About us
Who we are
My Life Films is an award-winning charity that works to improve the lives of people living with dementia and their carers, through audience specific film and TV content provision. The charity runs My Life TV, an on-demand TV streaming service, with a variety of high quality content, selected to meet the cognitive needs of people living with dementia, whilst providing care staff with a flexible well-being and care support tool, enabling person-centred care.
In 2016, we won awards for Charity Start-up of the Year and Outstanding Dementia Care Product of the Year. Since then we have continued to grow, we have carried out trials and evaluations that validate the meaningful impact we are making for our beneficiaries, and their families and carers.
There are over 900,000 older people living with dementia in the UK, expected to rise to rise to over a million by 2025. They face two major issues:
1. low mental health and wellbeing, and social isolation, resulting from dementia
2. poor quality public health and social care, resulting from a high turnover of care workers and limited patient-carer contact time in care settings
My Life Films has made over 230 film packages for people living with dementia and their families. Each film helps a person with dementia to reminisce positively over their life on a regular basis, boosting their mood and helping them to recover from low moods quickly. The film also helps people with dementia reconnect with their friends, family and wider community by giving them personal topics of conversation and the self-esteem to socialize with people.
We expanded our service by launching My Life TV, to enable more people living with dementia to be able to access and enjoy TV, which is specially designed to meet their cognitive needs. Our programming contains relaxing, calming TV programming, feel good entertainment and activities based content to stimulate our audience, improving mental health and wellbeing and offering a tool to support families and care providers.
Our core team currently consists of an Executive Director, Head of Content, Head of Marketing, Strategic Lead and Grants Writer and we also work with consultants, freelance filmmakers and a variety of partners across London and the rest of the UK to deliver our service.
