Context and Background

The NSPCC’s purpose is to prevent child abuse and neglect of children across the UK and Channel Islands. We have been fighting for childhood for the last 130 years and our organisational strategy for 2021-2031 is enabling the NSPCC to achieve greater change for children and inspiring others to join us in the fight for childhood.  

Our services help children who’ve been abused, protect children at risk and find the best ways to prevent child abuse from ever happening. We work directly with children and families through our national and regional hubs across the UK and Channel Islands. We also give support to thousands of adults and young people in need through the NSPCC Helpline and Childline.  We work with schools up and down the country through our Speak Out Stay Safe programme, helping children to keep themselves safe. And our projects such as Together for Childhood help children who’ve experienced abuse, support parents, and work to transform the way communities come together to prevent child cruelty. 

Our local services support children and families throughout the UK and Channel Islands. We provide therapeutic services to help children move on from abuse, as well as supporting parents and families in caring for their children. We help professionals make the best decisions for children and young people, and support communities to help prevent abuse from happening in the first place 

Job purpose

Responsible for supporting the development and delivery of the NSPCC’s sex and relationships education service ‘Talk Relationships’, in line with our strategy, to time and in budget.

Key relationships - Internal

· Reports to Associate Head of Development for Child Sexual Abuse (this will change to the Project Development Manager for Talk Relationships in 2025)

· Colleagues in Development and Implementation Team  

· Colleagues in other teams and directorates, including Participation, Policy and Public Affairs, Childline, Communications, Direct Services – in particular the schools service, Local Campaigns, and Income Generation.

Key relationships - External

· Other third sector organisations working in child protection, safeguarding, participation and online safety.

· Schools and education organisations. Professional bodies including education, social care and law enforcement.

Main duties and responsibilities

Project delivery

· Provide day to day support to the Project Development Manager to ensure the project plan is kept up to date, all workstreams have leads and tasks are on track

· Undertake tasks on workstreams as needed, this could include creation of content, contribution to service design and leading time limited projects

· Coordinate and attend internal and external meetings with a range of stakeholders, undertake tasks as appropriate to support the project

· Be able to work to tight deadlines and on multiple workstreams at the same time

Governance

· Support the creation of regular project reports and project board papers

· Ensure that project paperwork is up to date and that actions are undertaken

Quality

· Support the piloting and testing of services and approaches along with colleagues from research and evidence team

· Provide support to colleagues from the schools service and external partners in piloting but also in rolling out the Talk Relationships programme

· Support the RASCI quality assurance process

Relationships

· Manage a range of internal and external relationships with colleagues in other directorates and subject matter experts

· Manage activities with internal and external stakeholders such as holding events, briefings, focus groups and training

Person specification

1. Knowledge relevant to NSPCC strategic objectives, specifically the education sector, relationships and sex education

This role is homebased/flexible but does require some travel within the UK..

• Lead the development and delivery of TastEd’s fundraising in line with our existing 5-year strategy (2024-2029).

• Ensure the charity is financially secure and can generate consistent income to support the charity's growth by developing a range of fundraising income streams

Key Responsibilities include:

• Fundraising Strategy Development: Collaborate with the Director to develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy for 2024-2029, encompassing trusts and foundations, individual giving, major donors, and corporate partnerships.

• Diversifying TastEd’s funding streams through some of the following: 

  • Trusts and Foundations: Lead the identification, application, and reporting processes for grant funding opportunities. Build and maintain relationships with grant funders to secure year-on-year grants and new grant funding.

  • Individual Giving: Develop and execute strategies to grow TastEd’s pool of individual supporters, including campaigns to increase one-off and regular donations. Engage with existing and potential donors through personalised communication and stewardship programs.

  • Corporate Partnerships: Work closely with the Director to identify and secure corporate partnerships that align with TastEd’s values. Develop proposals and manage relationships to gain corporate support through sponsorships, donations, and collaborative initiatives.

  • Major Donor Cultivation: Identify, cultivate, and solicit major donors. Develop tailored engagement plans to deepen relationships with high-net-worth individuals and secure significant gifts to support TastEd’s mission.

