About us
Who we are
The Wycombe Environment Centre has received funding to set up a project ‘Refresh!’, a scrap store. In March this year we moved into a shop in the Chiltern Centre, and opened to customers at the start of June. At the moment we are open just one day a week, on a Saturday, staffed by volunteers. We want to open 2-3 days a week shortly.
We recruited our first part time employee in the summer to run the shop, and set up all the back office systems for our members, suppliers, other customers and our important volunteers. We are now seeking a Development Manager to deliver our vision of developing Refresh! into an upcycling centre social enterprise and hub for environmental activities in southern Buckinghamshire, with the scrap store at its core.
We are looking for a team player who can help shape ideas, and, importantly, put those ideas into action, through fundraising, establishing partnerships, communications, and working alongside trustees, your colleague and the volunteers.
The Refresh! start up is funded by Buckinghamshire Council Community Boards, The Clare Foundation & Veolia. The wider vision will need additional project funding.
The Wycombe Environment Centre Ltd was founded by Dr Frances Alexander in 2001. Our first centre was in the Rye on Holywell Mead and there have been 2 other centres since then. Our new venture took over the Council's scrap store this March and our refreshed, dynamic board of trustees has fundraised successfully to support two part-time employees to run the centre with volunteers. Our trustees meet once or twice a month on Zoom - our meets are hilarious as well as effective!
