Our research and policy work is focused on addressing four themes which are key to delivering the best possible end of life experience for all - physical and mental health and wellbeing; financial security; relationships, carers and bereavement; and equity and equality in end of life experience.
As Policy Manager for health and wellbeing, you will be working as part of the policy and public affairs England team, managing specified areas of policy and influencing work and helping to deliver our operational plan. Your role will be key to ensuring our charity delivers the policy and practice changes needed to transform end of life experience.
You will be responsible for:
- Managing specified areas of Marie Curie's policy and influencing work, on issues related to the mental and physical health and wellbeing of people at the end of life.
- Analysing the policy landscape and developing evidence-based policy recommendations which are informed and where possible co-produced by people with lived experience.
- Writing reports and other materials including briefings, consultation responses, blogs and articles, to translate Marie Curie funded and other academic research into accessible formats for a range of audiences.
- Developing extensive networks with policy makers, researchers, clinicians, practitioners, charities and service providers on policy and research issues, ensuring that the organisation is well represented at meetings, events and conferences.
- Participating in or chairing coalitions and presenting at speaking engagements as required.
Key Criteria:
- Experience of producing high quality, evidence-based reports and briefings to deliver change in policy and practice.
- Knowledge of one or more of the following: health and social care; palliative and end of life care; mental health.
- Ability to analyse complex and varied written material such as research reports and legislation.
- Excellent ability to communicate evidence-based policy to a wide range of different audiences, both orally and in writing.

The Role

Job Outline:
To provide project support to a number of programmes including:
• Operations – Initiatives to ensure our area is maintained as a clean, safe, well-managed and resilient through dedicated street management, effective communications and facilitated local networks
• Sustainability - Promoting social and environmental impact and wellbeing while supporting the delivery of businesses’ sustainability and ESG objectives
• Smarter Giving - our initiative facilitating relationships between our member businesses and local charities and community groups
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Operations Support
• Research and collate area information including crime statistics, planned street works, planned events and protests, planning and licensing
• Maintain Street Team rotas onto team calendar
• Assistance with the day-to-day oversight of the Street Team
• Update and send weekly Security and Operations mailer
• Update weekly Street Works
• Manage our range of Operations communication and intelligence sharing platforms and closed WhatsApp groups
• Actively assessing the quality and look/feel of our footprint area to report to Operations Manager
• Administrative assistance with Operational contract management
• Manage Health and Safety/Risk Assessments/RAMS for outdoor markets and events

About the role:
The Floating Support Worker will specialise in working with women for whom housing and risk of tenancy breakdown is a priority. You will provide specialist housing and domestic abuse support to women aged 18 and over. The accommodation needs of the women you support will require you to advocate and support for each woman efficiently and empathically, whilst liaising with providers and stakeholders to ensure her accommodation needs are met. The role is dynamic and requires the post holder to respond to women with effective crisis intervention, advocacy and support. They will be required to coordinate the provision of multi-agency support which focuses on working with clients to maintain their tenancies and prevent homelessness. The post holder will establish positive, proactive, and innovative working relationships with housing services and partner agencies.
About You:
To be successful as the Housing Floating Support Worker, you will need the below experience and skills:
Solid experience of supporting women who have experienced domestic abuse in all its forms, come from a sector with transferrable skills or possess a feminist/VAWG degree and be keen to learn and to train on the job
A good understanding of violence against women and girls with a particular focus on the dynamics of domestic abuse (physical, emotional, and sexual abuse, so-called ‘honour-based violence’, forced marriage, stalking and harassment) and its impact on women, children, families, and communities
Skills and experience in conducting comprehensive assessments of needs and risk for survivors experiencing domestic abuse, including carrying out short risk management and safety planning
Experience in assessing the needs and safety of any children that women using the service may have
An understanding of the criminal justice system and relevant legislation with regard to legal and civil options, housing, benefits, matrimonial and children
A good knowledge of safeguarding practice, procedures, and legislation
Other skills and experience:
Good data collection, monitoring and IT skills
A relevant qualification or training, for example in domestic abuse, criminal justice, law, social work, substance misuse or related area
Flexibility to work as part of Advance’s duty team on a rota basis which will involve completing intake assessments and providing crisis intervention support

About us:
Hospice at Home’s core service is its skilled team of Registered Nurses and Healthcare Assistants who provide exceptional care and support in people’s last year of life and at end of life, also providing additional services such as Lymphoedema, Bereavement and Family Support, Befriending, Occupational Therapy and Complementary Therapy.
We provide individualised care and support to improve quality of life and our end of life care helps facilitate a peaceful and dignified death in the home and support to those who are bereaved.
Although we receive some funding from the NHS, we need to raise over 85% of our running costs in order to ensure that this vital help is available when needed and remains free of charge to patients and their families. Our Fundraising team plays a huge part in raising these vital funds.
Our clinical service area covers a mixture of urban and rural communities, a region of approximately 1,500 square miles throughout North and East Cumbria.