• Communication: Effectively communicate TastEd’s work and the vital need for our charity to a diverse audience, including donors, partners, stakeholders, and the wider public. You will craft compelling narratives that highlight our impact, engaging and inspiring potential supporters.

• Impact Measurement: Support the development of our impact measurement strategy, strengthening our monitoring, evaluation, and impact systems to ensure effective data collection that demonstrates our impact to funders and stakeholders.

In this role you’ll be both strategic and hands-on, solely managing the financial controls for this small charity with a £350k annual turnover.  You will support the Director and senior management team through your management of financial processes, policy and planning.

This will include using accountancy software to process income and expenditure, producing management accounts for the senior management team and Board, and ensuring the charity reports to its key funders, including Arts Council England. 

You’ll process payroll for our small team of 6 employees, taking care of liaison with HMRC as well as handling external audit and company filing.

Business Manager - Dementia Support & Partnerships
We have a fantastic opportunity to join the Dementia Support & Partnerships Directorate at Alzheimer’s Society supporting the Senior Leadership Team and its Executive Director

You will be integral in delivering and measuring the success of its ambitious plans as part of our Help and Hope strategy, ensuring that we are there for everyone affected by dementia. The successful individual will lead a team of two Officers who support the business requirements of the directorate to ensure that annual planning, objectives setting, and performance indicators are firmly established and deliver against the Society-wide strategic priorities; as well as ensuring that the directorate is regularly reviewing its performance and assurance activities relating to internal policies and external legislative and regulatory requirements.  You will be experienced in monitoring strategic plans and able to translate your findings to senior leaders in relation to risk and resource to enable problem-solving and decision-making. This role sits within Dementia Support & Partnerships which is a
complex and multi-faceted directorate of over 1100 employees and 2000 volunteers.  The directorate includes our Local and Universal Services delivery across the three nations of England, Wales, and Northern Ireland; commercial and partnerships which oversees the successful end to end management of service contracts, external training, and our service delivery partnerships; and a portfolio of enabling functions that ensure our Services practitioners and managers are provided high quality training and technical knowledge; and delivers assurance activities and legislative compliance relating to safe practice across the entire Society. 
About the role:

- Designing and delivering annual planning and objective setting for the Directorate which align with our Society strategic priorities.
- Deliver effective and efficient monitoring processes that oversee and report on directorate risks, strategic indicators and performance indicators.

This is a key fundraising role in Wales looking to secure income from external funding sources including grants, trusts and corporates against annual targets to achieve the RSPB Cymru's goals, playing a key role in building financial support for nature.

What's the role about?

The role of Senior Fundraising Officer will work within the Fundraising team in RSPB Cymru to identify, develop and deliver fundraising projects, matching these to agreed priority areas on the delivery plan to maximise income. It will lead on the development of funding plans for priority work and contribute to the implementation of agreed fundraising opportunities, leading on large funding bids across one or more income stream.

Central to the role is scoping, developing and managing funding relationships and multi stakeholder bids to optimise opportunities and ensure successful funding arrangements. It will ensure the requirements of funders are met including any reporting and compliance conditions. It will update and utilise contact databases to ensure accurate records are kept to facilitate effective contact management across the organisation. It will ensure funders and donors have an excellent supporter experience and increase their understanding and awareness of RSPB vision and work.

The successful candidate will work across teams, share best practice, represent the RSPB in line with our organisational values and strive to achieve the best outcomes for the RSPB at all times.

Essential skills, knowledge and experience:

• Experience of working in a successful fundraising role for at least 12 months
• Thorough working knowledge and application of relevant Chartered Institute of Fundraising, Fundraising Regulator and Charities Act regulations and guidelines
• Understanding of fundraising and donor/supporter motivations and how to build cases for support
• Able to articulate understanding of GDPR and data protection relating to funder/supporter information
• Understanding of how to use a fundraising database such as Salesforce.

