About us
Who we are
The Together Project creates joyful experiences that unite young and older people through arts and creativity. We reduce loneliness, widen children’s understanding of society and help integrate local communities.
THE BACKGROUND
Age segregation is a huge problem for the UK, and it’s been getting worse for 25 years. Many older people are isolated and institutionalised and younger people are deprived of the experience and wisdom they can offer. Loneliness is now one of the biggest threats to the physical and mental health of all generations.
The Together Project aims to tackle this by creating a nationwide program of intergenerational activities that bring joy to people’s lives. It’s something we’re incredibly passionate about and believe could make a significant impact to people’s mental and spiritual wellbeing across the country.
Our first format is Songs & Smiles, a weekly singing and social group for babies/toddlers, their grown-ups and elderly people, held in residential care homes. It’s been running since July 2017 in Walthamstow, east London, and, we’re really proud to say, has brought happiness to lots of people, young and old.
Now we’re in the process of taking Songs & Smiles across Waltham Forest, London and then the rest of the UK throughout 2018.
