About us
Who we are
The challenges facing disabled children, young people, and their families are many. Without support and understanding, it can be difficult to lead ordinary lives.
Our vision is to help create a world where families with children and young people who have physical disabilities, learning disabilities and ongoing health conditions receive all of the support they need.
We want them to feel valued and included in their community – and in our community – so they can achieve the best outcomes for their children.
Unique Ways Mission
At Unique Ways, our overarching mission is to support the families of disabled children and young people, empowering them to build their resilience and ensure their voices are heard.
We're a parent carer-led charity, working to create change so that all children and young people can learn, make friends, and be part of ordinary school and community life.
Unique Ways is a local Calderdale charity (based in Halifax) that helps families with disabled children or children who have additional needs. Our support is delivered through directly working with Parent Carers (our members).
We are a membership-based charity; however, membership is free, and usually starts with a 1-1 meeting or ‘triage’ with one of our team so we can get to know what type of support families initially need.
We currently have over 2,000 members and we attract new members at a rate of 40 - 50 new members per month.
We have a staff team of six colleagues, half of the team are Parent Carers themselves.
