The Head of Programmes is a critical role for the organisation, responsible for ensuring DEC funded programmes meet programmatic standards, are fully traceable, routinely monitored and comply with organisational procedures and institutional donors’ requirements. In addition, the Head of Programmes is also appointed as the Serious Incident Reporting (SIR) Officer, serving as the first point of contact for member agencies to report incidents regarding safeguarding, financial misconduct and reputational risk.
Externally, the Head of Programmes liaises with the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office Senior Response Officers, UN OCHA, Charity Commission, Emergency Appeals Alliance, Member Agencies including Humanitarian Directors and in-country colleagues.
Key responsibilities:
Communication and Collaboration
- Key point of contact with member colleagues regarding programmes finance, adaptive programming and DEC compliance, facilitating timely and accurate communication.
- Contribute to DEC functional and advisory groups, Board sub-committee meetings and Board meetings including participation in Humanitarian Directors meetings.
- As a key point of contact with FCDO SROs, develop and maintain a positive and collaborative relationship, and ensure timely delivery of all UK Aid Match MOU obligations.
- Strengthen and maintain colleagues understanding of DEC’s ways of working both internally and externally (DEC HQ members, in-country colleagues and local partners and key stakeholders).
Analysis and Reporting
- Provide oversight to the review and analysis of member charity appeal budget plans and financial reports with a focus on compliance with DEC policies and good practice guidelines to assess unusual variances and value for money considerations.
- Deliver and contribute to timely and high-quality infographics, reports and briefings for key stakeholders and institutional donors including Board of Trustees, FCDO and BBC.
- Manage & maintain investment in public transparency and demonstrate DEC’s contribution to the humanitarian sector, including reporting to IATI and UN OCHA Financial Tracking Service (FTS).
- Continuously develop, improve and manage DEC’s Knowledge Information Management systems (KIM), as user-friendly collaborating platforms that enhance learning and enable data analysis, visualisation and high-quality reporting.
- Collect, analyse and present accurate and timely data to help inform a rapid assessment of appeal Criteria 2 for both rapid onset and evolving protracted crises and contribute to the development of the Case for Appeal.
Management and Leadership
- Holistic and flexible approach to any given scenario/context, whilst ensuring a robust process is followed, recorded and documented.
- Deputise for the Director of Humanitarian Programmes and Accountabilit
- Effectively line manage and provide leadership to Grant Managers and Programme Officers, contributing to the high performance of the Programmes & Accountability team.
- Manage the Appeal Surge Roster (external consultants) including overseeing recruitment and necessary training.
- As Serious Incident Reporting Officer, manage processes and support with onward reporting to key stakeholders including FCDO and Charity Commission.
- Manage service providers as required.

Duchenne UK is an ambitious, dynamic and impactful charity. Following their sons’ diagnosis of Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD), Emily Reuben and Alex Johnson founded Duchenne UK in 2012.
DMD is a devastating progressive condition diagnosed in early childhood which causes all the muscles in the body to gradually weaken. There are currently only very limited treatment options for DMD, so Emily and Alex set up Duchenne UK to change this.
Since 2012, we have raised more than £27 million to end the devastating impact of DMD. We fund ground-breaking scientific research to find effective treatments. We’ve developed the infrastructure of DMD clinical trial delivery in the UK. We engage industry and regulators to accelerate access to treatments. And we’re here to support every family affected and ensure that they receive the best possible care. We aim not only to improve quality of life but stop the disease in its tracks. We’re doing it faster too, because this generation of patients can’t wait.
Alex and Emily were awarded OBEs in The King’s Birthday Honours List in 2023 in recognition of their services to charity and to people living with DMD. They, and the dedicated and effective team they have built at Duchenne UK, are now at the forefront of this work in the UK.

The Director of Income Generation will work collaboratively across the organisation to oversee and grow all of Duchenne UK’s income streams including fundraising, commercial engagement, and new business opportunities.

