Join our successful Philanthropy fundraising team and make a real impact. We're seeking an exceptional Philanthropy Executive to join our established team. In this role you’ll engage small to medium sized trusts and major donors, connecting them to the difference they can make to thousands of men and their families facing prostate cancer.

Together with the Senior Philanthropy Executive, and Philanthropy Managers, you will liaise with colleagues across the organisation to ensure that you put together high-quality funding proposals, that will inspire supporters to make four and five figure gifts, which will significantly improve the lives of men facing prostate cancer.

About the role

As the Operations Officer you will provide dedicated support to the Start Funds' portfolio, currently comprising the global Start Fund, Start Fund Bangladesh, Start Fund Nepal and the Ukraine locally-led pooled fund. The role will contribute to ensuring that Start Funds' awards are efficiently and effectively managed, provide support to the financial management of the Start Fund programmes, implement the fund's approach to and management of risk and compliance, and assist with procurement.

In this role, you will: 

Operational and programme management:

• Support the Start Funds Operations Advisor in maintaining effective award management processes, in close coordination with SCUK as Grant Custodian to the Start Network
• Support in ensuring that Start Funds' programmes are fully compliant with grants and contracts and managed in-line with relevant SCUK and Start Network policies and practices
• In coordination with the Start Network Assurance team, provide inputs for the implementation of the Start Funds' approach to and management of risk and compliance
• Support the Start Funds Operations Advisor in the management of audits
• Administer serious incident reports (specifically those that are fraud-related) concerning Start Funds
• Play a supporting role in the financial management of the Start Fund programmes, liaising closely with budget holders, the Finance Business Partner and the Start Network finance team
• With support from the Start Funds Operations Advisor, provide operational advice to colleagues in relation to day-to-day tasks as well as when challenges arise
• Support the Start Funds Operations Advisor and relevant colleagues in managing procurement processes, ensuring that relevant policies are upheld. Support with contract management
• Support the maintenance and administration of Start Funds systems and processes
• Support the Start Funds Operations Advisor in the development of effective ways of working with colleagues in other teams (Start Programmes, SCUK and Start Network)

About you

We’re looking for an ambitious fundraiser to join our Philanthropy team, capitalising on recent growth and with the chance to really make your mark. Your role is to engage influential and high-profile individuals and Trusts in the UK, connecting them to the difference they can make to thousands of men facing prostate cancer.

Providing the highest level of stewardship, you’ll ensure existing and new supporters feel valued, inspiring them to make five and six figure gifts, which will significantly improve the lives of men facing prostate cancer and their families. You’ll also harness the support of our enthusiastic and influential Trustees, Senior Volunteers and Leadership Team, involving them in ‘making the ask’, thanking, as well as attending events.

What we want from you

You’ll have a strong team ethic, along with the enthusiasm and willingness to be flexible in achieving targets and outcomes. With experience of Major Donor and/or Trust fundraising and a proven track record of achieving five and six figure gifts, you’ll have outstanding persuasion, negotiation and communication skills, along with the ability to develop strong relationships with high-net-worth individuals, Trusts, Trustees and Directors.

You’ll be highly organised and adept at juggling multiple tasks and have the ability to balance management of existing donors while cultivating potential new supporters. You’ll be able to dive into the detail of individual engagement plans whilst keeping an eye on the big picture of the overall programme and how to achieve it so we can save more men’s lives.

JOB PURPOSE

The Children and Young People’s Mentor will work within the CYP team to deliver services relating to children and young people affected by Domestic violence and Abuse.

They will hold a caseload for direct 1-1 work with young people/ girls and deliver a programme of groups in schools to adolescent girls. Responsibilities will include recording of data, reporting and completing evaluations.

They will be expected to promote the work of the Rising Sun and take a share of responsibility in delivering or assisting with promotional work within the organisation.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Service delivery

• Work 1-1 with young people (aged 11 to 15 years) affected by Domestic violence and Abuse
• Build positive working relationships with local schools to deliver this programme
• Hold own caseload and respond in a way that understands the needs of the young people the Rising Sun supports
• Work in a mentoring capacity with children and adolescents with a specific focus on domestic abuse and its impact
• Recognise the impact of domestic abuse on young people and families; showing empathy and understanding in working with these families and developing the capacity to adopt a trauma informed approach to the work
• Support and facilitate groups in schools and in the community focusing on healthy relationships, spotting red flags etc
• Work flexibly with young people and meet with them in a variety of settings such as schools, colleges and community centres, depending on their needs
• Work creatively and flexibly to help support a vulnerable and at times challenging client group.
• Build relationships with partner agencies such as social care, early help, schools, police and health services
• Attend meetings on behalf of the Rising Sun where necessary, promote multi-agency working and build positive working relationships with external agencies at all times
• Work as part of a team, supporting colleagues and building positive working-relationships with team members
• Availability to work some evenings and weekends as required
• The ability to manage time well and prioritise tasks depending on day-to-day events

General

• At all times work professionally and to a high standard, setting an example to the wider team and external partners

PERSON SPECIFICATION 

Knowledge and Qualifications

• A relevant qualification in working with children and young people (Desirable)
• A thorough understanding of violence against women and girls with a particular focus on domestic abuse (coercive control, sexual violence, so-called ‘honour- based violence’, forced marriage and FGM)
• Experience of working with young girls and adolescent females with focus around understanding emotions, shame and gender identity (Desirable)
• Excellent understanding of the impact of domestic violence on children and young people, families and communities

About the Service

The Sexual Health project was piloted in Islington and the project has expanded and will now cover Camden, Haringey and Barnet. From late 2021, the Sexual Health project covers a further three sexual health clinics in North London and will continue to provide high-quality holistic support to survivors of sexual abuse and violence who approach the sexual health clinic. As with all Islington SASS services, the Sexual Health project is inclusive to all survivors, but this project has a specific focus on increasing the engagement for LGBTQ+ survivors.

About the Role

We are looking for a Sexual Health Independent Domestic and Sexual Violence Advocate to sit in the Islington SASS team and co-locate in a Camden Sexual Health Clinic. As a IDSVA you will provide immediate support for victim/survivors of domestic and sexual abuse attending the clinic including carrying out risk and needs assessments, safety planning and providing short-term support and onward referral. In addition, you will act as the Sexual Health lead for Solace in for Camden, providing advice and guidance to Solace staff and Sexual Health professionals.

The Sexual Health IDVAs also hold a caseload providing one-to-one support to high-risk victims/survivors at the point of crisis as well as those at standard and medium risk levels, co-ordinating multi agency support and providing practical solutions.

You will be working as part of a multidisciplinary team and collaborating with external agencies in your work.
