About us
Who we are
The Yusra Jinaan Foundation was established in 2022, in memory of our co-founders’ daughter, who was born with a rare genetic condition called Joubert’s Syndrome. Despite her complex health needs, Yusra's spirit touched all who met her before her sudden passing in March 2022.
The Foundation is a testament to her memory, aiming to benefit children like Yusra, their carers, and their communities. ‘Yusra’ means ‘ease’ in Arabic, and the Foundation’s primary mission is to bring ease to the lives of children with disabilities and their families.
We work across three streams - Child, Carer, and Community:
Child: working with partners, we benefit disabled children by facilitating access to healthcare, therapies and additional services to meet their needs.
Carer: we provide support through training, signposting and facilitating culturally appropriate activities for families of disabled children.
Community: we advocate for acceptance, improved literacy and accessibility around disability, particularly in less familiar cultural spaces.
Our culture and values
We are inspired by Yusra’s life and the values reflected in her journey.
The Foundation holds the following core values:
-
Hope: we deeply believe that children with disabilities are a blessing and that perseverance will yield results
-
Connection: we are passionate about children and their carers being able to connect meaningfully with the world around them
-
Togetherness: we are stronger and go further when we collaborate
-
Respect: we admire the resilience of children and carers in navigating their journeys
