WLCHC is a homelessness charity whose objective is the relief of poverty among street homeless people in the Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea and the London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham and the surrounding areas by the provision of accommodation, advice and assistance.
Each winter for the last thirteen years, ten churches of different denominations have provided the venues for our emergency winter night shelter project, working in close co-operation to ensure that our homeless guests received the best service possible.
In particular, our charity provides:
• London’s largest winter night shelter – 35 bed spaces every night between November and April
• Year-round daytime services including laundry, clothing, washing facilities from our base at Chelsea Methodist Church Pastoral Centre
• A caseworker service – offering advice, advocacy and practical support to those in need of help
Our focus is very much on the quality of service to our guests which we provide in an inclusive and non-judgmental manner. Hospitality and companionship are central to making our night shelter project a welcoming and restful place and this emphasis on making people feel welcome enables us to build a high level of trust with our guests.
We meet the basic needs of all who want to access our service, and make no judgements on an individual. These core values are responsible for the continued success of our service and which provide the stability, direction and support our guests need to move away from the streets.