 About The Hygiene Bank 

Hygiene poverty is not being able to afford many of the everyday hygiene and personal grooming products most of us take for granted. The reality of low income is that it restricts people’s options, leaving us caught between being able to heat our homes, pay the rent, eat, or be clean.  It is washing hair, bodies, faces and clothes in the same cheap washing up liquid used for the dishes. It is not being able to replace a toothbrush when needed or sharing a toothbrush because one each just isn't an option. It is having to choose between shaving foam and razors or the transport fare to a job interview.

Hygiene Poverty is the hidden crisis facing the UK. In May 2024, The Hygiene Bank published their second groundbreaking research into the incidence and impact of hygiene poverty. It found that over 4.2 million adults across the country are currently experiencing hygiene poverty and that it is both alarmingly widespread, increasing and disproportionately impacts the most vulnerable. It stops people from participating in society, feeds the mental health crisis and blocks routes out of poverty. It is simply unjust.

About the Role

 As one of our team of four Partnership Managers, you will have the exciting opportunity to make a huge difference in improving the lives of people living in hygiene poverty. Reporting into the Head Operations, the Partnership Managers plays a pivotal role in the charity and are responsible for overseeing and co-piloting our volunteer lead community projects.

The role is varied and requires strong time management, organisational skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills, meticulous record keeping and strong volunteer management.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the Senior Volunteer Experience Manager to actively recruit volunteers in key areas, in line with our strategic objectives.
• Onboard new projects by supporting the volunteer project coordinator with all aspects of setting up a community project.
• Foster positive relationships with the project teams to ensure engagement and inclusion and to be the first point of contact for them.
• Co-design and implement project plans for the newly formed projects identifying areas of support needed to sustainably grow the project.
• Work with the projects to identify suitable Community Partners in line with our strategy and eligibility criteria.
• Support the project with any funding applications and ensure impact data is captured.
• Ensure all projects are compliant and operating within out charitable objects, therefore reducing the overall risk the charity.

Role Description

The Project Manager is an adept and organised professional, esteemed within the nuclear policy community for their level. Responsible for overseeing a discrete package of work, they must demonstrate a clear understanding and alignment with broader programme goals, strategies, and objectives. The role will report to the Programme Manager.

Taking charge of project deliverables, the Project Manager will navigate the entire project cycle, from generating fundraising ideas to developing them further and building knowledge of funding relationships. The Project Manager should possess a solid understanding of global security and conflict resolution, coupled with a proven ability to design, and execute high-quality project management and research. The ideal candidate is an established researcher with a specialisation in nuclear weapons issues, in particular the Non-Proliferation Treaty regime, and an emerging track record of policy relevant publications. 

The Project Manager will kickstart and manage BASIC’s new project: the Nuclear Transparency Index (NUTRI). The Nuclear Transparency Index (NUTRI) will be an online index maintained by BASIC that will assess the transparency of all States that possess nuclear weapons (both those recognised by the Non-Proliferation Treaty and those that are not). Looking at nuclear transparency in its various aspects, the index, using a series of metrics, will enable ranking and comparison of changes over time. The Project Manager will need to apply creative thinking to the development of a transparency framework, and strong analytical and critical thinking skills to assess the implementation of each metric by the states under review.

The Project Manager should also possess the skills to promote their work at relevant multilateral forums, expand their network in their area of specialisation, benefiting BASIC, and be capable of line managing other team members within their project. 

This role necessitates a formal project or programme management qualification – BASIC will provide the Project Manager with such training and qualifications if they do not already possess one. The Project Manager will collaborate with their line manager to identify a professional development plan, closing skills gaps and aspiring to become an internationally respected leader in their field.

Main responsibilities: 

In collaboration with senior staff and the Rewilding Manager you will be responsible for leading and project managing the development and delivery of a plan to expand landscape scale rewilding across Britain, including:

• Providing support and advice to targeted existing larger scale rewilding initiatives. 

• Engaging with a wide range of stakeholders — including landowners and managers - in key potential rewilding landscapes and influencing them to integrate rewilding into their management plans.

• Researching the potential for rewilding — including its opportunities, cost and benefits and financial viability - in key areas and presenting this in a compelling way.

• Working with the Rewilding Manager to ensure that our annual Challenge Fund award acts to catalyse and enable the development of large-scale 'exemplar' rewilding initiatives.

