About us

Who we are

Dignity in Dying is the leading UK movement for end-of-life choice. We campaign for an assisted dying law that is safe, fair and compassionate for terminally ill, mentally competent adults.

Things cannot go on as they are. For every year this country maintains the status quo, dozens of dying people travel to Switzerland, hundreds end their own lives and home, and thousands suffer against their wishes. This isn’t safe. This isn’t just. This isn’t right. Dying people don’t have time to wait for an assisted dying law. By working together to campaign in our communities, in the media, and with doctors, MPs and MSPs, we can make change a reality. We all deserve an assisted dying law that is safe, fair and compassionate. Together we will change the law.

Our culture and values

The values of both Dignity in Dying and Compassion in Dying are a reflection of what we consider important. Our behaviours are our values in action.

Our values include:

- Support for our shared vison and mission of greater patient choice at the end of life, including Dignity in Dying’s campaign for a change in the law to give dying, mentally competent adults the choice of an assisted death, within legal safeguards.

- To take pride in what we do.

- To act with integrity.

- To act with kindness and respect.

Our behaviours include:

- Leading by example: to lead by example through your behaviours and motivate others through your professional approach to work.

- Trust and respect others: to be aware of your impact on others and to treat others with kindness and respect. To value diversity and to listen carefully to understand the views of others.

- Proactive and supportive: to work with others to reach a common goal by sharing information and supporting colleagues.

- Strive to be the best: to work with a positive attitude and to a high standard in order to meet personal and organisational expectations.

- Responsibility and initiative: to take ownership of your work and to take responsibility for your actions and decisions. To use your initiative and to take pride in what you do.
