The Hepatitis C Trust has developed projects nationally whereby peers use their lived experience of injecting drug use and hepatitis C, to provide education and training to service users and staff in drug and alcohol, hostel and homeless services, increasing hepatitis C awareness, access to testing and referral to treatment, for people living with hepatitis C.
Do you have experience of working in drug services and with volunteers? Have you been affected by hepatitis C or have you supported anyone who has hepatitis C? We are looking for a passionate and skilled peer lead who has excellent communication and organisational skills. We require a good standard of education and welcome creativity and innovation in all our work.
Working under the guidance of the Peer Programme Manager, this post will continue the development of the project, recruiting and coordinating peers across identified areas within Eastern ODN. Working in partnership with hepatitis C clinical teams, drug and alcohol services and homeless service providers, the post will coordinate delivery of educational workshops, hepatitis C testing in community settings, ensure that service users are referred and supported through hepatitis C treatment and care.
This post will require extensive travel across Bedford and Luton (and the surrounding areas) and the post holder is required to hold a clean driving licence and have their own vehicle for work related travel.

The Role:
As our Supporter Engagement Manager, you will work to ensure that SPANA provides its supporters and external stakeholders with the best-possible experience of the charity. While line-managing the Supporter Engagement team, your work will range from ensuring SPANA donations and post are compliantly processed, to
co-ordinating responses to enquiries, comments and complaints via post, phone and online. You will also manage the development and delivery of SPANA’s community fundraising programme.
This role will suit a dynamic, agile individual who recognises the importance of customer care and has the ambition to build SPANA’s position as a centre of excellence in supporter engagement.
Supporter Engagement
- Ensure all donations and enquiries are acknowledged appropriately, professionally and within agreed timeframes/our service level agreement, in order to maximise supporter and stakeholder satisfaction.
- Manage the operation of SPANA’s PO Box and London mailing points, ensuring all post is compliantly processed, recorded and scanned.
- Manage the SPANA FAQs, standard enquiry responses and thank you letters to be used by the team.
- Personally handle complaints and any sensitive matters, working with the Head of Supporter Engagement and Database, and the Director of Global Fundraising, Marketing and Communications, as necessary.
- Create and maintain Supporter Engagement process documents and training guides.
- Ensure all Supporter Engagement team interactions with stakeholders are captured on Raiser’s Edge.
- Ensure all donors, supporters and stakeholders have the best-possible experience in every interaction with SPANA.
Community fundraising
- Manage the development and delivery of SPANA’s community fundraising programme, including our current products World Tea Party and Big Knit.
- Ensure the charity meets or exceeds its annual community fundraising income target, whilst managing relevant expenditure.
- Manage the development of community fundraising marketing materials, working with external suppliers and internal stakeholders as necessary.
Management
- Manage the Supporter Engagement team, motivating and developing team members to deliver on objectives and targets.
- Report regularly on the performance of the Supporter Engagement team, compiling key performance figures (e.g. complaints log).
- Manage the workflow of the Supporter Engagement team, ensuring all daily tasks are covered at all times and all team members have a manageable workload.
- Establish good working relationships with our external suppliers, data handlers and agencies, and resolve queries and complaints involving them as necessary.
It should be noted that this job specification and remit may develop over time. The postholder should be happy to adapt and take on new and different tasks within the scope of the role.
Knowledge, Training & Qualifications:
- Knowledge of supporter engagement and customer care policies, process, procedures and programmes.
- Knowledge of community fundraising and supporter events.
- Knowledge of charity fundraising regulations, GDPR and data practices.
- Knowledge of the requirements and expectations of working in the charity sector.
- Knowledge of the animal welfare charity sector (desirable).
Experience
- Experience of working in a supporter engagement role or equivalent, with a track record of developing and maintaining strong and effective relationships with donors, supporters and stakeholders.
- Experience of establishing and development processes and procedures that optimise performance
Skills and Attributes
- Ability to diffuse situations with patience and diplomacy, to be a problem solver and to show sensitivity when required – e.g. when dealing with the bereaved in relation to in-memory gifts.
- Excellent computer skills, including ability to use Microsoft Office 365 suite, including strong Excel and Word skills.
- Database skills, preferably of Raiser’s Edge.
- French speaking (desirable).

• Collaborate with colleagues across Marcomms and provide strategic recommendations to maintain an integrated approach to all social media activity.

• Support the Senior Social Media Officer to grow and maintain our national and local social media channels by planning and creating high-quality and engaging content.
• Work with the Social Media Assistant to oversee daily moderation, adhering to Sue Ryder’s safeguarding processes. This includes moderating and responding to questions and messages, gathering qualitative insights from feedback and taking part in our weekend cover rota.
• Support the Senior Social Media Officer and Social Media Assistant to ensure that our retail social media pages are optimised and posting engaging content, and that our shop Facebook pages are well-managed for the shops to promote their activities.
• Manage our ongoing reporting across organic and paid social media to help us continually evaluate our strategy, ensuring our channels are regularly optimised and using data and insight to inform decisions.
• Provide training and support to colleagues and teams across the organisation to improve their understanding of how Sue Ryder uses social media and how it can be beneficial to their own activity.
• Maintain and update our social media policies and guidance for staff and volunteers using social media on behalf of Sue Ryder or to promote our work within their own networks.
• Out-of-hours moderation cover as required and this role will participate in our weekend cover rota.
Person Specification:
• Experience of managing and reporting on a large and busy portfolio of social media accounts across multiple platforms
• Experience in planning, sourcing and editing content in a range of formats (image, video, graphics) for social media, with excellent copywriting and proof-reading skills and a keen eye for detail
• Experience of planning, implementing and optimising paid social media campaigns across a range of objectives, durations and budgets
• Knowledge of content scheduling and co-ordination tools such as Sprout Social
• Knowledge of social media monitoring and listening tools
• Experience and understanding of optimising a social media strategy, including securing buy-in from colleagues across the organisation
• Strong line management skills and the ability to influence colleagues from other directorates
• Intermediate level skills in Canva, Photoshop and Premier Pro (or other image and video editing software)
• A can-do approach, with a positive attitude and willingness to support others across the organisation
• Experience of working across a multi-disciplinary team, prioritising content for relevant channels where necessary
• Experience of monitoring social media out of office hours within a framework
