About us
Who we are
FARA Foundation was founded in 1991, driven by the sight of the appalling images of neglected and starving children in Romania’s state institutions in the wake of the fall of Ceaucescu in Romania. Since then, FARA has cared for over 11,000 people, transforming lives and giving hope of a better future to children, youth and families living in severe disadvantage.
Funded in the main by a chain of now 40 charity shops over London, these are run by an amazing team of people who select good quality items that suit every taste and every pocket, thanks to our supporters' generous donations.
Our Vision is of a world in which everyone can live with freedom and dignity in a loving, protective environment, experiencing fulfilled lives whatever their ability. Our Mission is to transform the lives of the most vulnerable and disadvantaged children, youth and families living in Romania’s poorest communities.
And our Values underpin all our work and are shared by all those involved in carrying out our mission both in the UK and Romania. We act with kindness and compassion. We respect the human dignity of every person. We believe in practical, hands-on care. We strive to build a just society. We responsibly collaborate across all sections of society. We strive to be a best-practice organisation.