• Representing Rewilding Britain to external stakeholders on various events, platforms and network groups.

• Delivering effective systems and processes for tracking, monitoring and reporting on progress.

Terms and conditions and staff benefits

This is a full-time role at 35 hours per week, but we're open to applications from those looking to work 28 hours or more per week.

The ideal candidate is an established researcher with a specialisation in nuclear weapons issues or whatever else is relevant to the project that they will be managing, and an emerging track record of policy relevant publications. 

The Project Manager will manage two BASIC projects concurrently:

1. The Peaceful Nuclear Technologies Portal (PEANUT, 2024-2025)

The PEANUT Portal will be a one-stop shop microsite featuring information about available civil nuclear science and technologies for the fulfilment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs or ‘Global Goals’). In this capacity, you will work with a subject matter expert (already appointed) to build the site and actively promote the site and peaceful nuclear technologies more generally amongst relevant States and multilateral conferences.

As Project Manager, you will oversee the successful completion of further funding for the PEANUT project for beyond March 2025.

2. ‘Scoping British Nuclear Weapons Harms’ (2024-2026). 

Scoping British Nuclear Harms is a two-year scoping inquiry into the humanitarian and environmental harms caused by the UK Government’s nuclear weapons programme since its genesis. The candidate will build on existing work by BASIC to develop a nuclear harm reduction framework, and develop national and international networks with others working on these issues to develop and promote this work.

The role requires a fundamental understanding of the UK’s nuclear weapons programme and history, and the Project Manager will have a professional background in nuclear science and/or technology. Ideally the Project Manager will also have experience with science communication. 

The Project Manager should possess the skills to expand their network in their area of specialisation, benefiting BASIC, and be capable of line managing other team members within their programme. 

This role necessitates a formal project or programme management qualification – BASIC will provide the Project Manager with such training and qualifications if they do not already possess one. The Project Manager will collaborate with their line manager to identify a professional development plan, closing skills gaps and aspiring to become an internationally respected leader in their field.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

1. Project Delivery

Applicants will need to be able to demonstrate the ability to:

• Manage project timelines, budgets, and reporting requirements

• Line manage, mentor/coach, and provide pastoral care for the project team: policy fellows, project assistants and interns

• Write high-quality, policy-relevant research reports, op-eds and briefings

• Organise international roundtables, workshops and other events with track 1 and 2 participants

• Manage relationships with stakeholders and build BASIC’s network and reputation

• Independently represent BASIC at international meetings

2. Fundraising

Applicants will need to be able to demonstrate the ability to:

• Develop a project, by independently and confidently scoping funding opportunities

• Liaise with the Programme Manager on funding priorities and opportunities

• Manage projects with minimal day-to-day manager input.

• Develop new and existing relationships with funders

• Write and edit funding applications

3. Communications

Applicants will need to be able to demonstrate the ability to:

• Collaborate with various stakeholders including international partners to build strong relationships.

• Facilitate dialogue and cooperation among diverse stakeholders.

• Promote our / their work confidently and internationally 

• Confidently use online social media platforms, and if possible, press contacts

4. Office support

Applicants will need to be able to support the running of the organisation and colleagues with a range of administrative tasks wherever required.

Role Requirements

Essential Criteria for the role

• Educated to Master’s level – or demonstrate the equivalent in work experience

• 7+ years of work experience in a think tank, research institute, NGO, foundation or government working on international security issues

• Passion and commitment to our organisational mission of promoting dialogue to advance global security

• Demonstrated ability and track record in leading the creative development and delivery of policy projects in the UK or internationally, including budgeting and reporting

• Ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders from a variety of professional and cultural backgrounds and with broad variations in seniority and function

• Excellent analytical and methodological skills, and an organised approach to research

• Well-developed interpersonal skills, including evidence of working successfully as part of a team

• Strong track record of previous fundraising experience and success

• Experience organising policy roundtables and workshops

• Willingness to travel internationally when required

• Strong organisational skills and an eye for detail

• Good personal network in their research area

• Previous line management experience

Desirable Criteria

• Science/technology or ideally science communication background
