About us
Who we are
Who we are
Our mission is to collect unwanted tools, refurbish them, sort them into trade kits and send them to the developing worldl for livelihood creation.
We are a growing charity and have doubled in size in last two years due to a major expansion into the Midlands. We now have two large Refurbishment Centres in Ipswich and Rugby, supported by a fleet of five vans, 8 staff and over 500 volunteers. We work in six African countries and are increasing year on year those we support.
Why we do it
We want to support local people supporting their own communities through livelihood creating projects. We believe there is dignity through work and the ability to provide for yourself and your family. We believe entire communities can be transformed through training and the provision of tool kits and equipment.
Our motivation
We believe that God's heart reaches out to the poor and that He calls us to follow His example.
“You have been a refuge for the poor, a refuge for the needy in their distress, a shelter from the storm and a shade from the heat.”
Isaiah 25:4 (NIV)
Our motivation is to be a refuge for the poor, a safe place to find support, hope and dignity through the provision of tools and equipment.
This is what motivates us, but everyone is here because they love working and volunteering with TWAM. We recognise it takes more than just a good cause to keep volunteers, so we try to be an open, accepting and caring family. We embrace everyone and give purpose and value to people across the UK looking for meaning after retirement, dignity through unemployment and just the friendship and concern they cannot find anywhere else.
Our work is environmentally responsible saving hundreds of tonnes of tools from landfill every year. By sending refurbished tools to Africa we help create thousands of jobs. Through income generation children can go to school, families can eat and have a secure roof over their heads and communities can be transformed. We believe Africans know the best ways to break themselves and their communities out of poverty and work with them to do so.
We don't offer financial support as we believe skills training and tools can provide a lifetime of financial security. TWAM is a great place to work and volunteer and a great cause to support.
