About us
Who we are
The focus of Toc H since it was founded over 100 years ago has been on spotting needs in the local community and finding ways to meet them. It is a charity incorporated by Royal Charter and was established as such on 6 December 1922 and amended in Council on 16th July 2002. It is registered with the Charity Commission of England and Wales Charity (No 211042) and the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator (No SCO045491).
Our mission statement remains much the same as it has always been to build the common good in local communities through mutually supportive friendship, neighbourly service and reconciliation and a commitment to social justice and a sustainable environment.
- We have put in place a three-year plan where we aim to build ten neighbourhood hubs based on a social enterprise model around which we will build transformative activity in the areas where we work. Initially we aim to work on the chronic loneliness which has come to characterise the experience of many exacerbated by the Covid pandemic and also to work on supporting young people with mental health problems.
- The social enterprise model will have as its foundation a retail offering. This is likely to be a traditional second-hand clothing offer, a small cafe/coffee shop and a meeting space to support those groups mentioned earlier.
