About us

Who we are

FPA is a campaigning organisation at the heart of the fight for warm, well-insulated homes and clean and affordable energy, under the control of people and communities. We want to see the UK’s energy system decarbonised as rapidly as possible, with a just transition for communities and workers. We believe there is plenty of money to end the cruel poverty and blatant injustices that so many people are suffering while fossil corporations amass vast profits at our expense.

Alongside pensioners groups, trades unions, disabled campaigners, tenants’ organisations and others on the frontline of fuel poverty, we’re using protest and direct action to fight for real, sustainable solutions to the cold homes crisis.

Our culture and values

Fuel Poverty Action is a member-led grassroots organisation, with a diverse membership across the UK. We also have growing local bases in Glasgow and Manchester. We use consensus decision-making and operate a flat pay structure and a worker co-management system. We are non party-political and use a range of tactics to tackle the inequities in the UK energy system, from in-person and digital mobilisations, to high level lobbying, media influencing and direct organisational support to communities who are challenging energy injustice.

Equality, diversity and inclusion policy

As an activist organisation, we are guided by our core principles, which outline the ways in which we want members, directors and staff of Fuel Poverty Action to act as we work towards ending fuel poverty and fighting for climate justice. The principles include:

  • We consciously resist all forms of discrimination and oppression. We collectively work toward anti-racism, trans-inclusivity, gender and age equality, anti-sectarianism and an understanding of different abilities and disabilities.

  • We are welcoming to all and we treat each other fairly with equal respect.

  • We hold empathy amongst ourselves and reflect it outward to others .

  • We value everyone’s different capacities, skills, experience and circumstances. We aim to even out advantages and disadvantages of time, resources, education.

  • We are honest, and communicate transparently without fear of being pulled down.

  • We assume goodwill, bring constructive suggestions in a spirit of friendship, and remain open to feedback and constructive challenge.

  • We listen deeply to each other.

  • In all our work, we strive to take into account the fact that people we work with or encounter may have disabilities, sensitivities, neurodivergence, language issues or other obstacles to participation. We are aware that many of these are invisible.

  • In meetings, every participant is free (and encouraged) to express their own feelings, beliefs, experiences and opinions. However, if we are making a strong point or expressing profound objections to another contribution, we avoid aggressive language or personal criticism.
