We work with people who have current or recent experience of financial hardship and partners to provide people in financial crisis with the means and agency to get back on their feet, build resilience, move forward with their lives and thrive.
As an equal opportunities employer, we are committed to equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging and the value people from different backgrounds bring to a team. If, like us, you believe everyone has the right to have enough to live on, and you are ambitious about eradicating poverty, join us and build your career with a charity dedicated to ensuring dignity and equity for all.
Our vision is that everyone in the UK has financial security so they can thrive.
Our purpose is to offer support to those of us facing financial shocks and together challenge the systems and perceptions that cause financial insecurity.
As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, the Director of People and Culture will work in a spirit of mutual accountability with fellow directors, taking strategic leadership of Turn2us’s People and Culture Directorate. You’ll have responsibility for strengthening our culture and supporting all our people managers to attract, develop and retain colleagues who are committed to our values and guiding principles.
You will take proactive leadership of our Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging (EDIB) work across the organisation so that we can become more inclusive and diverse, as well as oversee our approach to co-production, making sure that we centre the voices and insights of people with experience of financial insecurity in the design of all our work. Importantly, you will also provide rigorous oversight of our approach to safeguarding and our broader approaches to governance, risk, and compliance across the group – which includes our wholly owned care home business, Elizabeth Finn Homes.
This is a challenging but immensely rewarding role that will work across all parts of our organisation, helping to shape how we work internally and externally, and make a genuine lasting difference to people facing financial insecurities.
About You
We are looking for an authentic and inspiring leader who brings significant experience of developing and implementing people and culture strategies, and of aligning those strategies to the organisation’s vision and values. You will share our unwavering commitment to EDIB, and bring a track record of driving meaningful change within an organisation so that it can become more inclusive and diverse.
You will bring high levels of compassion, empathy and emotional intelligence, able to build trust at all levels while being comfortable with constructive debate. You will have a curious mindset, continuously seeking out new learning opportunities for yourself and our organisation, and an enthusiasm for building new networks.
While experience of working within a charity would be beneficial, we are also keen to hear from candidates who bring transferable experience from other sectors. We know that Turn2us will benefit from leaders with new perspectives and ways of thinking, so we’re actively encouraging broad interest from impactful leaders who bring transferable skills. More importantly is a clear alignment with our organisational values and a passion for supporting people facing financial hardship.
We are always eager to receive approaches from people with lived experience of financial insecurity. If you can demonstrate a clear commitment to our values and ethos, and a deep personal commitment to our vision, we’d love to hear from you.

Duchenne UK is an ambitious, dynamic and impactful charity. Following their sons’ diagnosis of Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD), Emily Reuben and Alex Johnson founded Duchenne UK in 2012.
DMD is a devastating progressive condition diagnosed in early childhood which causes all the muscles in the body to gradually weaken. There are currently only very limited treatment options for DMD, so Emily and Alex set up Duchenne UK to change this.
Since 2012, we have raised more than £27 million to end the devastating impact of DMD. We fund ground-breaking scientific research to find effective treatments. We’ve developed the infrastructure of DMD clinical trial delivery in the UK. We engage industry and regulators to accelerate access to treatments. And we’re here to support every family affected and ensure that they receive the best possible care. We aim not only to improve quality of life but stop the disease in its tracks. We’re doing it faster too, because this generation of patients can’t wait.
Alex and Emily were awarded OBEs in The King’s Birthday Honours List in 2023 in recognition of their services to charity and to people living with DMD. They, and the dedicated and effective team they have built at Duchenne UK, are now at the forefront of this work in the UK.
New opportunity to join our team

The Director of Income Generation will report to the CEO and sit on the Senior Leadership team, working closely alongside the Director of Research and Development and Director of Finance.
Working for Duchenne UK
We are a friendly, energetic, and determined team. As we are led by two parents of boys who live with DMD, our team has a very strong feeling of contribution to our mission. Over recent years, our Co-Founders have added high end skills and expertise to the team which has elevated Duchenne UK to be a high profile charity, delivering impact across not only DMD but rare disease.
We prioritise team building and wellness through an annual offsite Team Away Day and an annual offsite Wellness Day, alongside social activity throughout the year.
We operate a hybrid working week, to balance our team-based culture with a positive home-life. In the summer months of July and August, staff benefit from ‘Summer Fridays’, allowing them half days on Fridays (pro rata’d for part time staff) to enjoy the long summer weekends.

Evidence from services is then used to also inform the charity’s leading policy and influencing work, including campaigning for a fairer and kinder refugee protection system. The charity works with more than 14,000 men, women and children every year.

This role will be a critical part of the Philanthropy & Partnerships management team and represents a brilliant opportunity to support the growth and development of our major donor, trust and statutory and corporate partnerships portfolios.
Working with key stakeholders from across the organisation, the postholder will play a lead role in the development and delivery of an ambitious stewardship and events programme, offering a range of activities to engage and inspire supporters, and ensure that they are connected to, and inspired by, the work of Refugee Council.
The successful candidate will have experience in developing a special events programme to support cultivation and income generation, as well as of developing engaging and relevant donor and prospect communications. They will also have experience of leading on the conceptualisation, planning and delivery of a range of event types, from small, intimate dinners to large receptions and be adept at creating and managing a monitoring and evaluation framework to track activity and apply lessons learned to future activities. They will also be comfortable working with senior leaders within Refugee Council, as well as corporate leaders, parliamentarians and other influential people, alongside having a sound understanding of the principles and impact of exemplary stewardship and cultivation of supporters and prospects.
Refugee Council will provide the most moving and diverse case for support. Cases that encompass innovative external affairs campaigns aimed at engaging policy makers and the public.
Refugee Council knows that step change takes time and planning, and they have put together a plan for growth that is ambitious but is also realistic and allows time for development and engagement. This plan also includes recruiting prospecting, stewardship, and communications expertise, so that growth is supported, planned and achievable.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic and ambitious team recently shortlisted for Fundraising Team of the Year at the 2023 Third Sector Awards, and working with the Third Sector 2023’s Frontline Service Team of the Year, as well as contributing to the transformation of the experiences of refugees seeking protection in the UK.
