About us
Who we are
The Tourism Society is the professional membership body for people working in the tourism and travel industry, whether directly or indirectly, in the UK and overseas. Existing membership numbers over 1100 and is drawn from tour operators, hotel chains, PR, marketing and representation companies, tourist attractions, national, regional and local tourist boards, restaurants, trade media, charities, consultants, academics, students and educational establishments, among others.
Since 1977 we have been providing tourism professionals with a forum to debate and exchange views, expertise and opinion through meetings, conferences and our journal.
Within the Tourism Society there are two professional sections:
The Tourism Consultants Network (TCN) is the largest association of consultant tourism experts in the UK, with some 120 members. Collectively they provide expertise in most areas of the UK’s thriving and highly diversified tourism sector, and take their skills to developing markets all over the world. Members are listed on the TCN website where they can increase their exposure to companies and organisations looking for high quality expertise in specific areas of tourism work.
The Tourism Management Institute (TMI) has over 250 members working in destination management/marketing organisations, local authorities, national and regional tourist boards, consultancy, local economic partnerships, national parks, conference bureau, area tourism partnerships and higher education institutes. TMI delivers professional development via its national events programme, including the Annual Convention and Hot Topic, represents the interests of destination management on national bodies and responds to consultations by government, VisitEngland and VisitBritain, among others.
With over 8000 followers of @tourismsociety on Twitter and over 7000 members of the Tourism Society group on Linkedin, the Society has a very active social media profile which helps it achieve its aim of educating and informing members about developments in all areas of the visitor economy and enabling its extensive network of professionals to exchange information, experience and expertise.
