young people who have completed our Exploring Enterprise Course which is designed to help 18 to 30-year-olds turn their ideas into a business reality.

If you have a passion and enthusiasm to support young people, many of whom are experiencing significant personal barriers, and could commit a few hours each month, we would love to hear from you!

Mencap Mates Coffee Mate Ipswich

We support a gentleman who is 62 he likes to travel and also enjoys going out for a coffee there are some nice coffee shops that can be travelled to in Ipswich but he would also be happy to go further with your support, he is free on the later part of the week and weekends.

He is looking to make a friendship with a someone who is kind and can meet up monthly.

We support adults with a learning disability in a shared home in your local area. They all have different interests and would love a volunteer to come and spend time with them doing what they love! As well as sharing their interests, you will be supporting to improve their social lives and as a volunteer you will have the opportunity to make a real, positive, and meaningful impact in the lives of people with a learning disability.

This role will take place on a weekly basis for a few hours (dependent on what you get up to) and we can be flexible to arrange this around the best time for you. It could be a weekday, weeknight or weekend. We’d appreciate any time that you can spare.

Whilst on shift, you will do activities based on the interests of you and those you volunteer with, you will arrive at their home each shift, see who is keen to hangout, and simply spend time together.

• Going for a stroll/coffee/shopping in your local area
• Playing games or doing activities at home

We offer face to face, telephone and video-conference support. As a part of this, we are looking for volunteers to offer peer led support to individuals who may access our service. This includes a variety of tasks, such as devising and facilitating peer led workshops with clients, supporting with 1:1 sessions, and completing administrative tasks.

We are looking for someone who:

• Has lived experience of mental health/social crisis
• Preferably have had experience working with people who experience poor mental health
• Are comfortable with co-producing and facilitating peer led workshops
• Might be willing to take over running the workshops by themselves over time
• Are willing to actively participate with clients 1:1 and in group settings
• Are able to take on any ad hoc admin/support responsibilities within the Safe Space Team

Time commitment and expenses:

• 5 hours per week, during our opening hours of 12–5pm.  Please indicate your preferred volunteering day(s) on your application.
• We will provide volunteers with an induction, training, and ongoing mentoring to support them in the role 
• Reasonable travel expenses will be reimbursed.
