For September 2024, we have just established a students’ union space in MDX House, the home of student life on campus. Leading a directorate of 9 full time staff, and supporting three full time student officers as well as 100s of student leaders, you will help staff and students develop communities and campaigns approaches that ensure students are shaping their education, their communities and their lives. The successful candidate will have excellent coaching and mentoring skills and be able to put them to use to develop staff and our full time officers, growing and developing their teams to reach new heights. We are seeking an operational and people focussed Chief Operating Officer (COO) to join our Executive Team. You will drive development of all financial and operational management, processes and reporting, overseeing the organisation’s day-to-day operations including the leadership of Finance, People, Governance, Fundraising, Marketing and Communications and Digital.
The successful candidate will have held broad finance and operations positions, with a track record of interacting at Board level and presenting clear financial and management information. You will have experience in implementing new and/or successful improvements to existing systems and processes, with a track record of driving organisational change. Principle Duties and Areas of Responsibility
Operational Leadership and Governance
- Overall accountability for the operations of the foundation
- Oversee and optimise internal processes and workflows to enhance efficiency and productivity
- Evaluate and improve overall performance by gathering, analysing and interpreting data and metrics
- Oversee robust risk management processes and protocols proactively identifying and mitigating potential risks
- Oversee the development of all necessary policies to ensure safe and healthy working environments
- Ensure FNF is compliant with all financial, tax, charity and legal requirements
Financial Management
- Oversee the development and monitoring of the financial strategy for the organisation, providing recommendations, information and guidance to the Trustees and Executive team to inform decision making
- Maintain and review polices and processes to ensure good financial controls are in place that meet both legal and tax requirements. This includes maintaining appropriate records and controls over restricted funds to ensure that these are used and reported appropriately
- Support the Finance Manager and Executive team in setting FNF’s annual budget, with robust analysis and justification of intended expenditure, financial forecasts, cashflow etc. securing active engagement and ownership from all internal budget holders
- Oversee the financial reports required to review progress against plans and forecasts throughout the year and ensuring these are disseminated and understood across the organisation
- Accountable for regular financial updates to Trustees including the Finance Investment Committee (FIC) and Board meetings along with the preparation of the financial aspects of the annual report and accounts
- Oversee the management and development of VAT reporting for FNF and trading subsidiary
- Oversee the financial aspect of FNF Global delivery to ensure compliance with HMRC
Systems and controls
- Lead in the development, implementation and monitoring of effective procurement systems and procedures, ensuring that FNF achieves best value and drives efficiencies through our external contracts
- Lead on the annual audit in accordance with current practice and the Charity Commissions Standard of Recommended Practice (SORP), liaising and managing the relationship with the auditors
- Oversee the operation of the payroll process and related HMRC contract ensuring that payments are made in an accurate and timely way
- Work with the Finance Committee to manage the investments for FNF, overseeing regular reviews of the investment policy and portfolio, liaising with external partners as necessary
Fundraising, Events, Marketing and Communications
- Provide leadership around income generation, making sure that this is located within the strategic framework and day to day thinking of the Foundation
- Provide leadership and direction for Marketing and Communications, ensuring that overall plans are in support of our strategic objectives
- Ensure all income generation activities from within this team are fully integrated across the Foundation, recognising the importance of inter departmental relationships
- Lead the team in the planning, communications, income generation and execution of the annual Florence Nightingale Commemoration Service and any similar high profile events.
Digital
- Provide strategic leadership in overseeing digital initiatives, guiding the development and execution of a comprehensive digital strategy
HR
- Provide expert professional judgement, advice, and guidance to the Executive and Senior Leadership teams in developing, monitoring, and implementing people strategies, policies and procedures, workforce and training that meet service needs.
- In partnership with the Head of Operations develop, communicate and implement the People and Culture Strategy.

Mencap are recruiting for a Learning Disability Caseworker (LDC) to give advice on welfare benefits, housing, health, and community care, to people with a learning disability, their families, carers, and professionals working with them. Some of this advice will be live caseload, and some will be in preventative advice packs that you have created, these will then be added to the Mencap website and distributed by you through community networks.
The Learning Disability Caseworker role can be based where you want to work from, with occasional travel to casework venues and our Peterborough office. This role will be full time (37.5 hours) on a fixed term contract until September 2027.

Safe Passage International (SPI) is recruiting an Arrivals and Social Support Worker to support to continuing and sustainable growth in our ground-breaking work to ensure that safe routes to sanctuary exist for all people seeking asylum, and that the young people and families we work with have dignity and safety on arrival.
This Arrivals and Social Support Worker will work with young people and families to support them in their reunification and arrival to the UK. This legal casework is facilitated by our UK Legal Team and covers a range of geographic regions inside and outside of Europe, including responding to emerging crises such as working to support people fleeing Afghanistan, Ukraine, Sudan and Palestine.
Reunification and resettlement is a difficult process. This role will involve conducting pre-arrival needs assessments, preparing the family for the reunification, and supporting them after they arrive in the UK. The Arrivals and Social Support Worker will also help young people and families transition into their new life, by supporting them with the practical and emotional aspects of resettling in the UK. You will work with the family and professionals and act as a bridge into longer term services and support. This role will also provide social support on a case-by-case basis for others in vulnerable situations, including family members pre-arrival, as well as to those on our Young Leaders Programme. This is a challenging and extremely rewarding role for candidates with a good understanding of the challenges young people and refugees face on arrival to the UK.
We are looking for candidates with strong social support skills, as detailed in the Person Specification. Experience in a similar role would be welcome, but this could also be your first paid position in the charity sector, or you could be returning to work after time out. Summary

Our Technical Knowledge team oversees Blue Ventures’ technical pillars (Secure Rights, Community-Based Fisheries Management, Food Security and Financial Inclusion) and supports the use of data for decision making, providing tools, training, and guidance to partners and Blue Ventures’ staff around the world. About the role
The Donor Relations Officer is a key role within the Development Office at the University of London. You will be responsible for developing and implementing a best practice programme of stewardship, donor engagement and recognition for the University of London’s donors, ensuring sustainability and growth of the donor base. This work involves creating a rewarding donor experience and managing donor communications, organising high-level donor stewardship activities and coordinating fundraising activities to support the mission and goals of the University.
Who are we looking for?
You will come experienced in delivering a successful programme of stewardship, in the charity or higher education sectors, and a working knowledge and experience of handling confidential information. We need someone with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to liaise with high profile individuals, and thus excellent communication skills in terms of written and spoken English is needed. You will have excellent relationship management skills, including the ability to work closely and collegiately with colleagues as part of a team and across a wider organisation. Experience of building and managing mutually beneficial partnerships and networks, both internally and externally, to create opportunities for the University, is also sought. As is an ability to deal effectively with staff at all levels, demonstrating discretion and tact.

The University currently operates a Hybrid Working framework involving a mix of working remotely and in the office. Typically, the majority of employees will be able to agree to work remotely for up to 60% of their working week, role dependent, however will be required to attend on specific days for training or team meetings.
