Carlisle Eden Mind

Who we are

Carlisle Eden Mind is a local charity, affiliated to Mind, supporting people with mental health problems across the Carlisle and Eden Districts. We provide a range of services including information, advice and advocacy, help through crisis, supported employment and others, directly supporting over 2,500 people a year. 

We are the county’s main provider of mental health related training; delivering accredited and bespoke training to a wide variety of third sector, public and private customers, including a range of local employers on development of workplace wellbeing and management of mental health in the workplace. In the last 5 years we have trained over 5,000 individuals from across 150 different organisations.

We also lead on the county’s suicide prevention programme, a project which has already trained over 3,500 people across Cumbria. This project provides training to community members and frontline workers in suicide alertness and prevention skills, helps to raise the profile of suicide prevention with our local press and draw together people from across our public and charity sector to develop joint approaches to reducing deaths by suicide.

Carlisle Eden Mind has increasingly worked with young people and school aged children through the development of specialist advocacy services, mental health awareness training, and peer support programmes across secondary schools in the Carlisle, Eden and Barrow areas. We provide one to one support to over 1,000 young people aged 11-18 years experiencing emotional and mental distress due to situations in their home, school, or peer environment and make sure young people get appropriate access to the services and support they are entitled to.

We actively work to combat the stigma surrounding mental health issues through a range of projects and media engagement, and seek to ensure that the voice of people with mental health problems is heard in the development of local services.
