The Associate Director of Local Fundraising is a senior role within the Income, Innovation and Engagement directorate; a highly ambitious and professional team which is working to grow income and strengthen the organisation’s voice across the UK as the leading end of life care charity in the UK. Marie Curie has ambitious financial growth targets and needs to drive net contribution, engagement and awareness if they are to achieve their fundraising ambitions and subsequently their service growth goals.
The primary focus of the role is to maximise the net contribution from local fundraising but also to drive community awareness and engagement with Marie Curie. This is a key role for Marie Curie, responsible for managing a team of over 100 people and having responsibility for over £20 million Income, the recruitment of legacy prospects, the delivery of fundraising events and the strategic approach of supporter facing volunteers.
The Fundraising teams based in communities across the UK are responsible for raising money, driving legacy sign ups, building event participation and profit and growing awareness and engagement of the need for and impact of the charity’s work amongst supporters and people who have the potential to support Marie Curie. With all local relationships managed by this role’s teams, the post will ensure that supporters have a connected, seamless experience.
The ideal candidate will have senior leadership experience in a fundraising environment with a successful track record in increasing voluntary income or revenue. They will also have experience in developing both annual operational and three-year strategic plans, developing creative and innovative solutions and digital marketing and in working with working with volunteers and engaging local communities. This will be combined with a proven track record in managing large high-performing, geographically dispersed teams.
This is an ideal career opportunity for an individual with extensive community fundraising experience looking to either broaden their portfolio or take the next step towards a Director of Fundraising role.

About the Role
We are seeking to recruit a creative and ambitious Fundraising and Communications Officer.
As our reach and impact has increased significantly in recent years, so has our income, and this new role has been created in response to that demand. This is an exciting opportunity for a fundraiser who wants to widen, or consolidate, their knowledge and experience of fundraising, in an international context, as well as gain communications experience.
We are a very small team so the role will cover a breadth of funding streams, with a particular focus on Trusts and Foundations, High Value Donors, and Events, both special and community. It is therefore important that you have excellent writing and interpersonal skills, and solid experience of crafting successful funding applications. You will also need excellent planning and organisational skills.
The role can, to some extent, be shaped by the skills and experience of the successful candidate, but it is likely to include the following responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Steward, retain and grow the support of our existing donor portfolio: KHULA has an existing portfolio of donors including trusts, foundations, corporates, major donors, individual and regular givers, the majority of whom are based in the UK or South Africa. Alongside the Director of Fundraising and Communications, the post holder will be responsible for managing these relationships, including bespoke reporting for trusts and major donors and taking responsibility for their own portfolio of donors.
- Donor prospecting and new business: researching and generating new donor leads as well as acting on opportunities provided by our Board and others, converting prospects into supporters of our programmes.
- External communications: working alongside the Director of Fundraising and Communications, assisting in the creation of our quarterly e-newsletter and the Annual Report, managing our social media channels, in addition to other ad hoc external communications.
- Events: supporting our community and events fundraisers and assisting with the organisation of occasional special events, alongside Board members.
- Fundraising innovation: assisting in the development of creative campaigns to increase donations/recruit lapsed donors, developing products and offerings.
- Financial management and admin: maintaining our donor database and contributing to fundraising budgets and forecasts.
Person Specification
Experience of working in a smaller charity and team is beneficial as this is a very hands-on role, covering a wide range of responsibilities.

- A proven, demonstrable track record of submitting successful funding applications.
- Experience in successfully fundraising from one or more of trusts, foundations, high value donors and corporates.

- Provide inspirational leadership to the MQ Development Team, managing the current team of five to deliver our £3m 2025 budget

About you:
This role is for you, if you have fundraising experience with grants and foundations as well as corporate fundraising and/or new business acquisition experience. This means you will have experience in stewarding and securing new gifts from foundations as well as researching new opportunities to apply for funds.
You will also be skilled in understanding and translating complex information and turning it in to compelling written proposals, for grants, corporate partnerships and major donors.
You will be driven to ensure that projects are delivered to the highest possible standards and be a sophisticated communicator with the confidence to build relationships with and inspire colleagues and donors.
We do require someone who is proactive, hardworking and results-focused.
Experience of Blackbaud’s Raiser’s Edge/NXT is desirable but not essential.

