Who we are

Those of us with dogs know the difference they can make to our lives. But for some, they can actually make life possible. 

At Dogs for Good, we understand just how much.

Right now, millions of people in the UK are finding the world around them to be inaccessible or unsupportive of their needs. For many people, including those affected by disability, dementia, autism or mental ill health, life is increasingly difficult — and often isolating.

At a time when demand for health and social care is soaring, not everyone can get the support that’s right for them. Support that enables them to face each day with growing confidence, independence and a stronger sense of belonging. The kind of support that makes them feel more positive about themselves and their future. 

Since 1988, our groundbreaking work has shown us how dogs and the bond we share with them can lead to happier, healthier lives. All the while answering some of our biggest social challenges. 

As we evolve our understanding of each person and dog we work with, we’re able to find new ways to nurture life-changing connections between them. 

And the possibilities, we’re learning, are boundless.

These are dogs that really do open doors, build connections, and bring families and communities together. Dogs that help make everyday life possible in so many extraordinary ways. 

Whether through partnerships and interactions with our own highly trained dogs, or by helping others make the most of their relationship with a family dog, we want to unlock the potential for change these connections can bring about — for hundreds of individuals, families and communities each year.  

Our culture and values

We believe dogs and the bond that we share with them enable people to lead healthier, happier lives.

Our beliefs are based on the knowledge and understanding that we've built over more than 35 years: 

• Connections between people and dogs make for a more inclusive society, where dogs play a valuable, often life-changing role alongside people.
   
• Dogs can support people in ways other humans can’t — without judgement or agenda — helping them to feel more visible in their communities.   
   
• Understanding the needs of each person and dog in equal measure leads to a stronger, more supportive bond between them — resulting in a better life for both.
