The Personal Support Unit

Who we are

The Personal Support Unit (PSU) helps litigants in person, their friends and families, witnesses, victims and inexperienced court users.

We provide trained volunteers who give free, independent assistance to people facing proceedings without legal representation in civil and family courts and tribunals. Our service is offered equally to everyone who asks and it is confidential, impartial and open to all.

Our service adapts to the needs of each individual. Our volunteers work with clients to establish for themselves what might be the next best step to pursue their case, and help them to access legal advice from other organisations where appropriate.

Our vision is that every person in England and Wales attending a court or tribunal alone should have access to a PSU volunteer.
