About us

Who we are

Vision

An inclusive and equitable society for blind and partially sighted people.

Mission

To support blind and partially sighted people to bring about equity and inclusion in society and in their own lives.

Key Life Chances

Our core activities continue their focus on major life touch points for blind and partially sighted (BPS) people (which are the same as for the general population), namely a good standard of educational attainment, positive employment opportunities, and keeping fit and healthy throughout life with timely health interventions when needed.

This strategy also aims to deliver services and support which will accompany BPS people through all the stages of education and into employment or volunteering as well as their progress into more senior roles and positions of leadership within society.

Additionally, we continue to work with BPS people to apply pressure for broad systemic changes that benefit everyone, through advocacy and campaigning, research, grant funding and partnerships, and targeting priority issues to remove barriers that make a difference at a local, regional and national level.

Our work is built on the views and aspirations of the community we serve and we actively harness the voice and lived experience of BPS people in all that we do. Our belief in and commitment to the value of lived experience in all aspects of our work gives us authenticity as an organisation and places us as a leader by example and a dynamic and influential agent for positive change.

Following discussions with stakeholders – our trustees, staff, volunteers, partners and BPS people outside of the organisation, we have established four key long-term aims.

Our aims are:

·       To attain better education and transition outcomes for young BPS people and students.

·       To reduce unemployment amongst BPS people of working age and to increase numbers of employers making their workplace accessible.

·       To have full access to all health services for BPS people and remove barriers limiting the overall health, fitness and wellbeing of BPS people.

·       To advocate and campaign for more inclusive, accessible and equitable communities and society at large.

Our strategic objectives

1.    Influence, raise awareness and change attitudes

2.    Deliver specialist services that meet our priority areas of need

3.    Work in partnership with others who share our aims

4.    Lead by example and use our resources well
