About us

Who we are

The People's Comedy was founded in 2018 to platform comedians with a message — counter-cultural, alternative, and original voices — while ensuring they are fairly paid for their craft.

We are proud to have achieved:

  • Best Pro Comedy Night and Best Live Comedy Format for Wales & the West (Chortle, 2025)

  • Best Comedy Format in Britain for Midlands and the West (Chortle, 2024)

  • Best Themed Comedy Night in Britain outside London (Chortle, 2023)

Our ethos is simple:
✔ Equal pay for all comedians, raising tens of thousands of pounds for grassroots performers
✔ No headliners — everyone receives equal stage time, promoting a collective spirit over ego
✔ Loved and respected by audiences — with 90% saying we are affordably priced

We are a movement as much as a comedy night, and we are proud to be challenging traditional models, supporting emerging talent, and creating a space where comedy can be bold, impactful, and fair.

Our culture and values

About Us

Our objective

To be a self-sustaining comedy network that provides an alternative to the traditional comedy circuit and platforms grassroots, underrepresented artists. A night that's rooted in collectivism rather than competitive individualism, and provides a positive vehicle for change.

Our beliefs

Collectivism:
Opposing competitive individualism by favouring egalitarian structures and fostering mutual support

Social Action:
Creating awareness of social issues, building meaningful solidarity and instigating change to tackle injustice

Intersectionality:
Acknowledging how other forms of oppression overlap with and exacerbate accessibility in the arts and work

Equality, diversity and inclusion policy

At The People’s Comedy, we are committed to fostering a culture of equality, diversity, and inclusion.
We believe that comedy — and the spaces where it is performed — should be welcoming, accessible, and representative of all.

We are committed to:

  • Providing equal opportunities for all, regardless of race, gender, sexuality, disability, age, religion, or background.

  • Actively seeking to platform underrepresented voices in comedy and the arts.

  • Creating an inclusive environment where everyone — performers, audiences, and team members — feels valued, respected, and able to contribute fully.

  • Continuously reviewing and improving our practices to remove barriers and promote fairness across everything we do.

We recognise that true inclusion is an ongoing process, and we are dedicated to learning, growing, and making positive change within our industry and community.