About the role
At a strategic level this role is responsible for leading on all aspects of income, including fundraising, commercial engagement, and new business opportunities, leading the development and delivery of a bold and effective income strategy to support our organisational ambitions and future sustainability.
The Director of Income Generation will inspire and develop the charity’s income team, taking overall responsibility for setting and achieving income targets for the organisation. They will ensure a collaborative and integrated approach to income generation across the organisation.
The Director of Income Generation will report to the CEO and be part of the Senior Leadership team, working closely alongside the Managing Director, Finance Director and Director of Research and Development. They will line manage a team to support the delivery of the income strategy.
Job Description
Income Generation
- Aligned to the organisational strategy, designing and delivering Duchenne UK’s income generation strategy, establishing a delivery plan to hit targets across a diverse range of income streams, including community fundraising, events, trusts and foundations, major donors, research and development grants and commercial income.
- Oversee the process and systems of managing funders and new business opportunities, including overseeing the charity’s CRM system (Salesforce) to support a high end and holistic approach to the account management of funders and stakeholders.
- Set, monitor and deliver annual income and expenditure targets.
- Attend meetings with funders and prospects, and networking events to uncover new opportunities, including management of Duchenne UK’s Development Board.
- Developing and growing the income pipeline, working closely with the Research and Development team to identify funding for existing and pipeline projects.
- Support the team to develop professional and engaging materials including fundraising proposition, applications, proposals, appeals, pitches and reports.
- Proactively seek-out and identify new trends and developments and make recommendations to Duchenne UK.
- Oversee reporting to ensure the preparation and timely submission of reports on progress on objectives, budgets and targets.
Strategy
- Provide strategic insight and vision both externally and internally as part of the Senior Leadership Team.
- Provide strategic insight and foresight to proactively identify and secure new opportunities.
- Work alongside Board members to maximise income generation opportunities, provide reports and updates where required and support the work of the Finance Committee.
- Develop and nurture an ongoing interest and deep understanding of Duchenne UK’s work so that they can confidently and passionately convey the value and impact externally.
Leadership

The Role
We are currently looking to recruit an exceptional, professional and highly motivated Deputy Chief Finance Officer to provide leadership and support to the Chief Finance Officer and wider Finance team. Each year we are entrusted with over £850 million of public money and you will play a crucial role in ensuring we achieve the maximum possible value for our patients.
In conjunction with the Chief Finance Officer, the Deputy Chief Finance Officer is responsible for providing a fully comprehensive financial management service to the organisation to develop and implement the Trust's overall financial and commercial strategies.
You will support the CFO to develop and deliver the finance strategy, which supports delivery of the overall Trust strategy. This includes ensuring that resources are effectively deployed to provide the best possible care and value for money for our patients.
The role will provide leadership to the finance function including a focus on leadership and culture, talent and skills development, and recruitment and retention.
You will also have responsibility for reporting the financial position to Committees of the Trust Board, including being a standing member of the Finance and Performance Committee deputise for the CFO at Trust Board, Council of Governor and other meetings as necessary.
About You
To succeed in this role you will:
* Be a qualified accountant with significant experience working in a large, complex organisation and ideally experience of providing expert advice on both strategic and operational matters relating to all aspects of the finance and commercial portfolio.
* Have excellent verbal and written communication skills and demonstrable experience of leading and engaging with finance and other corporate functions to develop a mature and rounded service. You will be expected to work with partners across the Dorset Integrated Care System to develop comprehensive financial plans that are fully aligned to clinical, operational and workforce plans and stand up to detailed regulatory scrutiny so prior experience in this area would be useful.
* Be financially and politically aware, bringing a high level of NHS knowledge on the delivery of good financial control and financial governance ensuring that an effective service is delivered, deputising for the CFO as appropriate.

The Schools Project Officer is a crucial business administrative role at the Diocese, as you will act as the first point of contact for projects concerning the development and maintenance of school sites and buildings, from senior leaders, governors, parish officers or our professional advisers.
Reporting to the Schools Officer and working within the Children, Young People and Education team, you will support the oversight of related grant funding and manage other bespoke projects such as promoting decarbonisation initiatives for church schools and organising land registrations. You will also advise school leaders and governors in relation to school organisation and the use or development of land and buildings.
As Schools Project Officer, you will act as facilitator between various internal and external teams, providing support through monitoring projects relating to school estates (building developments, maintenance and repairs), whilst making proactive enquiries and interventions to sustain progress against recorded timescales.
You will also take responsibility for managing grants held by the Diocese and liaising with schools regarding suitable projects and available funding, helping schools to prioritise projects for effective estate management.
A crucial part of our strategy is to assess the environmental impact of the Diocese’s church schools, planning for and supporting schools to advance decarbonisation and energy efficiency projects. As Schools Project Officer you will regularly update and signpost church schools to banks of practical materials and resources for decarbonisation campaigns, toolkits and projects, building case studies of best practice.
With an understanding of or experience in business administration, estate management or project support, you should be capable of supporting projects and have the ability to apply understanding to tasks. Capable of summarising complex information clearly, you should be able to explain the progress of projects to those with no specialist understanding.
Forward thinking, adaptable and responsive to a varied work programme, you should have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and have evidence of recent study, training or development and a willingness to learn new knowledge and technical skills.

We’re looking for a mid-weight Graphic Designer to work in-house to create artwork for marketing and communications campaigns across a wide range of media, including print, digital, animation, and video.
