About us
Who we are
Our Vision:
Our vision is of an Ethiopia in which every child has the opportunity to fulfil their full potential through access to education and healthcare and where families are empowered to be self-reliant.
Our Mission:
To support Ethiopian children, young adults and families to improve their livelihoods.
The Kindu Trust is a small international development NGO working in the UK and Ethiopia with a personal community-based approach to our work. We are dedicated to improving the livelihoods of children and their families in Ethiopia. We do this through our Sponsorship and Community Development programmes which target educational access and completion, healthcare provision and create opportunities for vocational training and employment.
Our sponsorship programme includes home visits, family support as called for, medical aid, educational support and our two after-school clubs with dedicated youth workers; the Kindu Klub for ages 6 upwards and the Kindu Playgroup for newborns to 6 year olds.
Our community projects take many forms and are devised based on the needs and opportunity creation for the parents of sponsored families or graduated sponsored children. These have included setting up co-operative businesses in hairdressing, injera making and a bakery. Other initiatives include our support group for mothers affected by HIV and the construction of environmentally friendly sanitation facilities in deprived areas.
