About us
Who we are
YMCA Exeter is a Christian charity that supports over 1000 young people every year in their time of need through a wide range of youth services. We are passionate about creating exciting and positive opportunities to see young people across Devon thrive, grow and become inspired. Our vision is to see communities transformed into places characterised by love, joy, peace and hope where all young people can become everything they were created to be. Our mission is to demonstrate Christ's love through practical service that empowers young people and their communities to flourish.
TEN:10 is YMCA Exeter's 11-month Christian Internship programme. TEN:10 aims to raise future leaders within the Christian charity sector. The programme is built around a cycle of action, reflection, training and development, but at its core TEN:10 is about demonstrating the love of Christ to the vulnerable and the disadvantaged. Interns are very well supported throughout their time at YMCA Exeter from being housed in a Christian family, to being buddied up with a member of staff and ongoing regular spiritual development, supervision and coaching sessions with the intern leader. The Internship is a time to grow and develop which will leave you well equipped for whatever the future may hold.
“It wasn’t until I started filling out application forms for jobs after the internship ended that I realised quite how much I had learnt and what skills I’d picked up through TEN:10. I could answer almost every question on some of the application forms with examples of some of the things I did that year. This included becoming better at organising my time so I could juggle all the different projects I was involved in and taking responsibility in a leadership role in certain aspects of my work. I haven’t finished learning lessons from the internship and I’m sure in several years’ time I’ll look back and realise even more things that my time as a TEN:10 intern taught me.”
