About us

Who we are

We are the largest international network of civil society organisations working together to strengthen the resilience of communities most at risk of disasters.

Member organisations connect and collaborate, benefit from capacity strengthening opportunities, implement our global projects, and get involved in research and advocacy initiatives. It’s free to join and there are no annual fees.

We’re a global network of over 1,700 civil society organisations in 129 countries. We work together to prevent hazards like floods, droughts, earthquakes and infectious diseases from becoming disasters where people lose their lives, incomes and assets.

To do this, communities must be able to secure the resources, power and capacities they need to adapt to potential hazards and reduce the risks they face.

We listen to communities that are most at risk, strengthen the capacity of civil society organisations, and advocate for risk-informed development and localisation.

Our culture and values

We put people at the centre of everything we do.

We champion people’s wellbeing and a working culture based on our core values.

These values guide our work with colleagues, and between the secretariat and members and other partner organisations.

  • Trust and openness to listen, share and learn from one another that enables us to build consensus and mutual understanding
  • Transparency and mutual accountability
  • Equity and respect for diverse identities, needs and perspectives
  • Commitment to work together in a collaborative, inclusive and participatory manner

Equality, diversity and inclusion policy

We strive to foster a sense of belonging and empowerment among our diverse staff and the communities we collaborate with. This enables us to work creatively and collaboratively, to innovate and to inspire in order to successfully deliver our work.

We aim to recruit and retain people from all backgrounds and identities without discriminating against any characteristics.

This includes ethnicity, race, gender, religion or belief, language, abilities, nationality or citizenship, socio-economic background, sexual orientation, marital or partnership status or any other status.

We have policies in place that help us shape our working culture.

Visit our website to know more about our approach to diversity, equality and inclusion.
