Who we are
Being a parent has never been easy. It can be lonely, frustrating, heart breaking and over-whelming. Life-changing events can happen to anyone. That is why Home-Start is ready to support families through their toughest times across West Berkshire. For over 25 years, our volunteers have been trained to work alongside families to help them to overcome the challenges they are facing. We work with parents to build on their strengths and give them the support that they tell us they need.
Families struggling with post-natal depression, rural and social isolation, physical health problems, bereavement and many other issues receive the support of a volunteer, who will spend around two hours a week in a family’s home supporting them in the ways that make a difference. Home-Start West Berkshire is unique in its service delivery. The work we provide is individually tailored to meet the needs of the family. Starting within the family home, we have the privileged position to understand the family in a way that no other service can and we can address a range of complex issues through our home-visiting volunteers and our group work.
2022 was a fantastic year for the charity, achieving Investors in Volunteers accreditation and receiving the Queen's Award for Voluntary Service. The staff team reflect the positive culture of the organisation. Retention of staff is excellent and this has led to a highly trained and skilled workforce that understands how to meet the needs of hard to reach families.
The Management Board is vital in playing a key role in its outstanding governance. The board has 9 trustees all with essential skillsets in business management, law, HR, accounting, social care, grant funding and fundraising. Two of our board members are home-visiting volunteers and one member is a beneficiary of Home-Start West Berkshire.
