Overall purpose

The Philanthropy Manager will manage and steward a portfolio of funders and donors – across trusts and foundations, statutory sources and major donors – to secure annual and multi-year gifts in support of Breaking Barriers’ vision. As well as managing relationships with our existing donors there will be a focus on creating new relationships through proactive prospecting and developing a long-term strategic approach to stewardship and relationship development.

You will have a strong track record of high-value relationship management and fundraising, ideally specialising in Trusts, Statutory, Major Donor fundraising or a related area. We are looking for someone who can successfully secure and steward gifts of 5 figures and above – so evidence of stewarding high-value relationships and high-quality written skills are key. You will collaborate with additional fundraisers across Trusts, Statutory, Corporate and Major Gifts to coordinate approaches and maximise opportunities across all functions.

This includes recruitment activity such as Meta paid social, Performance Max, paid search, and converting supporters to donors through post action asks and emails, as well as a testing programme for new activity. Additionally, this post would be responsible for optimising welcome journeys to improve retention, Value Exchange products, inserts, Out of Home and Connected TV.

Our supporter experience programme includes cash appeals, upgrade, reactivation, a biannual supporter magazine, cash to regular giving conversion activity, e-appeals and retention activity. 

The Individual Giving programme has evolved hugely over the past few years, with a big increase in our digital activity and collaboration with campaign teams to create compelling and integrated plans.

Each Individual Giving Officer manages a selection of projects across recruitment or experience, rotating project management to support development and learning across the team.

The role is in the supportive and friendly Individual Giving (IG) team, which sits within the Income Generation directorate.

The IG team consists of eight roles:

· Head of Individual Giving  

· Individual Giving Supporter Recruitment Manager   

· Individual Giving Supporter Experience Manager

· Legacy Manager

· Individual Giving Officer x 4

The Supporter Recruitment Manager line-manages two Individual Giving Officers and works closely in alignment with the Supporter Experience Manager.

About You:

• Fundraising experience is preferred, but for a strong communicator with sales experience training will be provided

• Developing and maintaining sustainable relationships with supporters in local communities
• Implementing fundraising plans for identified St John Ambulance fundraising volunteers/groups in order to deliver the community fundraising strategy
• Managing all community fundraising supporter relationships to agreed budgets, deadlines and stewardship levels
• Analysing and proactively managing fundraising group development in order to achieve agreed targets
• Manage, recruit, induct, training/coaching, retaining and rewarding volunteers in line with the volunteer strategy

The Philanthropy Manager will secure gifts from Individuals, Trusts and Foundations in the range of £1,000-£50,000+, and will work closely with the Head of Development, Centre Director and Board to steward gifts at the £50,000+ level.
