CRASAC

Who we are

CRASAC was established in 1981 to offer a telephone counselling service to Coventry women who had been sexually abused. Initially run by volunteers CRASAC achieved funding in 1990 and employed two full-time workers.  Over the years it has grown considerably, expanded the range of services and now employs a range of paid workers and volunteers. 

Our primary aim has always been to provide support, information and advocacy to female victims and survivors of sexual violence. Over recent years CRASAC has expanded some of its service provision to support men and boys but the provision of and importance of women only spaces has been maintained. This is because CRASAC recognises that sexual violence is both a cause and consequence of gender inequality within our society and so is a crime that disproportionately affects women and girls.

CRASAC’s services are provided from a feminist and human rights perspective and are designed to ensure the well-being, health and mental health effects of sexual violence and abuse are addressed in a safe service and victims and survivors are enabled to regain critical power and control lost through their experiences of sexual violence and abuse.

We are a member organisation of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and abide by their Ethical Framework. Our counsellors are all women from diverse backgrounds and are qualified to at least Diploma level. Our volunteers have completed an NOCN accredited training programme in the area of rape and sexual abuse which is run by CRASAC.