About the role
Our passionate Regional Casework Coordinators are SSAFA’s front line of support for members of the armed forces community in need. They are the first point of contact for all beneficiaries into the Regional Office, assessing needs and allocating the case to one of our volunteer caseworkers.
You will sometimes handle complex problems from individuals who may be distressed, identifying the presenting and potential underlying needs to determine the best way to support the beneficiary. You will have ownership of cases from beginning to end, coordinating the casework process in a timely manner and ensure that the beneficiary journey is at the centre of the Service. You will have the opportunity to shape processes and procedures within the office which will lead to improvements in the service offered to clients.
To help you establish yourself in this new post you will receive excellent training and induction to SSAFA.
Whilst the post is homebased, to be eligible for this role you are required to live in the South East region, which includes: Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Guernsey, Hampshire, Isle of Wight, Jersey, Kent, Oxfordshire, Surrey, Sussex.

About the team

Salary: £35,000 per annum (pro-rata) + £3333 London Allowance - £38,333 per annum, pro-rata

The London IV and Advocacy Service delivers Independent Visitors, Advocacy, Appropriate Adults in Age Assessments and Return Home Interviews for children in contact with Children's Social Service.
How you can create brighter futures
In this role, you will be leading a dynamic and diverse team of employed and freelance children Advocates and Volunteer Coordinators that frontline these services. With casework/advice work managerial experience and a strong understanding of the rights of Children in Need, Looked After Children and Care Leavers - including young refugees and children with disabilities -, and the children safeguarding framework, you will be responsible for the provision of inclusive services to the highest standard, both to children and commissioning bodies.
You will be a key player in delivering continuous services' improvement and innovation, within budget, as well as developing good partnership work with all stakeholders.
In this role, you will:
- Provide a high-quality Advocacy, Independent Visitors, Appropriate Adults and Return Home Interviews services to children and young people.
- Lead a team of Advocates and Volunteer Coordinators delivering services under the relevant National Standards and Guidance.
- Give advice on best practice and the rights of children in need, looked after children and care leavers.
- Collaborate with senior staff and managers to review and evaluate service provision, ensuring continued improvements, driving innovation and business development for an assigned area of work.
- Provide support to children, young people, and families by agreeing and applying interventions, liaising with other agencies and professionals.
- Participate, chair, facilitate and lead multiagency meetings.
- Nurture, develop and promote effective relationships and communication with colleagues, community organisations, partner agencies and other external agencies.

You will bring a dynamic approach to leading the Advocacy Service's growth and development, ensuring new approaches to the work are successfully implemented and securing the compliance with the relevant legal framework and applicable standards. You will also support the Independent Visitors Service, as needed, including by supervising volunteer coordinators, and providing cover for the service.
- Significant experience of working with children, young people and families in a multi-agency environment.
- Experience delivering services and promoting service improvement and innovation.
- The proven ability to lead by example with the completion of processes and procedures.
- Advanced experience of chairing, supporting, and contributing to service planning meetings.
- Experience of development and practice of community working, including influencing involvement.
- The ability to produce clear, concise written reports.
- Ability to prioritise workload to achieve and deliver within agreed timescales and within budget.
- Demonstrable experience, knowledge and understanding of childcare legislation and safeguarding requirements.

As Global Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning Officer, you will support PEAS country level MEL teams in fulfilling their learning objectives in relation to delivering our school improvement technical assistance programme to non-PEAS partner schools. Do you have helpline or call centre experience? Are you good at communicating on the telephone? Do you enjoy helping people to find information and solutions to challenges? Are you approachable and a good communicator? We need you to join our high volume, friendly helpline team of staff and volunteers, answering calls and providing information and support to older people in Croydon.
Our helpline is a first point of contact for many older people and their families and carers as they tackle a variety of issues around finance, social engagement, housing and council tax, travel concessions such as Blue Badge and Taxi card. You will play a crucial role in answering our busy Information & Advice Helpline phone: listening carefully and sympathetically to callers, finding solutions to their queries or issues and. The role is varied and very rewarding, and no two days are the same.

- Providing information and signposting to callers to our Helpline and to people enquiring by email
- Entering new client referrals on our database and recording each new enquiry on our systems
