This position will lead on member communications and management, as well as the campaign management for World Obesity Day. Main responsibilities will include managing the day to day membership provision for the organisation, acting as Project Manager for World Obesity Day, leading on campaign resource development, liaising with members and chairing the Global Advisory Group.

The Campiagns and Membership Coordinator will join the Communications Team.

We are looking for an Office Manager to lead on a range of administrative and finance tasks ensuring the smooth running of The Politics Project office.

ABOUT THE POLITICS PROJECT

We support young people to use their voice by providing them with outstanding democratic education. We work with young people, teachers and politicians to help them to learn, teach and engage in politics. We are a non-partisan organisation working across the UK. We are experts in supporting young people and politicians to engage through political contact.

We also coordinate the Democracy Classroom network, a partnership between over 100 civil society organisations that supports young people to engage in elections. 

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Office Manager would work with our small team of 7 staff by providing organisational and administrative support. 

The ideal candidate will possess exceptional organisational skills, advanced proficiency in G-Suite (Docs, Sheets, Slides), general bookkeeping skills and the ability to work effectively with minimal supervision. Experience of working with a database  is a desirable skill.

The post holder will:

• Work with the Director and wider team to ensure efficient office operations.
• Implement and maintain procedures/office administrative systems.
• Manage office supplies and equipment.
• Manage databases. Check that data protection laws are being adhered to in relation to the storage of data, and review and update policies (training can be provided).
• Organise regular internal meetings and planning days.
• Provide administrative support to the Director including scheduling meetings and handling correspondence.
• Book and arrange travel for staff.
• Process invoices and staff expenses. 
• Managing office budgets.
• Order stationery and IT equipment.
• Assisting the organisation's HR functions by keeping personnel records up to date, arranging interviews and overseeing the administration process for inducting new staff.

The job is based on a 12 month fixed term contract (including a 6-month probation period), with opportunities for extension. 

The Politics Project is based in London and the post holder will be expected to work from the office at least two days a week. The role is part time, 4 days a week. Working hours will be agreed with the post holder when they start. Occasional travel to elsewhere in the UK and working unsocial hours in evenings and at weekends may be required.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

You will be a detailed oriented person, proactive, well organised and excellent at managing various tasks and projects at the same time, with excellent project management and people skills. We are a trauma informed organisation, and while you may not be trauma trained –  you will need to understand the need for a human touch within the systems and processes we hold (we will also provide training on our approach).  As part of the role, you must understand HR regulation, contract management and general operational functions. We are looking for someone who is happy working on their own initiative with energy, enthusiasm and good humour, with a can-do attitude. You must be comfortable with working with external groups of people from varied backgrounds alongside our incredible team. Our work is involved and changes quickly. So the role would suit someone who is resilient and comfortable re-prioritising when things shift quickly.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

As the Senior Operations manager, you will be responsible for supporting the Director of Ops in ensuring we have efficient systems and processes across the organisation and providing support on contracting needs for the businesses. Occasionally we are asked to help support the operational development of our clients. The role will involve:

• Operations oversight (40%)
  • To take a systematic view of all operations across the business and make sure we have the correct operational tools, systems and processes in place to support our internal needs as well as delivery of work to our clients. Lead on designing and embedding effective tools and systems to support this and ensure there are up to date process maps to support the team in using them. 
  • Regular reporting on these systems to the senior management team to support business management and strategic decisions 
  • Working closely with heads of each function to ensure we have the right processes in place that support the team in delivering their work 
  • Ensuring we have the right policies in place for effective management of the business 
  • Responsible for overseeing all contracting for clients and employees
  • Oversight and drafting of all client contracts – working with the Director of Ops to ensure contract templates are up to date and in line with any business shifts and fit for purpose.
  • Managing any contracting risks and making sure all contracts are active and not expired. Setting up and maintaining reporting systems to ensure this information is fed back to the relevant teams and senior management.
  • Addressing any questions from the team and clients on contracts 
  • Support the Head of Governance, Risk and Innovation to manage mitigations for any emerging risks, document any incidents, have effective reporting mechanisms in place, including updating the risk register
     

• HR and payroll (40%)
  • Support the HR element within the development and delivery of Hive, our Employer of Record payroll service. 
  • Lead on recruitment and induction processes for the business and clients. This includes ensuring the processes are fit for purpose and efficient for the business, having the right resources in place to support the team and clients with understanding and managing recruitment and induction, managing onboarding of all new starters.
  • Oversight of all contracting and HR obligations for our employees, including clients using the Hive service – onboarding, exit processes and everything in between 
  • Oversight of all processes in Hive to ensure smooth. operations. With Hive being new, and growing, processes and policies will need to be reviewed and adapted to Hive’s needs.
  • Setup and maintain reporting systems that allow risk management and managing end of contract responsibilities.
  • Manage all HR queries and issues for the team and clients. 
  • Oversight of monthly payroll and salary sacrifice schemes.
     
• Management and Teamwork (10%)
  • Management of the Operations team: Managing capacity and workload, objective setting and development.
  • Work with the rest of the team to ensure there is sharing of knowledge to improve systems and practice across all services, making sure the services are aligned.

Community Engagement Manager
Reporting to: Head of Community Engagement
Responsible for: One direct line report
Based: Our Head Office is based in London, but we have an agile working policy enabling people to work at another UK location up to 4 days/week. Permanent remote working in the UK is possible and we welcome applications from people based in other parts of the UK.

Role overview

The British Science Association's mission is to transform the diversity and inclusivity of science. We want more people, especially those from groups that are currently underrepresented in science, to feel that science is relevant to their lives. The BSA’s Community Engagement programmes focus on reaching people who are underrepresented in science and research.

The Community Engagement Manager will specialise in growing, diversifying, and supporting our community engagement programmes.

The role will develop, manage and deliver high quality programmes by supporting community organisers and community-researcher partnerships. This will include programmes focusing on community engagement with science and research, as well as participatory grant making.

This role would suit someone with an interest in public engagement with science and research and experience of community engagement, capacity building and partnership working.

Key responsibilities

The main responsibilities of this role are:

• Extend the BSA’s engagement with grassroot community organisations and communities underserved by science and research.
• Help to grow the BSA’s Community Engagement programmes portfolio and support the BSA’s Community Engagement Network.
• Enable and support community engagement with British Science Week, including managing the British Science Week Community Grant Scheme.
• Project manage existing and new programmes that develop and support community-researcher partnerships and/or enable community organisers to embed science engagement and research in their work.
• Provide delivery support to the Community Led Research Pilot (CLRP).
• Provide capacity building and development support to our delivery partners and participants in our grant programmes to overcome challenges they may face in delivering their projects.
• Line manage a Community Engagement Officer and provide effective management across projects and programmes.
• Deliver against agreed budgets and timelines.
• Work with the Head of Community Engagement in line with the BSA’s 10-year strategy to:
• increase opportunities for those underrepresented in science and research to engage with our programmes,
• develop new partnerships to support new and ongoing grant and capacity building programmes to create positive impacts for communities,
• increase community voice and representation in the science engagement, research and innovation sectors.

In addition, the post-holder will be expected to:

• Support the Head of Community Engagement to proactively strengthen the organisation’s profile and reputation among external partners and stakeholders.
• Work closely with the Head of Community Engagement, other managers and teams (particularly The Ideas Fund) to develop new programmes and improve existing ones and share best practice in community engagement across the organisation and with the wider sector.
• Support with writing funding bids that lead to the growth of the community engagement portfolio.
• Seek meaningful feedback from the communities that will be affected by planned activities (e.g. underserved audiences).
• Other duties as reasonably required by the line manager.

Breck Foundation 

Breck Foundation is a unique and dynamic organisation that makes a real difference. The charity was founded in 2014 in memory of Breck Bednar, a 14-year-old boy who was groomed and murdered by someone he met online. We inform, educate and campaign to help young people and the wider UK public reclaim the internet from those who seek to harm others through it. Our educational programmes reach thousands of students, parents and safeguarding professionals each year.

The Project

Over the last few years, the Breck Foundation worked closely with Volunteer Police Cadet Units in Surrey and Tower Hamlets to train cadets as ‘Breck Ambassadors’, equipping them with the training needed to talk in schools to their peers about staying safe online and the key signs of grooming.

We are proud to take this successful project further having secured funding with the Office of Sussex Police & Crime Commissioner (OSPCC) to recruit and train up to 30 ‘Youth Ambassadors’ (for online safety) in schools across Sussex. The Youth Ambassadors will learn how to tell Breck’s story and empower young people with the tools they need to stay safe online. Working closely with schools to enable the students to become Online Safety Ambassadors for their school community, advocate for their peers and to be a voice of expertise and counsel. You will work with schools and community groups to generate impact through Breck’s story (on online grooming) and other important topics related to children’s online safety.

This flagship project for the OSPCC will launch in April 2025 (Coordinator starts in January 2025) and run for at least 12 months, with potential funding up to three years. We hope it will set a precedent for others to follow our lead and develop similar programmes for young people across the UK.

Position

This role is part of a small team that forms the secretariat for two vibrant, dynamic networks of mission-driven asset owners: the Charities Responsible Investment Network (CRIN) and the Responsible Investment Network – Universities (RINU). We support members to align their investments with their social and environmental missions and values through a tailored programme of networking, advocacy and educational activities. The networks are unique spaces, enabling members to collaborate, share best practice and be leaders at the cutting edge of thinking around what it means to be a responsible investor.

You will make a significant contribution to our team by supporting the design and delivery of our annual workplan for CRIN and RINU and engaging members to participate in network activities. You will be key to ensuring the smooth running of the secretariat, including monitoring and evaluation to ensure that our work is as impactful as possible.

The secretariat sits in ShareAction’s Investor Engagement team, which engages with a range of actors to develop and drive up standards of responsible investment. You will work closely with the Senior Engagement Manager (Asset Owner Networks), who manages the work of the networks, and with the Senior Research Manager (Investors), who supports members to leverage research and analysis, and engage with their financial service providers, such as asset managers and consultants.

In this fast-paced role, on a day-to-day basis, you might be:

• Designing new projects (such as an educational workshop or advocacy initiative) for our annual workplan of activities.
• Responding to enquiries from and holding meetings with members or prospective members (foundations, trusts, operational charities, universities and colleges).
• Organising quarterly member meetings, as well as other workshops on topics such as participatory decision-making in investment, artificial intelligence and responsible investment, or divestment and the arms trade (scheduling, agenda drafting, note taking, facilitating discussions and coordinating follow-up actions).

Art Explora is looking for an experienced Community Programme Manager with a passion for arts engagement and cultural outreach to manage and build our innovative Community Programme for Art Explora in the UK. ​​
